Sounds like a combo of video game music and 70's porn soundtrack.

It's Jimi Hendrix lol. The nWo theme is a compellation and mashup of different riffs from Jimi Hendrix including Highway Chile, Stone Free, and Stars That Play With Laughing Sams Dice.

He also did a version of We Three Kings for the movie "Scrooged" and Bill Murray walks past him on the sidewalk in one scene.

The Letterman Show. Davis along with David Sanborn and Marcus Miller. A real gem

this is footage from Zeppelin's show at the Silverdome.  Recently remastered footage from an 8MM camera and synced up with audio. It's all over the place in terms of songs but still amazing to watch.  So little quality live footage and sound of this band exists.

I saw them earlier in the 70's but it wasn't in Pontiac. Had to have been Cobo I guess. The only thing I can still picture from that show was the absolutely huge gong on the stage.

That was probably the best time to see them, before the hard drugs took over.  The Knebworth show in either 79 or 80 was their curtain call and a peak where they could have gone if Bonham didn’t die.  That’s out there to watch.

Drew (of Mike and Drew) was just complaining about seeing them on this tour as they only made it three songs in before stopping the show because Page was so drunk.  Song 3 was No Quarter, which only infuriated him more.

Page's drug of choice was generally heroin.

IDK, I expected to be somewhat disappointed because Page was a studio specialist/perfectionist and not a particularly inspiring improvisationalist (even assuming he was sober - as noted!). They couldn't perform a lot of their signature work very close to their recordings -especially given the tech available at the time. Bonham always got an extended drum solo in a live set but that only gets you so far. 🤣

I once heard Pat Metheny talking about how much work (and cost) it was to produce a live performance that could capture the quality of the studio work that PMG did. Takes a lot of skill and planning and extra musicians.

Stevie Ray Vaughn would have been the guitar player to have seen live, but I never did.

Rush never recorded a song that they couldn't play live as it sounded.  I appreciate that as a fan.  But I also appreciate bands, like the Allmans, who would go off whereever they felt like going during a song.

SRV was here a few weeks before he died... oh to have been there. His death really got to me.  I was 17 and was probably the first celebrity/musician that I really liked to have died.  Just numbing.  He had turned his life around and damn, he was only 35.  He is credited for making guitar cool again and reintroducing blues based rock after what we went through in the 80's.  Yes we had EVH but that wasn't blues based.    Vaughan's success specifically led to the Allmans deciding they could keep doing it and he inspired a generation that it was cool again to do that.

Besides Jason's album Weathervanes, Gabe Lee had my favorite album of 2023 with Drink the River. Superior songwriting from Gabe Lee compared to almost anything out there in music in general, but certainly compared to the booty-pop and bro-country that's out there in mainstream country.

My favorite songs from Gabe Lee's Drink the River album are the title track Drink the River, Lidocaine, Even Jesus Got the Blues, and my personal favorite, The Wild.

There will always be solo and small group musicians that just record what they play. But I don't begrudge modern musicians the use of the studio either. It's the modern equivalent of the 100 piece orchestra a Beethoven had or even the 30-40 that a Glenn Miller or Tommy Dorsey had that is just too expensive to have or tour with in today's economics. It just means some music stands on it's own as recorded first rather than as the recording of something that was first live performance.

Yet another good selection by you, Tater. I've already listened to the entire album twice this morning. Thanks.

You have a great taste in music and I always enjoy myself being exposed to new, quality music that is outside the mainstream. Another artist you should check out is Amanda Fields and her 2023 album What, When, and Without. Her new single Dying Leaves is also really good stuff.

The entire album isn't out yet but there is another song I almost shared called hammer and nail.  The lyrics are only well known phrases which I enjoyed, but could see some thinking it was tacky/countryish.  Excited for the full album though

Charlie Starr is one of the reasons I got rid of my Strat and bought a Jr.
