The pet peeve thread

Recommended Posts

I dropped WOW cable because they suck.

Send us the equipment back they said,  we'll send you a box

I put it in the box,  had UPS pick it up.

They confirmed they received it - back in October

Then yesterday they charged me for the missing equipment.   $250.

"No evidence it was received"    I have the routing number.   "No evidence it was received"

It's like a penalty I had to pay for dropping them.

When my mom quit WOW I dropped the equipment off in Madison Heights.  There was nobody there.  You were supposed to drop it in a chute.   I wanted a receipt, but there was no way to do that since there were no humans there.  They sent my mom a bill, I told her to never ever pay it.  I took pictures of myself dropping off the equipment so I can prove it.   With me, it was Auto Pay, so they just stole it out of my account.   Not a soul I can talk to about it, just an automated message that there was no evidence it was received.  I probably sent it to some black hole somewhere.  Can't get through to anyone that handles it.

The equipment was 4 years old, they were never going to use it again other than the power cord.

See, this is why I dropped them,  because they are shady as hell.

Do not go with WOW.    EVER.

That is rotten. Customer support has become a joke. You see it across the board.

They were the worst. I was lucky I only had to drive to Taylor. But not the part with stores and such.  The industrial portion at like like Northline and Inkster or whatever. It was dark and nobody around. Like a mailbox.

I went there before Madison Heights and since there was nobody there to give me a receipt, I went to Madison Heights and it was the same thing.  I sent them pictures of me dropping off the equipment in their drop box and they still keep sending my mom bills.    Scam.

I've been inundated the last couple of days with calls from "mortgage" companies trying to get me to refinance or take out a second loan. I usually don't answer these calls but occasionally one sneaks thru on a familiar area code. I try to be obnoxious as possible but some of these guys are relentless.

The SO just got an all day run around from Amazon customer service on an error on a book order. The normal routine of web pages that just went in circles and chat bots that just disappeared mid-contact.

Ironically enough, the last few times I dealt with ATT, which used to be totally terrible, they actually tried pretty hard. Their service people don't know what they are doing half the time, but were at least trying. 🙄

Just an addendum to the above, I actually got into an extended argument with my former pulmonary doctor. It was over a prescription. The drug was only available tru "speciality pharmacies"

He asked how I was handling the drug.

"I've never heard from anyone"

"Do you answer your phone for unknown callers?"

"Not usually"

"You should always answer your phone"...and proceeded to rant never explaining about hipaa laws an such when it came to speciality pharmacies" He had already given me a referral to another specialist and ended the conversation with, "I'm sure you'll be happy with Dr XXX"

My wife and I walked out of the office..."I think we just got fired"

Turns out his assistant never sent the request to the pharmacy or to the referring doctor

I know @oblong has brought up food safety and pot lucks in this thread before.

https://amazingribs.com/more-technique-and-science/safety-and-health/food-knife-and-grill-safety/

I recently bought this guy's book, and this was a pretty good summary of food safety.

But the pet peeve: going to a party and the person grilling has their burgers or chicken sitting out for an hour or two before. I don't mind playing my diet card there, and sitting out.

That's interesting.  I've found it much easier to cancel autopays than the other way - especially with cable.

With a large polish family the month of December has been full of this.  I only ate what we brought or made. Spent last Wednesday making 200 pierogi with my wife, aunt, mother in law, and cousin who wanted to learn. I was a hawk on hand washing to the point of being scolded. I don’t care.  There’s a train of thought that since someone “never got sick” that it will never happen.

What has changed that the consumer doesn't see is how meat is processed before you get it. I know where those train of thoughts come from because I'm old enough to remember when supermarkets actually butchered their own sides of beef, everything you bought in the store had been cut there and probably within the last few hrs. Under those circumstances things like whole cuts of beef were safe to the point of not worrying about it. Today almost everything is cut and packaged in a processing plant who knows where; contamination can get spread across huge volumes of product by bad washdown procedures or a sloppy employee. You don't even want to talk about the way chicken is processed in the US. So basically there is no such thing as too careful anymore unless you have a now rare corner butcher shop.

I wouldn't say any. Cook temp kills the bacteria, but not the toxins they create.

Well, that is a little complicated - it varies. Salmonella (biggest threat with Chicken) and their toxin is destroyed by cooking, Staph Aureus toxin (also common) is not.

True, but salmonella also spreads like a mofo from contact, so handling plays a huge role there.

The new Burger King song, that one that repurposes "Have It Your Way" with the guy caterwauling in an intentionally off-key manner. The moment I hear the atonal two-note bass guitar opening, I can't reach for the mute fast enough.

Off topic but related, Aerosmith snuck those lyrics into one of their songs and there are a lot of people didn't recognize it. Granted it is one of their less popular albums so there ya go.
