  1. It is good to know he won’t flip into the end zone against the Lions, but will simply walk in just like everyone else.

  2. At the risk of some russians or something stealing my identity, i will reveal that, if you guessed I was 38 as the midpoint of your range, you would be off by 20%. i was too old to attribute liking the tiger busting through the D to being a dumb kid. maybe just a guy with bad taste

  5. I grew up listening to WJR. That and TSN were my only connection to the Tigers. I couldn't get day games, but the Reception was pretty good on clear nights. At times I had to hold the radio a certain way in order to get the games. Other times I had to figure out what was going on through the static. I got to be pretty good at following the game for an inning or two just hearing the intonation of Harwell's voice, the crowd sounds and the timing of commercials through the static.

  6. Tony Martin was already injured in that tremendously bad crash at the beginning of stage one of the Tour de France this year and then he was injured so badly in Stage 11 he withdrew from the Tour. He said that he thought cycling was getting too dangerous and there was not enough attention to safety and that is why he was retiring. These damn millennials have put the Elks Club out of business, injured all sorts of profitable enterprises their parents used to patronize, and now they’re ruining Cycling. They’re even putting pot dealers out of business through legalization.

  8. Same for me, 1962, but just to prove that there is a God, the AM station in Niagara Falls, Ontario picked up the WJR baseball broadcast in 1962 and 1963. So, for my first two years it was Ernie and Paul loud and clear every night, and I drew up a scoresheet and sat at the kitchen table. After 1963 I had to take the kitchen radio out into the back yard and find a spot with faint reception and minimal static.

  9. If we have a winning record with only 1.2 WAR from our tanking picks (Mize alone), that would make this the most special and surprising season since 2006. It would be great, and a huge STFU to those who supported losing for tanking picks over the years.

  11. Whenever I see players from that era with their perfect crew cuts and flat tops. I think, how many of these guys were card-carrying commies under deep cover? I wonder if Harry Chiti had a secret map embedded in the filing of his tooth of the hydroelectric dam he was supposed to demo in the event of war.

  15. Even if they lose their last 10 games (which they won't) this season has to be considered a success for them and I would say unexpected. Most fans lost faith in April and expected another 50 win season. They turned it around to win and sweep a lot of series from top teams. It leaves us with a lot of hope for next year if they can sort out their labor agreement. For the fans they need to get that done quickly.

  17. Get Kim from San Diego. Signing bonus paid and yearly not too bad. He should improve next year as well and San Diego wants to clear salary to go shopping.

  18. Can't answer that at all. In fact, unless he does something absolutely inexplicable I can't even start to call that until his 3rd season. That's how bad the previous regime was, they put this new regime in a 2 year hole before they even walked in the building. What made things even worse was how arrogant Quinn and Patricia were.

  19. Can't remember what podcast I was listening to, but they had a Doc on who didn't expect anything huge this year as he expects a lot of mask usage still this winter. He expects one more Covid surge in the North east / Midwest. As such, he doesn't think the flu will be that bad this year, but expects a really bad flu season next year. Negative test for my daughter! About 6 more weeks before we can get her vaccinated, assuming it's not approved sooner.

  20. Kreidler doesn't have the pedigree or projection to force the Tigers to make decisions around him. He won't even be a consideration in their free agent and trade decisions this off-season. If he continues to unexpectedly develop as a viable big league regular throughout next year, then you figure out where to play him at that point. That said, I'm not worried they are going to have that problem on their hands.

  21. I'm gonna take a swing at your age here: you are between 36 and 40 years of age. If I had to settle on one number, I would guess 38. How close am I?

  23. The other possibility is a trade for near ready SS that is blocked or just hasn't been called up in some other org - a player in the position that Austin Jackson was in when we traded for him - a guy with no resume but not much downside risk of not performing. The thing is the trade chip would likely have been a pitcher and with Turnbull and now possibly Boyd down long term, they are not in nearly as strong a position to trade pitching as they were when the season started.

  24. I haven't seen him play personally, but the reports from those who have day that he's a natural SS and should stick there in spite of his size. I don't know if he's the answer at SS, but I think it'd be a mistake to not increase the team's talent via FA, with or without Kreidler. In the unlikely event that we end up with 2 good SSs, I'm sure we'd be able to figure it out.
