  1. In order to bottom out for 5 years you need to have been just abysmal at identifying and developing talent for the previous 10 years.

  4. You wonder why you get condessending remarks when you post brainless shit like this. I hate to tell you this pal but theres very little difference between democrats and communists. You and your pals make comments like you think you're the smartest guy in the room. I can confirm you are the smartest guy in the room...but only when its empty.

  7. Lynn apparently decided his hit rate was falling off too precipitously. Classic click-bait if there ever was. There is less than nothing of substance here. And FYI Lynn, what counts against big-league pitching is...RESULTS.

  8. Aside from the #1 picks are the Tigers deep? Organizations sustain success by development. Being handed can’t miss talent by virtue of losing is not necessarily development.

  10. Why do they have a huge advantage over the Tigers? The Cardinals are not in a big market. They consistently get good attendance because they have been a smart franchise for a long time. The Giants are in a bigger market area, but they share that with the Athletics. The Tigers are not the Yankees, but they aren't the Marlins either.

  16. Bunker, as usual, has got it all backwards. The treaty with Iran wasn't intended to allow them to develop a nuclear weapon. The Treaty was intended to prevent them from developing a nuclear weapon, because inspections. It's not having a treaty with Iran, which eliminates inspections, that will allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon. Fact is, right wing hacks, Putin fanboys, and other Republicans need the specter of nuclear Iran as a cudgel to clobber Democrats with during election cycles. Without that—that is, with a treaty in place—they have nothing of substance on Iran and can't effectively attack Democrats on this issue.

  18. They were a nothing team for five years. For those five years they were a failure. Those five years are part of their history and they were a loser team for five years. I am willing to put that in the rear view mirror and look forward, but it's not a strategy I want to see again in the future.

  19. HIGHLY recommend Bosse Field in Evansville, Indiana. Triplets use to play there, A League of Their Own was filmed there and it is the third oldest park (1915) behind Fenway and Wrigley.

  21. I used to play the drinking game where I pretended to be a fancy philosopher of history. I'd ask, is history linear or circular? Whiggish thinking people of the Candide variety assume that everything is heading in the right direction. Always on an upward trajectory to the upper right corner of the chart of goodness. I'm not that. I think history is a a sine wave. That sine wave is caused by evil men with evil lusts for power and glory. Its also caused by the weakness of the common man who fears the wolves at the door and refuses to take adequate precautions against the wolves by banding together in communal security. Anywho. NATO is a force for good. Fuck anyone who thinks otherwise. Ukraine would be in a heck of a lot better shape today than a month ago if it was in NATO.

  23. We as fans should support and cheer these young men, they are great talents, and I think (and hope) that they will be healthy and live up to the billing. But let's remember that it took a ****hell of a lot of super-awful baseball**** to get them on this team. We are **hoping** that these youngsters (and the other tank-pick Mize) help this team achieve a level of success in the immediate and intermediate future that the team could have enjoyed throughout the last few years through the proper/competent acquisition and development of drafted talent without tanking, as well as trades and free agency. Going forward, if Chris I never wants a high payroll structure again, fine, but as a fan I reasonably want and expect him to get the payroll up to an average/normal amount for a winning team. Think of it this way: - when the owner has at least an average salary structure, the **owner** pays what he should expect to pay for a good team, and we the fans get to enjoy it. It's not our right, but it is reasonable to want this and even to expect it as fans. - when the owner decides to lose a ton of games for a number of years so he can have a shot at top/cheap/young talent for a few seasons, **WE** the fans pay the price in watching a horrible team for years so that the owner can go cheap and pocket the profit, and **maybe** we the fans get to see a decent team again in the future at some point, if Chris I eventually decides that maybe he'll think about supporting a good team with a normal payroll again (or not).

  29. Not looking good for Daz Cameron as a Detroit Tiger. Some fairly damning-with-faint-praise words from AJ after Daz was sent down: Daz “needs to see general improvement across all of his game. If you grade out where he’s at defensively, there’s a lot of attention-to-detail things that he can improve on to be an impactful player. His skills and tools are as good as anybody that we have in the outfield. Applying it consistently is a big challenge for him.” Ouch, babe.

  32. The Lions have apparently have been talking with teams about trading the #2 pick. That is probably to be expected. A trade down where they can get Hamilton or Walker would be ideal.

  33. That's why I never bought into the folks that essentially say non lottery 1st rounders are worthless. Yeah the likelihood of you finding a superstar with one of those picks is pretty damn small but you can get valuable pieces that could be a third or possibly even 2nd option on a championship caliber team.

  34. I golfed 36 holes a few times a week in 1993 and 1994. Same course. We'd get there at 7 am and do two rounds. Closest I got was an eagle. 2nd shot on a par 4 from about 100 yards out. After that I might have golfed once or twice a year until the mid 2000's. I always wanted my wife to take up the game as I thought it was something we could do together as we got older. The one time I took her to a par 3 she hit everything straight and I figured that's 80% of it, she's a natural. As it happens she took up running and dragged me into it so that's our thing.

May need to talk the wife into a ballpark tour this summer, Richmond is just up the road, there is family in Roanoke (Salem), Lynchburg is on the way, maybe add Fredericksburg to the mix.
