  1. I was being sarcastic, there is no way that Putin is orchestrating all that and there is also no way that the Ukrainians are doing much of it. It is most likely a heavy dose of sabotage, mixed with some incompetence and poor maintenance.

  4. Yes it I sat in the oven watching more sloppy baseball. First inning Erod decides not to even attempt to cover first and then Candy bobbles a sure inning ending double play pall and then throws way way wide of first so instead of inning over another two runs come in and all the LA fans are yelling "thanks so much " "free runs" etc... And of course my daughter is melting so we leave after the seventh down 6 - 0 and watching Miggy strike out three times only to have him homer in the 8th...😂 And Grossman's HBP seemed very bad. You could hear it. It seemed like they just didn't really want to play after coming close in the first and second inning. The vibe is bad. At least I can add Dodger stadium to my check list. Hard to believe I have lived out here since 1997 and never got there sooner.

  7. So I can finish this story today. The check from Westinghouse did arrive, after which I ordered the part. The part arrived today. I paid not the $320 the service firm had quoted on their work estimate, but $150 - for a factory certified new part. It took about 20 min to install the board, test function, and re-assemble the door. No more dead dishwasher! All in all, considering Westinghouse effectively paid me > $200/hr to fix their dishwasher - NOT a peeve.

  10. The more I think about, the more I don't want Lamar Jackson. He puts up RB numbers. No way that is sustainable. The Ravens are one of the best run teams in the NFL and there is a reason they are not committing to Jackson.

  13. I have to give it an A at this point and the reason is simple, the Lions arguably got the best defensive player and best non tackle offensive player in the entire draft. Getting two playmakers like that is worth an A on its own in my book. Fans and the media love to glorify trading down and picking up extra picks and while that can be nice the reality is the vast majority of the time those picks end up producing average starters AT BEST. You can find average starters in FA or even the waiver wire in some cases but what you can't find are true game changers and the Lions potentially got two of them, one on each side of the ball, and if that wasn't good enough they were both a huge position of need. To me that is worth an A regardless of how the rest of the draft turns out.

  16. Where do you play Clemens? I don’t think he’s an upgrade to either Schoop and Candy, who have replicated their early season slump from last year. I do think they’ll start to hit soon. He might be an upgrade to Cabrera at DH, but that isn’t happening. At try this point, I think Clemens is an injury replacement at 2B or 3B, or trade bait.

  19. sure - first off team winning percentages are not a constant - as a group the guys do go through collective highs and lows together so you may really have a team that for two weeks can't win 2 out of 10, plus of the quality of the opposition is not constant so you will see a lot more variance in streak probability than simple stats would predict. And finally if you have 30 teams, something with a 6% chance of happening should happen to roughly 2 of them. OTOH, I think the longest losing streak the Tigers had in 2006 or '13 was 4. Still, the things will tend to cluster around the predicted math.

  22. If you want to put any stock into some of the pre draft concerns about Thibs caring more about his "brand" than football and all the similar knocks on him then you can't jump to any conclusions if he comes out of the gates looking better than Hutch like I'm sure many people will. I for one wasn't necessarily scared of those concerns or put much stock into them but if they turn out to be legit concerns you won't find out in the first half of or even full season he plays, you'll see them more down the road after he has had some success and started to make a name for himself in the NFL. So just something to keep in mind before you blast Holmes and Co. for passing on him if he does indeed put up a better start than Hutchinson.

  24. Semi-related to this, I tried this new hack and despite the additional moving parts, it worked out really well. I typically watch the Tigers broadcast through MLB app on Apple TV so I can implement the audio overlay. I simply cannot bear it hear Shep and rotating cast of grizzled old players for even a single second if I can avoid it. The issue for me is, I also dislike the Tigers video, or more exactly, Bally RSN’s video. They take up a ton of real estate at the bottom with not only the score box, but the 24/7 crawl underneath it, which features a distressingly high percentage of non-baseball and even promotional items. TBF, this is true for a lot of Tiger opponents, too (e.g., Guardians, Twins, Royals, etc.) But now that I’ve discovered how to easily implement the Bluetooth mode on my TV’s soundbar, I’ve figured out an effective way to overlay Tiger audio over the opponent’s video when we play a team with a cleaner screen, like the Dodgers. SNLA shows only a score box in the lower right corner and a logo in the upper right, with a crawl only maybe once an hour for a couple of minutes. The rest of the screen is clear of such obstructions. What I do is, I put the Dodger’s video on the TV, call up Dan Dickerson on my MLB app on my phone, and cast the audio to the soundbar’s BT mode. From that point, it’s only a matter of pausing the one source to let the other catch up to it, and voila: Dickerson and Petry calling the game over a clean opponent’s video. It worked great last night except for the one inning where the video was delayed and not matching up to the audio, and then I had to change it back with the next inning. I assume the Dodgers TV director paused the telecast a few seconds to allow some promotional spot to finish, then made the telecast “live” again for the next inning. But yeah, once I got there, it was like a dream telecast. No more annoying constant live crawls; in fact, no more big chunk of real estate given over to junk at the bottom of the screen leading to a compressed picture above it. It was great. And bonus: there were none of the constant cutaways to the booth or to the stands for any of those distracting interviews the Tigers telecasters like to do, I guess to take the pressure off Shep and Whoever having to pay too close attention to the game, which, I don’t know, maybe hurts their heads or something. The Dodgers TV people don’t go in for that nonsense. Gonna do it again today!

  26. The problem with guys like that is they are so on immediate help and what's needed today and the big picutre isn't seen at all. We saw it last year with us when we didn't take a WR. The same thing happened. All they care about is filling preceived needs today while a team might be thinking two or three seasons down the road.
