  2. They could have counted the write-in votes ahead of time. The Republicans didn't allow it because they wanted to make it look like the election was stolen.

  4. Trump raised almost $250 million, $150 million in the first week after the election, on claims of election fraud that they knew to be false. That sounds like fraud itself to me!

  5. I don't really think that is the problem here. It's more a matter of you accept the God of the OT as authentic or you don't. And if you do not, then you cannot simultaneously entertain biblical fundamentalism, unless you are willing to simply gloss over the most jarring possible contradictions, which by and large much of Christianity has been exactly willing to do for millennia. The alternative is to take a more nuanced view that the OT as a document is a human interpretation of the Hebrews understanding of their historical experience. But to do that undercuts the authority of clergy to mediate the interpretation of the infallible text, so the theologians of fundamentalism wave away the inherent contradictions and continue to argue infallibility because it is the key to their power. Now clearly there is another Christianity that has a completely different approach to all of this, but they have been a shrinking minority and American Fundamentalists pretty much view those people as mushy headed apostates.

  6. I don't have many hopes that much will arise from this, but for reasons of history and knowledge, it is a good thing that they are getting this on the record and giving the public the opportunity to learn from it. And doing so in the most sober way possible. I get that there is a desire for certain political outcomes to arise from this, but the idea that nothing comes of it doesn't mean that the exercise isn't worth it or doesn't make it meaningless.

  7. It's only fair to give Avila credit for the pitching if he is going to take the blame for the offense.

  8. beat me to it. I think the Royals have rebuilt a few times since the Tigers heyday of Leyland/DD as well. The team put their eggs the fall in your lap top prospects that horrible teams receive and some has beens who were good for a few weeks. The Ilitch regime is not about results they are about branding and marketing. As long as they have the clowns on TV talking about Pick The Stick and they get Rocket Mortgage to sponsor the foul poles and they can trot out some lame slogan like "Detroit Roots" he's fine. They're fine with selling crappy pizza as long as they can make 15 cents from every sale and build an ugly building downtown. But hey.... they remodeled the Fox in 1987 so they'll forever be forgiven.

  13. I think it's that in 1974 Republicans still had things they believed in that could make the country better if they won. So they had a program and the program was more important than Nixon or a single cycle in the WH. But the GOP finally got their program under Reagan and by 2001 and certainly 2008 it had failed miserably. Today GOP ideology is bankrupt, they run to do nothing but win. They are a party of nihilism. This enforces that's only about the tribe and the win.

  14. Don't talk to me like that. I have a right to my opinion. Victor Reyes is not the only player who gets fake injuries. There could be others. I bet Casey Mize isn't really having surgery.

  15. Nope. According to bozos like Larry Summers, the entire reason we have inflation is because of the $1,400 stimulus checks in the American Rescue Plan. Mind you, this is the same Larry Summers who told Obama and his White House team to cut down the size of the stimulus plan after the economy had just fallen off a cliff and into recession in 2008-2009. Summers pushed and was victorious in getting a significantly smaller stimulus than was actually needed to help people during the Great Derivatives Financial Crises.

  16. Maybe it's the old man in me today, but Trump was the conduit for a lot of what has been festering in this country for decades. He made it acceptable, not necessarily to the main stream but to enough to make it dangerous. Trump spurred on by Right Wing Media, folks like Rush, Hannity, even Tucker and such would have never had the chance to have a platform like they do now 30 or so years ago. Not to mention a generation of opportunistic politicians who see the golden ring. And to all those folks its mostly a way to get richer, but to their audience its gospel.

  18. Not enough. It's not that he 'didn't accept' the results, it's that he actively used lies and deception to try to motivate a rejection of the results, by force if he could swing it if not by abuse of the courts and media if he couldn't. That's a damn site more than 'not accepting' and needs a lot more sanction than a harsh judgment by history.

  19. Lee made a post in one of the threads about Fedder being more important than Hinch and it got me thinking about the whole pitching/hitting dichotomy with the Tigers org. I think there is one conclusion - which is that Avila is a 'process' guy and today pitching is something which is definable by 'process'. The tech has allowed teams to understand spin, release, movement. And the Tigers (as they should) have gone all in. They seem to know how to put pitchers into the pitches they should be throwing and how to optimize them throwing those pitches and they appear to have a good system for evaluation of the quality of arms (TJs among them not withstanding). I don't think it's arguable that it been nothing short of phenomenal the way the system has been able to come with young pitchers and BP arms to keep this team even treading water in the face of catastrophic pitching staff injuries and a once in a lifetime offensive collapse. Al has put processes into place which have resulting an org with strong pitching and has hired a manager in Hinch who managers his staff well. That part has been a success. But on the other side, hitting is whole different ball game. There are many aspects you can coach a hitter for, being short to the ball, weight transfer, swing path, and all of that can help a hitter put the bat where he wants to when he wants to, which is great. However 99% of hitting is knowing the point you want to get the bat to, IOW, knowing where the ball is going to be, and there isn't a whole lot anyone has ever figured out to help a hitter do that. And in the absence of any clear system for developing that, like there is in pitching, the Tiger org doesn't seem to have any clear ideas about how to make a good hitter or how to find them, other than that Al likes guys who don't K a lot. Well who doesn't? I like Al's organization abilities, but he needs to find a hitting 'guru' for the system that can show him how to bring some of what has been accomplished on the pitching side to the hitting side.

  21. Something else, huh? And I was assured by several geniuses around here that rebuilding on the fly was impossible and that tanking for at least 5 years (preferably 7!) was the ONLY way that SMART teams rebuild. What an f'ing joke.

  25. Call up Greene & DFA Grossman. I mean, he's not part of the future, he brings nothing. I think the team is better off to give Reyes, Cameron and Hill as much time as they can to see who they might stick with in the future. Grossman just clogs up the works at this point.

  30. Don't know where to start with all this vitriol present. First do not confuse the relationship between Judaism and Christianity. While we worship the same God, almost, our paths differ greatly. The theology is too extensive to try to compare at this site. I recommend a college coarse at a Christian or Judaism college. The following link will give some insite as to why the Jews believe as they do. It does not apply to Christians in most cases. https://forward.com/life/403206/how-orthodox-jews-observe-the-commandment-to-not-wear-wool-and-linen/ Best of luck in your search for the truth.

Seeing that always brings a smile to my face, not only for the kids involved and thinking about how much I enjoyed my party and going to friend's parties but the main reason is to me it just reminds me that summer has arrived!

  36. True but teams were probably just basing that off a normal timeline of an acl tear but every player is different and heals differently. To me the fact that it is even in discussion that he may be ready for the first day of camp leads me to think that he is pretty far along. With that said Im certainly in the camp of not rushing him and really don't care either way if he starts the first week, I just want whats best for him long term.

  37. My dog Lucy was euthanized a couple days after I came home from the hospital (mid-May), … it’s been a sad few weeks…. But today, in the mail, I received a gift from a friend.. a framed photo of me & Lucy on a “road trip” that was just a week before. She had such a good day… so glad she got that adventure day (complete with a burger)- neither of us knew she’d be gone in a week.
