I’m wondering if you all can hear my standing ovation to Michigan citizens from your eastern sisters & brothers in NJ.6 points

Yes, this is from his first home start. It was also the first game both of my daughters got to attend. We were in the upper deck third base side. As I explained the foul poles and the warning track to them, some of the people who were part of the PAWS team, saw me pointing and explaining various parts of the field to my kiddos, and asked if we would like to be Tiger Fans of the game. We were elated when they put us behind home plate. Both of my girls are still Tigers fans to this day.4 points

Whoever was Fetterman's Campaign Manager should be teaching a class to Democratic Operatives and perspective candidates. That was a masterclass in messaging, branding, and hammering your opponent. They thoroughly took down Dr. Oz and made him look like a clown. As well, at least judging by the graphic above, it seems Fetterman did potentially perform better with white working class and rural areas. We will have to see what the county and precinct demographics look like. Fetterman joins a line of people in the Senate, including Tammy Baldwin, Raphael Warnock, and Sherrod Brown, that prove that progressive policies can win in swing states and red states. You don't always have to be the lite beer version of the GOP candidate and have a Sista Soulja moment. Fetterman (and Tim Ryan in Ohio) also show how the Democrats need to adopt a more populist, progressive message on the economy, Fetterman was relentless in railing against corporate greed driving inflation, raising the minimum wage, and taxing the wealthy. We needs Democrats all over the map who will campaign like John Fetterman, Tim Ryan, Sherrod Brown, Tammy Baldwin, and Raphael Warnock will on the economy. Populist progressivism wins!2 points

People on this site have been calling for a deader ball for as long as I can remember, specifically the mid-1980's ball (not 1987). If they had done that 10 years ago none of the nonsense about banning the shift would have ever happened and max effort on every pitch would not be required.2 points

The Democrats need to make a strategic move they just refuse to make and it hurts them. They need to add Pennsylvania and Colorado to the early primaries with Iowa and New Hampshire. Good potential candidates drop out after IA & NH, two states with no big cities and 2 of the bottom 4 in minority population. The Democrats need to strongly appeal to the suburbs of big cities and they need candidates that aren't afraid to be Democrats. Putting all your eggs in the basket of two farm states is silly when it's pretty clear that Republican vs. Democrat is more Rural vs. City than anything else. You have to appeal to those folks who are tied to cities even though they want to live a little bit out of city centers. Neither party can win without them and we aren't putting our best foot forward with just Iowa and New Hampshire. I don't think Biden runs again. Do I think he's slipping with age? No, he puts his foot in his mouth, sure, but he did that 40 years ago too, but if it's DeSantis, he'll be 46 and that contrast will hurt Biden. I don't know who the next Democratic star might be, but we need that person. If he can find a way to differentiate himself, it could be Booker). Also, I think Tim Ryan could make a solid candidate. Just because he lost in Deep-Red Ohio, it shouldn't sink him. Mark Kelly (I think he's going to win) is showing he can appeal to some crossover voters. No, he's not the most liberal guy, but that's okay, we need someone who can win, and I think nationally he can. I'm a fan of Katie Porter, but she's barely hanging on (though it is a traditionally Red district). I think she's a potential for the Democrats, but she'll need a term in the Senate first. I think she could appeal to dyed-in-the-wool Dems and the women in the suburbs - especially if Republicans make wisecracks about her because she's not exactly a model. Remember how Trump attacked Carly Fiorina's looks? That won't play well in a General Election with the suburban women you need to win. Abortion is still going to be a major topic in 2024. DeSantis (and locally John James) were smart to avoid it, for the most part, but in a national election they won't be able to side step it.2 points

Figured the knife fight for control of the chamber would be a good starting place here. The working assumption seems to be that, assuming the GOP pulls it out, the Freedom Caucus will hold all the cards. But as the piece above suggests, that may not be entirely accurate; really, the "majority makers" when the votes are counted are going to be Republicans elected from Biden districts in New York who will want to be reelected in future cycles. It stands to reason they will want to exert some pressure as well. Either way, this process is going to be a nightmare for Kevin McCarty, particularly if they hold only between 218-220.1 point

Georgia, Michigan and Nevada seem like the sweet spot for first three... it's a nice cross section of voters that the Dems consider important demographically (ie. black, Midwest working class, Hispanic)1 point

always good to see the nba players rallying around social justice causes like defending the guy who thinks jews historically keep black people down and drink the blood of christian babies. but hey, nike is bad and that's what's really important to point out. gotta keep those sjw credentials. BTW: Russians just emptied out of Kherson completely so no face-to-face confrontations. About as orderly as one could expect on the Russian side which actually surprises me... I thought it would be a lot messier and a lot more confrontational... But Ukrainian flags now all over Kherson...1 point

I think it's worth noting in Michigan it used to be you worked in the factories during the week and went up north on the weekend. After 30 years, you retired and moved up north. Northern Michigan has a lot of retirees from the Detroit area with a strong union legacy. With that said, Republicans are losing ground in Traverse City which is the largest area in the lower peninsula north of Bay City. They are getting close to losing Emmett as well. I just don't see rural Michigan becoming Appalachia any time soon.1 point

Would LeBron be so understanding if a person said an anti African American remark but then apologized after public backlash or does that type of leeway only happen when it's antisemitic?1 point
-
Unpossible. People are tired of me saying it I'm sure, but I'll never understand why it never regiestered with many media figures that Oz was an incredibly unlikable candidate. It's almost like they assume that his polished TV look was all he needed and the substance didn't matter.1 point

No, I think being a Governor of California is kind of a third rail for Democrats. We'll see when Newsom likely runs in 2024. He's a potential star, but a lot of California things will be used against him. Senator from California would be better. But I think Katie likes her role of being an interrogator, and she's really good at it. Some comes with facts, asks direct questions and doesn't play games.1 point

Katie will be a star at some point. I agree that the senate might be a logical next move, or even the governor position.1 point

We have a 40 man roster with 2 Castros, Kody Clemens,Zack Short, and a player named Miggy. So far, I see another 5 to 7 players who need to be gone.1 point

I can't believe people in the GOP think McConnell is a failure. Personally I'd love it if we had someone 1/2 as successful as McConnell on our team.1 point

Masters would have to win over 25% of the remaining ballots, which doesn't seem likely given that he's underperformed Trump 2020 in every county in the state (including ones already completed). Dave is on solid ground calling it IMO1 point

It's delightful. Sold your soul to the orange-haired Devil and now you want it back? He's not giving it back. You belong to him now. That's on you. It's gonna take a decade or more to shake him too. You dove in all the way and now you're drowning. Again, it's on you. You sold your soul so much to him that when one of your colleagues' spouses, an elderly man, was attacked in their own home with a hammer, you made jokes about it. I don't think that played well outside of your cult and you can't win on just the cult's support.1 point

I'm not sure it's quite passed yet (NPR hasn't called it, for example), but it's doing pretty well, leading by about 30k votes. probably mostly Multnomah/Washington County ballots left, which is in its favor. in any case, I'm extremely pleased that "yes" shows every sign of holding its lead.1 point

Why schedule games against good football teams if it makes it less likely you win a championship? I’m not going to sit here and say that it’s good for the sport for Michigan to play no one good in non-conference play. But it’s on the sport to make playing that game worth the risk of losing that game. I can’t blame Harbaugh for scheduling the teams that put his program in a the best spot to win a championship.1 point

the NHL suspension system is a joke. You get two games for putting a guy out 10 weeks? If a guy gets hurt on a clean, legal play, that the risk you take putting on your skates, but when it's clearly an illegal hit - esp a boarding call - which are inexcusable, you should be out until the guy you hurt comes back. Make that that the rule and those plays will end the next day.1 point

According to baseball reference there was a double header. Tigers won the first 2-1. Sean Douglas got the start and got the win Farnsworth the save. Farnsworth was traded about a week later (7/31) for Ramon Colon and Zach Minor. Twins won the second game 5-3 Verlander got the start and took the loss. The day before the game the Tigers picked up IF John McDonald in a conditional deal. He was sold back to Toronto in November1 point

Not sure of the significance but I know I was at this game cause that is my little brother's 21st birthday and I remember we spent a day downtown at the casino and the Tigers to celebrate. Trying to remember specifically what happened in that game and I can't.1 point

60 over a junk school is probably the same as 40. At some point, there are diminishing returns. 60 over a junk team vs 20 over a mid tier team? Look, I just don’t see what’s so impressive about beating down inferior talent. It does nothing for me. Why hide and duck and dive from quality opposition if you think you’re a playoff team? The Big Ten schedule isn’t such a tough gauntlet that scheduling (and keeping said scheduled game) UCLA or Oregon or Notre Dame or someone of that ilk should be out of the question. Let’s call it what it is. That Michigan out of conference this season and next is simply embarrassing and gutless.1 point
