  1. Hey folks, long time no see. I saw Lorenzen signed with the Tigers so I figured I’d stop by and give a Reds fan perspective on him: He gets hurt a lot. When he does pitch there will be stretches where’s he just mows down the opposition and he looks like Nolan Ryan. Then there will be long stretches of mediocrity. He’s a very frustrating pitcher to watch because you will watch him at times and not understand why he isn’t one of the best pitchers in baseball. Then he will have 3 starts in a row where you’re wondering why he isn’t DFA’d immediately. His arms are massive. Looks like Popeye but on steroids. Anyways, hope everyone is doing well, congrats on the 2nd win in a row against the Buckeyes.

  2. It also speaks to how having a good QB in this league is really a luxury as well. As mediocre as we all thing Goff is or that it's all about coaching, there are a lot of other franchises who would take him in a heartbeat over what they currently have - and it's often not easy to find someone even that good from the pile. I hear the same variation of this frequently where I live about Dak Prescott - granted he's been better than Goff, but like with Goff, it's fair to question whether he can be the guy to take it all the way, but he's the guy that they have right now. And there is no guarantee that the next man up will be any better.

  3. Who cares about any comparison between Stafford and Goff? The question is should the Lions burn a 1st rounder at a position that doesn’t appear to be in need of an upgrade (vs using if to improve our defense). Also, if anyone saw the game between OSU and Harbaugh’s babies, you would not use a top-10 pick on Stroud. I’m happy to ride 2023 with our current offense and use our 1st and 2nd rounders to upgrade the D.

  4. Trump's major announcement hopefully will be that all this was an Andy Kaufman-esq "work" and he was earnestly hoping to test his fellow Americans to see how far Democracy could be pushed. He's sorry for all the pain and suffering all this has caused and he would now like to live out his life in quiet hoping to publish his memoirs he has tentatively named "Reflections: my life of sorrow and service to my fellow citizens; a study in sacrifice and abnegation"

  5. He wanted to play for a contender, which is why he left the Astros.

  6. Roster-wise it's been a very Avilaesque offseason so far. I hope those new scouting people are really really good. Remember 1989-2005? We're only in the middle of another similar run. I know his hands are tied.............but I hate being out of the pennant race in January every year.

  7. This just popped up in my feed. What a beautiful moment it would be if the Bears actually took an overrated OSU tackle and let Anderson fall to us.

  8. It wasn’t just McVey and his system either. Zac Taylor, Matt Lafleur, and even old UM passing guru Jedd Fisch were all around Goff and played a key role in his development. They are highly regarded and are all great with QB’s. A young guy couldn’t ask for a better staff to learn from.

  9. We're on the same page here. There's something I just don't like about McVay. He's got that Patricia type arrogance but he actually wins. I feel like he's the type if the Rams continue to lose that players will turn on him but I also think he is the type to bail before it gets to that point.

  10. that doesnt mean goff didnt benefit greatly from mcvay. it probably says a lot more about how well ben johnson and dan campbell are doing and that perhaps they should be mentioned in the same converaation.

  13. I think we are all burying the lede in this comparison of Goff and Stafford. Goff was horrible most of last year and at times early this season playing behind an injured OL. He’s been a stud this year as his blockers have gotten healthy and improved. Stafford won the SB behind a dominant OL last year. Retirements and injuries this year has him behind trash and the entire team has gone down the tubes. There are one or two anomalies in the league but by and large most of the QB’s will go as far as their protection will take them.

  19. I don't think anyone is saying Goff is the problem. I think most are saying if Holmes thinks there is a QB in the draft that can be better than Goff in 2024 and on a rookie contract so he can spend the $ elsewhere, he should do it. If he doesn't, he shouldn't and Goff is just fine. Goff has played great and took away the absolute need to draft a QB. But if Holmes believes one of the guys available is the right one, he should definitely take him.

  20. That’s my biggest gripe with the hockey rink on a football field. You can fit 110,000 in Michigan Stadium for Michigan/MSU or Wings/Hawks but good luck knowing what’s going on if you’re there. It’s a cool one-time experience but wouldn’t work long-term.

  21. I have a friend who made the move from the DC area to Santa Fe, NM and loves it there. I think her original intent was Colorado. She lived in the Denver area about 25 or so years ago and loved it. Her former employer had an office there and she lobbied for a permanent transfer before she decided on early retirement. I think she looked at prices around Colorado Springs and Boulder.(She was also on a tiny house kick around then) Don't rule out Va. The summers aren't much worse than NJ and we get a bit less snow east of the Piedmont region. The Williamsburg area is becoming popular for retirees. Decent medical care, especially with Richmond only about an hour away. There are enough "cultural activities" to keep you interested. Plus Colonial Williamsburg and the rest of the Triangle area. Once again about an hour to Richmond and pretty much the same to Va Beach/Norfolk for decent regional airports.

  22. Yeah it seem like there's sufficient room on the other side honestly so I dunno why they are sharing a side line. If they really think it's too small on the one side, pivot on the top left corner of the field and swing the bottom to the left a bit. I hadn't really thought about capacity... I was more just looking at distance from the field for the fans. Many other multi-purpose stadium end up with HUGE field space with the fans well removed. Here the only spot where that happens is the green monster. Heck, put some collapsible seating in the wall that can slide out during football games and you could increase capacity while also further eliminated 'wasted' space. For the record: I seriously doubt it would ever happen... just thinking out loud.

  24. If he takes an intentional grounding in the end zone, that would be a safety. He had time to get rid of it though just needed to throw it close to a receiver.

  26. This is a fair take. As it stands right now, they need help on the defense more than they need to roll the dice on one of these QBs

  29. Holy Christ, Michael Lorenzen looks like the bouncer at the toughest club in town. If he doesn't make the rotation, who is going to break the news to him? Hinch? Fetters? Get serious, they won't want any part of it. I'd pick Horton, I bet he could still beat up Lorenzen if it came to that.

  31. I just looked up his numbers: .233/.282/.429. for his career. Nolt bad. He wouldn't be the worst hitter in their line-up.

  32. Yeah, his numbers deteriorated… along with Gurley’s knee and Cooks’s concussions. We all saw him play his way out of LA. It wasn’t all his fault but clearly he was a reclamation project when he got here. He will never have the arm talent of Stafford or the physicality of Allen or the speed of Jackson or the creativity of Mahomes. Yes Goff has proven he can look lost behind a porous line with no weapons (like Brady and Rodgers), but he’s also proven he is good enough with the right pieces around him to put up top ten QB numbers. There aren’t a lot of guys you can say that about. If I thought there was a can’t miss, generational talent this draft like Trevor Lawrence was said to be, I’d want the Lions to take him. I prefer to go into next year with Goff and a top five DL pick as opposed to the same mediocre defense and a lottery ticket under center.

  33. From what I read, Sauce typically lines up on a specific side of the field vs a specific receiver so I think Ben Johnson will be able to get favorable matchups for St Brown. I would like to see the Lions get Williams involved in the play action crosses they run so well. His speed is a weapon east-west as well as north-south.

  34. Once Rodon signs, I think we move ERod to one of the bridesmaids. He has a team friendly contract. Even if he opted out, he’s a huge bargain for a good team at $14M for next season. Probably our best trade chip.

  35. If you're not looking south, I'm assuming cold weather isn't a deterrence? Midland, MI is a college town, good business community, a small center for the arts, a fortune 500 company that makes it very diverse ethnically, & yet not TOO big. Plus you have the added bonus of being within driving distance of a HUGE number of morons.

  37. This post is correct, although the highlighted number could be lower depending on advances by guys like Torkelson/Greene/Meadows, etc. Which also speaks to the fact that, as much as people may roll their eyes at pinning hopes on those already on the roster, in order for them to be even have a chance at being remotely competitive or even sniffing .500 in 2023, more than anything else that is what will make up the difference. Not any one individual free agent signing.

  38. The opt out possibility makes trading for him a bit trickier, too. I don’t really see him, elsewhere this season. But who knows, maybe San Diego find themselves in a pinch for a SS?
