I agree, but Hinch arrived at the bottom of the 9th with the game in his hip pocket, if either Foley or Lange, especially Lange, had gone 2 innings. Wins are too scarce to just piss them away and then let Hinch off the hook.5 points

That’s easy. Craig Monroe because it’s the only way to get him off the broadcasts.3 points

In Javy's defense I don't think he's been on 2nd base all season, probably doesn't know what to do there.2 points

I was flipping channels and saw Buck Farmer. I can confim that he still sucks. He came into a tie game and allowed a home run to the first batter he faced.2 points

Javy benched, good to see some repercussions for a mental error like that.1 point

Funny, I still hold a grudge about 2009 and to this day like to see the Penguins fail. Whereas the Avs feel like a totally different franchise from before, I hardly connect them to the 1996-2002 heated rivalry days. I felt nothing when they won the Cup last year.1 point

Pretty soon the Rays are going to have a winning streak that is larger than their paid attendance.1 point

Yeah, people talk about OKC and Houston with their war chest of picks (throw Utah in there now too, Orlando as well) while the Pistons don't but the reality is that Weaver didn't have multiple stars to trade for a wealth of picks while those franchises did. Regardless, quality matters much more than quantity in the NBA so the Pistons just need to hit with a few of their prospects and they'll be off to the races. They need some lottery luck too.1 point

Their relative success in 2021 was largely luck. They were projected to be under 70 wins in 2022 and that's where they ended up. They, of course, had a lot of bad luck in 2022 and their true talent was probably somewhere between their 2021 and 2022 records. I do understand though that agents and players probably don't consider BP/FanGraphs type projections in their selection of teams and the team probably looked more attractive before 2022 than before 2023 even though the talent level was similar.1 point

Wingeter just looks nervous to me when he’s pitching. Part of it is due to his heavy sweating and red face, but maybe he should be eased into clutch situations.1 point

Also, there is zero chance A.J. Hinch gets fired this season.1 point

If Al Avila could piece together a decent BP the last couple of years on bad teams with a known poor FO and no prospects I'm not sure why there is grounds to give Harris a pass.1 point

Hinch's defense of himself was that there was no chance the call would be overturned, but that really isn't the point, is it? You still owe it to your players to give the ump hell for making a bad call that led to the run that was the difference in the game. Your manager rolls over for the ump --> your teams rolls over to the opposition. QED.1 point

I have a feeling that once Miggy retires, Detroit will be firmly in his rearview mirror, and he will contemplate us only once more.1 point

The other thing about free agency is the last word: "agency" A team can get out there and make competitive offers on players to try to get them to come to your team, but players have agency and aren't obliged to agree to a deal regardless of how aggressive you are on the market. Even with the top of mind discussion about relievers after last night's game, for all the "Idiot Harris didn't resign Chafin/Fulmer" comments, is it even clear that either would come back here? Particularly Chafin, who accepted less than last year to pitch in AZ? Fans generally seem to treat free agency like it's rolling down to Kroger and buying a bottle of ketchup... it's maybe more like buying a house, especially these days. Just because you put in an offer doesn't mean it's gonna be accepted.1 point

I think it’s fair for Hinch to try different guys in different situations early in a season to see who can do what, particularly when you have a roster that is basically turned over from the previous year. But he definitely should have saved Lange for the ninth for this game, because we really needed to win this game. And every game until we win again will also be this game.1 point
-
There has got to be a way to work out a trade with the Marlins and let Miggy have a half season goodbye tour with his original team. I’ve got to think this would be amenable by all sides at some point this season.1 point

I won't argue about Lange. Hinch thinks he's playing for June 1st. The team needed a win.1 point

I'm not letting Hinch off the hook. That was an easily winnable game.1 point

So I hate to make fun of our local hacks.....not! McCosky's story about Brieske today - I'll give him credit for describing the procedure Beau had, but then he drops this tidbit: LOL - you'd think a baseball writer, esp one in Det, would know what TJ surgery is by now, or know the difference between a nerve and a ligament, or know how to use Google. Keep trying Chris - you'll get there. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2023/04/11/tigers-brieske-has-hydro-procedure-on-ailing-arm-bez-dropped-in-batting-order/70103480007/1 point
