  4. He should be no more than our Gates Brown, at this point. In 1974, Gates had 99 ABs in 73 games. 4 HRs, 17 RBIs, .242 BAA, .696 OPS.

  5. We scored 6+ runs only 4 times in our first 23 games, after today's performance that now makes 6 times in the last 10 so the bats are heating up!

  6. One purpose of the "only outlaws will have guns" mantra was to make us feel less safe b/c there'd be fewer "good guys with guns" to save the day. I think that's proven to be a worthless defense tactic. I just wish republicans hated guns as much as they hated minorities and LGBTQ and Drag Queens.

  19. I won't share the actual tweet here—I'll leave that to those sympathetic individuals to share if they want to—but I just find the language being used in the headline really interesting, because practically nobody I have ever known has ever used "jackal" as an insult, political or otherwise. You know who does use it? Putin and the Russians. "Jackals" is a super common political insult there going back to at least Soviet times, along the lines of "running dogs" used by the old Asian Marxists. It's the little clues that reveal things ...

  20. F-150 is the top selling vehicle in Canada, year after year. Number 2 is the Ram. I've never met a driver of either one who actually needed it for a commercial reason, or for agriculture.

  21. Odds are you are going to regress to your pythag but seemingly every year there is a team that on paper isn't very good but ends up being in or near the playoffs cause they do indeed outplay it by several to double digit wins. Maybe we will be that team this year.

  22. The record outside of the AL East thing screams of being something that will normalize as more games are being played, although clearly it's the best division in baseball and the Tigers may just be an extreme example of how that it is the case. I do think just looking more broadly at the division, while the Tigers have some risk factors roster wise (SP has been mentioned, hitting got off to a slow start and may have a tendency toward being streaky), and I cannot believe I'm saying this, but they may actually have less question marks than every other team in the division except the Twins. The Guards have been ravaged by injuries to their starting rotation and a mediocre offense that has regressed into one of the worst offenses in baseball in 2023... the White Sox basically have no reliable pitching right now and a mediocre offense that has seen it's fair share of injuries.... the Royals have no pitching and, outside of Vinnie P, Bobby Witt and Sal Perez, not exactly the most reliable offense either. If the tick up in the Tigers offense is water reaching it's level, I definitely think second place is a good goal for this club, even with some of the risk factors it otherwise possesses. But they will need to keep improving offensively, and really that could potentially come down to Greene and Tork continuing to progress as hitters. And the starting pitching will have to hold as well.... hopefully getting Skubal back could be a plus in this regard.

  23. Yes. And his stuff was generally mild. I try to give some people the benefit of the doubt on here in terms of their situation. He could have been 75 years old and a widow and this gave him an outlet. We had an uncle that lived in CA. I only met him a few times. It was my wife's uncle, her dad's oldest sister's husband. He never came around much and since they lived out there that was even less opportunity to do so. But still, when she would come back he never would. He did come to a reunion and we bonded immediately. He reminded me of my dad. We went out there one year and we spent a lot of time together. His daughter's teased me, calling me their brother. He was a retired truck driver who moved out there in 1955 and would point out "this is the working man's neighborhood". (Average house price now is close to $1M) and he volunteered at an exotic animal rescue and was learning to use "the computer" He spammed me nearly every day to an old email account I used. When he passed away a few days later I went into that account and saw all of them, including one about a week before he died wishing me a happy birthday. That hurt a little. It was just a dormant account I only used for ticket sales. But he was on facebook so we kept in touch that way.

  25. Vecenie has Ivey going 4th and Duren 12th in his redraft which is based not only on their rookie performance but projections going forward. . Says Ivey is the end of a tier then a drop off after him. Has Paulo, Williams and Chet ahead of him.

  31. Yeah I thought Ivey was better over the course of the season but Ben got all to the much better start and when it comes to rookie awards I think that matters alot particularly when you play on garbage teams that the media doesn't really pay attention to. It's like the first impressions are what they remember when the voting comes around.

  40. By and large, individual players don't matter - it's total roster value. The key to moving a guy like ERod is that you do it at the point where you can get more wins back for him they he is worth to you - so you get better. THAT was Avila's single biggest failure. There was reasonable rational for moving most the players he moved, but he failed to get back the value that should have been there and that was the justification for those trades to begin with. The better example was when DD moved Curtis Granderson, he got back Austin Jackson and Max Scherzer. Max is going the HOF and AJ was potentially a perrenial 5 WAR player before the leg injuries accumulated. The idea of moving guys to teams reaching for the brass ring is that they are enough in WinNow mode to give up more absolute future value because the present value you offer is multiplied for them. But sure, if you are the seller in that situation and do not get more back then you gave up, then you have Avila's Tiger legacy.
