  1. Yes - for a couple of resasons. Baddoo has had such a tortuous development path that he still doesn't have enough history to make much in the way of hard judgments about it - i.e. he is still under 200 career AB against LHP. The other is that in his limited time playing semi-often against LHP in 21 he did walk a decent clip (~10%) and if a guy can manage the zone from that could be hint you might have something to work with, while in his weird truncated '22 his platoon split was actually negative - granted mostly because he wasn't hitting RHP either, but if a guy can get better against one, that certainly leaves the door open that he might against the other. Lastly -- if you look at his heat maps there isn't much inside/outside bias - in fact if anything he's a little better against the pitch away, so that's another hint he might have something to work with. So yeah - it's an investment I would make.

  2. It not about changing minds as much as turnout. What is easy to lose track of is that Trump got 8 million more votes in his *loss* in 2020 than in his 2016 win *after* his demonstably feckless presidential performance. He got more votes than the dems cast to elect Obama either time. So Trump has proven he can outpoll a 'normal' Democratic winning vote. It took a turnout not seen in my lifetime for Biden to get to 80 million votes. I'd love to be sanguine that those people all stay energized as they were 4 yrs ago, and that Trump has burned enough bridges since Nov 2020 election to have tarnished the allure that got him 74 million votes, but I can't say I have any particular reason to believe either. And I worry about the Dem side voter's tendency toward "we already fixed that problem" thinking.

  6. Colt Keith is absolutely bored at Erie, after a 3-5, 3 RBI performance tonight. The only thing possibly keeping him down is that he and Malloy each need reps at 3B. Dingler needs to move up to Toledo soon.

  7. And just as an evidentiary note, if the 81 million that voted for Biden had still been energized in 2022, McCarthy would still be minority leader.

  8. i'm rethinking my monty love. i guess i am happy its NOT kevin ollie for all the reasons people have against him (no one else seems interested...). im disappointed quinn didnt even get a look. i am very wary of tom gores making this decision. as many problems as i have with weaver, i trust him more than tom gores. gores gave us svg as president, gm, and coach. him hiring monty could just be him "big game hunting" in an area he knows nothing about. i wonder if JEIII's reporting on all this is accurate? i imagine his source is either weaver or someone real close to him. did gores undercut weaver, or did monty's sudden availability change everything? maybe ollie never really was weaver's guy now that lee is the next man up? so many questions. btw, how embarassing is it if monty turns down $10 mil a year to coach your team?

  17. or Hinch just wants to win every game he can without regard to development value because his cachet as a manager is rapidly taking on water running this team. I wouldn't find that unlikely at all. >Maybe because they have already rigorously attempted to get Baddoo to hit lefties better and have determined that he simply can't do so What is the evidence to support this conclusion? - Not being combative here - serious question.

  18. It's a moot point because this management isn't going to do it. I'm finding their approach oddly contradictory. OTOH, Harris comes in with a lot of talk about giving young guys room to develop, then they play these really strict platoons even in game situations where you could easily give the guy a chance to get in an opposite side AB in a low leverage situation. Yeah - I get the idea "get every guy in every game so everyone is on their toes." I just don't see this as the same level of holy grail they apparently do that it has to override everything else. Then again, the extened loss of Riley and ERod is going to kneecap this team anyway.

  19. It just sucks, right when he looks like he is about to turn a real corner and blossom into the star we hoped he would be this happens. Between him and Erod it appeared that we may actually break our drought of only having relievers make the All Star team(not counting the charity Miggy thing last year) but of course they both get injured now our last hope is Zach Mckinstrey.

  21. It doesn't matter whether he does it. It matters only that he says he's going to do it. His only interest is in getting elected, not in governing.

  22. I would be willing to take the loss on the plan for a period of time. It is hard to go off track record with Baddoo, because he has had an unusual development path and may not have had a fair opportunity to learn to hit lefties. I also am wiling to accept that, through analysis and scouting, they have already identified him as someone who is not likely to reduce his platoon split.

  24. Nice to see Flores get some Ks even if it did come with 5 walks. Also Jung has been in a tailspin of late, right after it appeared he was starting to turn the corner. Too bad.

  33. I remember a game last week where Riley in a rare instance lazily came up to retrieve a single up the middle which in turn allowed the runner to go from 1st to 3rd, instead of commenting on that all Monroe did was praise Riley for not trying to throw him out at third but instead threw it into 2nd to keep the double play in order. I don't think Riley deserved to be raked across the coals for making a rare mental/lazy mistake but it should've atleast been mentioned on the broadcast, not only was it not mentioned instead he heaped praise about something he did during the play.
