  3. Intent matters. Do you think someone was trying to be pro nazi? From what I have read someone was doing some youtube trivia channel thing on the board and didn't screen the photos. Was someone trying to intimidate with this? Or be cute? I really don't think it harmed anyone. It was dumb and careless.

  4. 1) This I agree with. 2) I also agree with this. And I would add: health at key positions. And learning curves (and health) from rookies who are playing key parts in the Lions season this year: And that includes Branch & Campbell, as well as Gibbs, Jamo (essentially a rookie), and LaPorta. Further, maybe this time next year, with just growth from our existing players, rookies and all (and pretending that we have zero players adds/ minuses from now till then): I think we also play much better. 1 Year additional experience playing at a higher level and against top=level teams. We'll have a 1st place schedule next year instead of an easy one this year. Health (maybe). And second year of experience for all of the above-mentioned. And even add in Brodric Martin who they're trying to mold into a monster DT (super-raw right now from team reports) and we have absolutely no clue how that will turn out... So yeah, I think next year results are different from this years results (better, IMO). I'm eager and brainstorming and scheming right now though... how to get the Lions to that upper echelon level, versus their very very good but not with the top dawgs level it looks like they're in right now... Just me 2 cents.

  5. It is nice to see Cossa settling in a bit at the AHL level, hopefully he keeps it up. Right now he's fifth in the league in save percentage and the four ahead of him are all older than him (though only one is a true vet we've seen in the NHL). Wallstedt is 28th in the league in save percentage but him and Cossa have only played two games.

  6. Campbell’s hallmark has been his aggressiveness. The Baltimore staff took it right away. Baltimore was the aggressor and the Lions — coaches and players — were on their heels all game Baltimore won the coin toss, took the ball, challenged the Lions defense to keep up with Lamar’s versatility and they couldn’t do it. They exposed Jack Campbell as a rookie. I still think he will get there someday but he was not there yesterday On Detroit’s first offensive drive they gave it to Gibbs for four yards. Not bad. Had Montgomery been healthy they would have fed him again, played to their strength, and given the defense time to regroup. But they were afraid to put too much on Gibbs — and I’m sure Baltimore knew it. (Even with garbage time he only got 11 carries.) Instead Goff threw an incomplete on a weak throw to the flat, then took a sack. The defense was already shell-shocked. By the second offensive play of the game it was easy to see the Lions were in for a long day. Yes, Detroit’s lack of depth at RB and CB got exposed. Their lack of high end skill at DT got exposed. They could still use a big, physical receiver who can make contested catches. (Josh Reynolds is not quite this guy.) But they fell into the same habits that have plagued them against Hurts and Geno Smith in the past. The coaches did not have the team ready to play and they should take this one on the chin.

  11. Even though losing to AFC teams has nothing to do with NFC playoff seeds, I’m still hoping Miami wins against Philly tonight. 😉

  12. Just 1 game but this is the type of game that should bring expectations back down to earth. The Lions are a good team and are on the right track but they're not Superbowl contenders quite yet. Also, I think it needs to be mentioned that Glenn's defense gets carved up by any good QB they played. I think games against Ridder, Love, Young and Mayfield gave the false impression that this defense is good enough to compete with the big dogs, not to mention the soft schedule that they faced the second half of last year too. They still need an impact player or two on defense and they're still very young at some key spots. In the long run, a loss like this might serve them well to see how they bounce back from their first real adversity this year. I'm interested to see how it plays out.

  13. it was one game. they'll be ok. but to compete against the best in the playoffs they need playmakers. they dont have enough right now.

  14. I would wager on starting in Erie next year. If he's got it in Spring Training, I'm not opposed to plopping him in the big league rotation. TINSTAAP and PPI are big drivers in that.

  25. I don't know where this is being discussed but today I see an airstrike on a hospital in Gaza and seeing multiple tweets saying it's Israel's bomb and others saying it's from Hamas... misinformation is king now and we've reached the consequences of a post Jan 6 fake news world. Nobody will believe anything that isn't on "their side" and no matter what footage or statements show minds will not be changed. Such a dangerious time now. I have no idea what the truth is because I can't study and research... twitter used to be of some use but now it's not reliable. Everyone is stuck in their bubbles. Not both sidesing this at all because it really is confusing to me. The extremes on both sides have it in for Israel, for different reasons I guess, and the middle who support Israel, as I tend to do, are probably guilty of the same. If Hamas did it, then it's business as usual for them. If Israel did it then they need to be more careful and just take the L if if the alternative means more civilian casualties. There's supposed to be rules of war. You can't take down an entire region, just like we couldn't and shouldn't have after 9/11, even though at the time I suggested just nuking the whole middle east and starting over. Emotions run high but cooler heads are required by those with actual decision making power.

  26. I think this is true generally -- that hitting is much less well understood than pitching. From an analysis standpoint, pitching is 100% mechanics. If the pitcher holds the ball a certain way and uses certain muscles to apply certain forces, the result is 100% predictable/reproducible in terms of the result. So while the task may be hard to accomplish, you at least know exactly what it is: get the hand and arm to go from points A to points B. The Tiger coaching staff seems to have this stuff down. But mechanics is only one piece of hitting, which also includes a set of perceptual and reflex issues that fall under the general heading of 'pitch recognition' that are no better understood than most of what the brain does. You may be able to help a hitter change his swing to increase bat speed or shorten his path to the ball, but the level of certainty that any change in swing mechanics improves hitting performance or even effects it in the right way for any particular hitter isn't very good. It's a time problem. Time is no constraint for a pitcher, he does everything he does on his own schedule. But time dominates all considerations for a hitter. He has no control over it and can only react to it and that part of his problem is not one that coaches have many tools to help with.
