It's terrible, but every time I see a black man named Carlton, I get this image in my head:4 points

She was polling 5th out of 10 but the primary isn't until June so...she has time to get work the pole, er polls.2 points

Don't misunderstand me. I was being glib. These are the issues that lead my thinking on CJGJ, of which MC mentioned a couple: 1) Dude has an ego. He's going to want the chance to be a straight up starter. 2) That said... even though he came back last year after surgery, he may not be able to find a situation in which he is the automatic starter. And may be forced to take MC's 1-year prove it deal. Not a bad bet for the Lions to take if he's willing. 3) That said... I'm going to guess that the Lions are pretty high on Kerby and Iffy as the safeties, and Branch as the nickel. CJGJ can probably squeeze in there somewhere... probably quite a LOT with Kerby losing the most time there, on a guess. 4) So... can CJGJ REALLY still ball after that surgery? I don't remember him being exceptional at the end of last year.. and actually getting burned a couple times. Does another 8 months chilling out and "soft recovering" from that surgery get him back to 100%? Does that make offering him a 1-year contract worth it? 5) The 3 young Lions are... greeeeeeeeeen. Not a huge amount of starting experience. It's why I ask the question that, even though Simmons is on the downside, he isn't the better locker room guy for those 3. I don't think he has more to offer on the field than CJGJ... but I think he has more to offer the other 3 guys in the locker room, coaching them up, and being part of a rotation with them. Just my 2 cents. Again, not taking the glib angle here, but... The biggest question I would have is: Does CJGJ REALLY want to be here for another year, given all of the circumstances?2 points

No way it take until 2026 to reach the bigs for that stuff unless your assuming it take a year or so at that level to be a #2. Personally I think arms only last so long so why wait. He has 3 pitches now. Maybe wait until June to keep a year of control. Not to be irrational, which I am about to be 😃 , Sign JD and bring up Jobe. The Central is really weak. And with Skubal and Jobe in short series....is it 2006 or 2024 ?2 points

It's also fun to see what a player development department that knows what the hell it is doing can do with raw talent basically anyone can pick.2 points

Lucas Giolito signed a $$38 million, two year contract with the Red Sox. Yeah, he's out for the year.2 points

I’ll say the first thing, but I think I actually covered The Athletic first. 😁2 points

This one stings, not going to lie. I knew deep down in my Honolulu blue heart we wouldn't land an A-tier, marquee free agent. But man, I really wanted us to be in on Hunter and I had some small but fading sense of hope that we would land a dynamic pass rusher like Hunter. Lining up a guy with 16 sacks across Aiden sure would have been nice. Just continue to trust the Brad Holmes plan!1 point

if cominskey's agent thought he would get more on the market, he would have declined. he wasnt all that good last year. not as good as he was the year before.1 point

I know he wasn't facing major leaguers, but DAYAM, they probably wouldn't hit him either.1 point

Barring injury it feels almost certain that Jobe will be up at some point later this year even if its just for a start or 2 and next year he should be entrenched in the rotation.1 point

No, but in the NFL it's understood, you generally get an up front bonus and some guarantee, but you know the non guaranteed portion is open ended.1 point

It would be cool if they could somehow revive the Bicentennial Minute that CBS ran literally every night for two years leading up to the date itself. It ran at 7:59PM, I think, and consisted of a famous personality, usually a CBS series regular, reading a few paragraphs about what happened 200 years ago that day, accompanied by contemporaneous art of the incident from the period. Shell Oil sponsored it the whole time. They could restart it again this July 4. They could call it the Semiquincentennial Minute. Rolls right off the tongue. Here's one:1 point

Enjoying the 4th book more than the last...has more of a whodunit type feel. Thanks again for the recommendation @Tiger3371 point

Harris, Okawara and Vaitai did it last year. Honestly, the Lions should stop doing this or else they are going to get a reputation.1 point

It is sold under numerous names but they all affect the way the body digests food. I was on it for diabetes and had constant nausea. I quit after 2 months of throwing up a couple times a week. For a non-diabetic to get this stuff i believe its about $1000 a month, it may have come down some though.1 point

This is it. I am hearing this is becoming a huge deal. I think it was designed for type 2 diabetes but is now more of a glamour drug. One nurse who was 20-30 lbs overweight the last time I saw her at Christmas has lost probably 30 lbs.... https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-approves-new-drug-treatment-chronic-weight-management-first-20141 point

The Benetti Difference: C-Mo makes a point about how Vierling needed to deaden the baseball better on his bunt attempt, Benetti asks why and for C-Mo to explain. Stuff like that just makes for a good broadcast.1 point

My wife pesters me when it gets very high because I think she's under some belief that your odds go up? I don't get it. She gets worked up b/c of the news stories and feels a sense of panic, like black friday shopping. As it is... if I had to pick the option of winning $5M vs $500M, I'd take the $5M every single time. $500M means you take on a full time job just managing the money and dealing with all the beggars. $5M you could stash away peacefully and retire and still live the same life ableit one that didn't require you to work at something you might not care for.1 point

Brad Holmes in free agency is like those Colonial Penn commercials with Alex Trebex talking about the 3 P's. Remember the 3 P's of Brad Holmes free agency: price, price, and price. A price that's team friendly, a price that allows them cap flexibility, and a price they don't have to commit to beyond 2-3 years.1 point

I feel as though Florida may be reaching their tipping point on the whole singular focus on this whole anti-woke horsesht. The legislature is rebelling against some of the stupider and more craven acts, like the proposed state law to punish local officials for taking down Confederate memorials, which is straight-up fascism. That and several laws long such lines were not even put up for a vote in the legislature by their house speaker. There will always be a lot of people who want to cruelly punish other people they hate on a non-stop basis, but they will never achieve majority status over people who may exist somewhere along the sliding scale of empathy for that kind of thing, but who just want a quiet, peaceful society, so they can live without that. I think that might be what’s happening in Florida, and in the end, Ron DeSantis is no Huey Long. He does not have the charm, charisma, or control of resources and militarized policing to force Florida’s residents to accept such displays of institutional cruelty. IOW, when it comes to this anti-woke crap, it’s a treadmill to oblivion. There’s no there there.1 point

lets all take a moment to laugh at the carolina panthers. as they sit and watch the bears take a "generational tbd" qb with their #1 pick they gave up to take a tiny qb who was terrible in year one, lets not forget they turned down mutiple #1 picks to trade for brian burns and instead just dealt him for a second and a fifth. they make the pistons look well run.1 point

I despise the two for one BS at the end of quarters. Just slow down and take one good shot instead of two bad ones.1 point

Yep. I actually love that place but there are some real pessimistic posters that are very loud with their disapprovals.1 point

I don't think injury concerns dissuade Holmes. If the players medicals clear the team and they like the guy they will acquire him. I also think this move gives them more flexibility in the draft to just go and take the BPA on their board and not feel like they have to worry about need in any capacity.1 point

Remember that block by Craig Reynolds against Tampa last year? The player he lit up is none other than Carlton Davis.1 point

There's not a whole lot of guys in the league that can consistently cover WR1s, those guys are going to get their yards one way or another. I'm more concerned with not letting the other guys get theirs too.1 point

At the Lions-Bucs playoff game, Carlton Davis’ mother and family sat two rows in front of me. When he was called for a penalty late in the game, my (dumbass) friend yelled out “WHAT HAPPENED DAVIS” and his mother turned around and said “Some BULL**** that’s what!”1 point

I don't understand dragging the hiring process out....in any field, and I'm a huge culture/fit guy. I don't think it makes the hiring organization look good....you really need all this time to make a decision? What's business decision making look like for you? I say this as someone that works for the federal government with a painful hiring process. I did a phone screening with a guy two weeks ago, panel virtual interview with him last week, and flew him here from the UK this week to put a bow on things. We had drinks tonight to talk ancillary stuff (towns to look for houses, commutes, the non-work side of the process) and he'll come into the office tomorrow to talk nuts and bolts, potential project assignments, and next steps....it'll be a done deal by Tuesday and we will just have to figure out his start date with the move back to the States factored in.1 point
