It's a message board where we express our opinions. I don't need to be lectured by you and neither does anyone else here. You're welcome to sign up and volunteer with the MDP to knock doors as I have professor. https://michigandems.com/volunteer/ But since your now in charge of filtering and regulating opinions around here please let me know what to type next.3 points

And it dates back years.... this isn't new. This is the same editorial board that excoriated Joe Biden when interviewing him during the 2020 primary and whose elevator operator went viral with Biden going down after the interview. I stand behind my earlier comments about this and that I have concerns about Biden's candidacy going forward, but I'm just not going to pretend that the Times, or the Post, or many other journalists are completely straight when they cover Joe Biden. They weren't during the last primary season, and IMO, it's explained in part because he's not an Ivy Leaguer and came from a different class than many of them did. And it mirrors their inability to really capture the median American in their coverage IMO3 points

Yeah, let’s have a debate where the moderators also do the work for Biden as it’s clear he no longer has that option. Or, just hear me out, you put someone up against Trump that can do that job, as they should, as Biden once could.2 points

I think it is to the point where people are so wrapped up in the horse race, they haven't taken a step back to contextualize the magnitude of a poor debate performance against the magnitude of the boiled frog's numerous sins.2 points

You can't moderate Trump. He's just going to do what he wants anyway. It was Biden's job to do that. The old Biden would have grilled him.1 point

Who suggested otherwise. But when one debater is lying a lot more than the other then the snowflakes interpret that as bullying.1 point

From The Hockey News: https://thehockeynews.com/whl/players/2024-nhl-draft-profile-ondrej-becher After being passed over in the last two drafts, Becher is projected to finally hear his name called by an NHL team. The Czechian winger had a season to remember, recording 96 points in 58 games while also representing his country at the 2024 World Juniors. A player who has an impact on the game at both ends of the ice, he has developed into an intriguing prospect this season. Before discussing his offensive ability, Becher's defensive game needs to be recognized. He is excellent at blocking shots and creates turnovers at a high rate. As for his positioning, Becher understands where he needs to be at all times, making it a frustrating task for the opposition to try and generate chances when he is on the ice. As for the offensive zone, Becher thrives with the puck on his stick. While he can score, he is a high-end playmaker who can set up teammates in scoring positions. Becher is also a master in the transition game, as he knows whether the best option is to pass the puck off to a teammate or carry it into the offensive zone himself. The biggest knock against Becher is his age. While most players are just turning 18, Becher is already 20 and is only now bursting onto the scene. He arguably should be ranked higher, but the fact that this is Becher's third draft may see him fall further than he should. If Becher continues to develop, he has the potential to be a middle-six forward at the NHL level who can help out on special teams. As for the draft, he is projected to be selected after the third round and, most likely, before the fifth. One of the most well-rounded players available, he has the potential to light up the WHL once again if he returns for the 2024-25 campaign.1 point

Better yet, if Tigeraholic can bring this season to a close sooner by advancing the dates, I’m good with that.1 point

One thing Avila and Smith had in common is they had to take over at a time when bills were coming due for expensive teams that fell short. I'm not saying they could have done better on the 2017 trades, but there is ample evidence those were owner-mandated (and perhaps league-mandated via the debt service rule) salary dump trades for a team that was bleeding money.1 point

Got a post on Facebook that it's Trump that shares Catholic Values, not that fake Catholic Biden. You mean cheating on every wife? Two divorces? (and a third one coming one day) Banging a stripper and paying her off? Or do you mean Catholic Values as in being around people that you know are molesting children and doing nothing about it? Yep, I guess he does share those values.1 point

Correct. No one should feel compelled to follow the demands the most prolific anti-semite on this board.1 point

I would generalize this to not only (but esp) the NYTimes but frankly most columnists. One of the accountability-free "professions" there is. I used to be super interested in NYtimes columns that crushed W or something like that back in the day but it doesn't take very long to figure out that it totally doesn't matter. Thomas Friedman is the absolute worst.1 point

Al Avila was BAD, full stop. And even I do NOT admire Avila. That's the wrong word. THIS is where I'm at. It's not admiration. It's frustration that I can't mention any of these guys, or any other under Avila, before a few people scream at me how atrocious Avila was. I can't mention "Avila", in ANY context, where chas won't post that stupid picture of Avila laughing, which is annoying to no end. And/or other posters spew torrents of hatred and whatever else at Avila. It's NOT reasonable, IMO. Yes, I get that Avila was BAD, full stop. But... "It's possible for someone to be terrible at the job, but still do some good things." Full stop.1 point

What, you mean we shouldn't take posting demands from the most prolific poster of anti-semitic content on this site?1 point

I don't think anyone here with the possible exception of Echoes admires Avila. I think Avila was a poor GM. It's just that any time someone points out a positive acquisition by Avila - such as Skubal, Greene, Carpenter or Olson - it gets shot down. It seems that Avila is hated so much that people won't give him credit for the few good players he produced. It's possible for someone to be terrible at the job, but still do some good things.1 point

Avila vs. Smith is apples and oranges. The job is so different now than it was 25 years ago. The growth of front offices means you have gone from sole decision maker to manager of people.1 point

I'm on board with SY's process. He wants a McDavid as much as anyone, but when he doesn't have the opportunity to get one, taking 2 way players that will it at least make it hard for the other teams' stars to play against you moves you in the right direction.1 point

Only thing I can think of. Brooklyn had turned down other offers and didn't need to trade him. That drove the price up a bit. I think someone said Atlanta gave up 4 firsts to get Murray.1 point

Nixon was recovering from a knee injury (slammed it with a limo door?) at the time of the debate. He re-injured it entering the TV station in Chicago. He also turned down makeup offered by producer Don Hewitt (later of 60 Minutes fame). The lack of makeup combined with a five o'clock shadow looked bad compared to Kennedy whose preparation for the debate included tanning while on the trail.1 point

Curious what the "and more" is because right now I'm just laughing at how wonky the NBA can be sometimes. Just goes to show you that you have no idea what you're players are worth and what people are willing to give up (or not). Murray and Bridges are both essentially fringe All-Star players. Murray has made 1 All-Star game, Bridges none. They both have 1 All-Defensive team appearance. Both guys are 27 years old. Last year's numbers: Bridges: 19.6 PPG, 3.6 AST, 4.5 REB, 1 STL on 44/37/81 splits Murray: 22.7 PPG, 6.4 AST, 5.3 REB, 1.4 STL on 46/36/79 splits Arguably Murray was better, even at rebounding. Sure, you're going to pay more for a wing because that's the most coveted position in the NBA, but NYK gave up 5 unprotected first, a pick swap, and a second while NO gave up just 2 picks and a trash player.1 point

Most orgs have enough guys that start at 3B and don't have the arm or as MIF and simply outgrow their quickness that they don't have trouble finding guys to move to 1st in the natural course of things. That said, with the National league adopting the DH, more than ever there is always a place for a great bat1 point

A few of us here have still been in touch with Walt via computer sim baseball. The league is still in a great deal of shock. I think its safe to say it was completely out of the blue. I had intended to pass along an obit when it was available. I know it'd been a while since he was around here, but I figured some of you might remember him. Somehow Yooper found out about it and informed he rest of us on Sunday. I think we still had some blind hope that he'd recover and then blast us for getting all sappy about him. Unfortunately that wasn't to be. It's especially heartbreaking to think of how he was found. Bless his daughter for trying to save him. I hope she gets all of the help she needs to deal with that trauma.1 point

Likely every other team in baseball would have taken Tork 1-1 also, and if he was hitting and fielding like he appeared capable, you’d be fine with it.1 point
