  1. I'm not sure lineup construction is our problem right now.

  2. I don't want to see an "evaluation year". They've been doing that for like 7 years now. I want to see a competive team. They can be reasonably competitive and continue to develop young players at the same time. Skubal, Olson, Jobe, another signing like Flaherty/Lorenzon plus Mize makes a solid front five. There are always relievers available, add a couple of secondary bats and try to win. If it's not working at the deadlinem then call it an evaluation season.

  3. will never understand MAGA morons fascination with trans people, who makes up about .0001% of the world's population, and are one of the most vulnerable out groups that there is this woman is not trans but because bigots don't think she fits into their definition of what a woman should be, suddenly she's trans and it attacked by them. this is a threat to all women, because if a woman does not fit into the MAGA morons' definition of what a woman should be - be appearance, or dress, or occupation, or child-bearing decisions, or personality, or demeanor - then it OK to attack her as "trans" so stupid, so dangerous

  4. Trump negotiated directly with the taliban and ignored the Afghan government. He ended up releasing 5000 taliban fighters from prison who turned around and attacked American troops as they were withdrawing from Afghanistan, killing 13 of them. MAGA turned around and blamed Joe Biden and still do, to their ignorant base, to this day.

  9. It’s all about the outrage. EVERYONE SHOULD BE OUTRAGED!!! There are some things to be outraged about, like J6 and the attempt to subvert the will of the voting citizenry. All this crap- just serves to identify the outrage spreaders as the self delusional people they are.

  11. The uniquely American thing about Halfricans is that they identify as black, because society also identifies them as black. As G2 says, Obama was half-white but no one ever talks about that. But that's exactly it: no one talks about the half white part because when anyone sees him, they think black. I suppose if anyone wanted to split hairs about it, it could be said that Obama looks "blacker" and married a woman identified as black, whereas Kamala Harris looks less "black" and married a man people identify as white. But in the end, Kamala will be identified as black more than Asian, because America is obsessed with blackness and whiteness over anything else, for historical reasons nobody needs to be reminded of. And the more Trump, Vance, and the surrogates hammer this ultimately pointless point, the more it's going to fire up people who are seen as unambiguously black to rally around Kamala and show up on Election Day. And bonus: because of the racist focus on her in the first place, it's going to also fire up most people of color of all backgrounds to rally around her and vote, too. And bonus bonus: practically no white people who are strongly inclined to vote Democrat anyway are going to peel off from her just because they are reminded of her non-whiteness. If anything, they're going to be extra motivated to make sure they get their vote in, because **** Trump and the Trumpublicans for focusing on this **** in the first place. And if all this keeps up for the next three-plus months, in the end, that means Kamala is probably going to wipe the floor with Trump, and bring the House and maybe the Senate with her. I think as of today, things are looking really, really good.

  12. I just saw a good Harris commercial. She used powerful imagery of her as VP. Behind a podium with the seal. Talking to people. Showed a sluggish Trump looking disheveled and old and tired. It hit me what a unique position she is in. Maybe unprecedented, definitely so in modern times. She gets to run an incumbent campaign as VP without baggage. Traditionally if a VP gets a nomination it’s after a bit of a primary fight. Then you have to deal with fatigue, even in the best of situations. Nixon had no help from Ike, in fact Ike hurt him with his “give me some time and I will think of something” like when asked what Nixon contributed. Humphrey had to distance himself. Bush was in the best shape but had a bitter primary. Gore was boring and had Clinton’s scandal to deal with. Harris doesn’t have any of that. This worked out perfectly for her. She can look like a president while campaigning because outside of a few cosmetic differences it’s the same. The big plane. The massive secret service detail. The seal. And we aren’t asking her to continue on with years 9-12 of an existing admin. She is a refresh after 4 years of something that’s been prettt popular. We had a 2007 Ford Focus get us to our vacation spot and now we can exchange that for a 2025 Mustang to get us home.

  13. My only take on the rest of this season is this: Can we please just bring up Jung and then just let the kids play all/most games. If I’m gonna watch this team whimper down the stretch, I at least want to watch players that I have interest in for the future. I don’t need to see Urshela, McKinstry and Madris play every day. I get that the pitching is what it is, but positionally let’s just go all in on them.

  14. Regarding Leyland's run, while it is true they never won 100 or a WS, I believe the Tigers had the best overall W-L record from 2006-2014. I've been a fan since Campy threw his bat at Lagrow and endured several rebuilds. Imho that stretch from 2006-2014 was an elite stretch. Every season I felt they had a chance to win it all. Damn Big Papi!

  21. hard to follow but sounds like Hinch is an idiot (and a loser) because he does not have non-existent all-stars hitting behind Madris even though all know he is too good a hitter to not be protected, and Hinch and Harris are actually hoping one of their players fails; is that correct? That's an Ignore.

  23. DD could have been forgiven for trading prospects if he had done the companion work to get the scouting, drafting, and development science deployed to the minor league system so that the Tigers' pipeline would replenish after his trades. It wasn't the trades themselves as much as his lack of attention to the development end. The system didn't have to be barren just because he had traded a few guys.

  25. Today's events has to have Trump fuming. Nobody is talking about yesterday's Trump Show. JVL has a good description of Trump's approach. He's taking a page out of Pro Wrestling and is playing the heel. It's what he is and what he does best. Yesterday's "interview"with Black Journalists is what is called cheap heat. Trump has been playing second fiddle in the news reports the last couple of weeks. Between the Biden drama, Ms Harris' ascent in the Presidential race and JD and his cat ladies remarks, Trump was not the center of the political world and he hates it. Probably more so today with the Russian prisoner swap. https://open.substack.com/pub/thebulwark/p/donald-trumps-cheap-heat?r=45wcm&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email

  27. The Royals are an example of what can happen for a team like them or the Tigers when everything goes right. They have Witt putting up an all time great season, 100 yr old Sal Perez hitting better than he did in his prime, Seth Lugo pitching like prime Maddux along with a host of other things. Because of all those things they very well may be looking at the playoffs instead of being sellers like us.

  29. I give fans a pass for bitching about this since they generally don't know much about the game. But watching Windy complain that Bam isn't the one being benched is hilarious. Yeah, lets bench the best defensive center on earth. The guy who can switch 1-5 no problem. Who would need that? Maybe I'm the fool for thinking journalists should know a little about the game they cover.

  32. i get the impression sparky was viewed as ahead of his time vis a vis bullpen usage. leyland was great at controlling the clubhouse and keeping players happy. that's a really good skill. but in game? lineups? pitching management? not the best, imo. and those tigers teams underachieved other than 2006, that group overachieved.

  36. Not only did they never win a WS (which can be forgiven) they never won 100 games or were considered the best team in baseball in any particular year. Those were fun years, but, in retrospect, the results were a bit underwhelming.

  38. One thing I'd like to see Harris do in the next 12 months is secure at least one fire-breathing back-of-the-bullpen guy, whether via trade, waivers, Rule 5 pickup, MiLB contract, or development. That is one component without which you cannot win the 2025 game.

  39. I'm not sure I follow the flaw in asking for too much and waiting until the end. Are you supposed to ask for less up front and hope they offer more? I don't buy any reporting that's out there, at least not from the Tigers side. They don't leak and I refuse to believe our beat writers have any inside knowledge. They're just as in the dark as we are. The thing with the Yankees came from them to save face, a real bush league move if you ask me.

  40. Conservative economists used to love to point to the Kennedy cuts, but marginal rates were in the 80-90% range then, that's a very different environment. Everything in economics is relative. Not all comparisons drawn are actually comparable. Knowing the difference matters. A couple of years ago, lots of smart people were convinced that interest rates going to 5% were going to crash the economy. They were wrong because they were looking at previous times rates had gone up by that percentage like in the 80's when they hit double digits - but that's the wrong comparison. They were ignoring that the 5% increase was starting from zero and investment decisions are not made based on how much interest rates have changed, but on their absolute value, and at 5% lots of potential investments were still profitable enough to keep the economy perking.
