Montero, Sammons, Hurter are currently doing just that. The Tigers aren’t below.500 because of pitching injuries. The games they’ve lost have been much more from offense struggles than pitching. And the fact that they are playing as well as they are now is a testament to somehow getting reasonable pitching from guys who weren’t expected to be called upon.4 points

According to my weather app, there’s rain in the forecast for all three games so I’m going to expect a lot of driveway updates from you people in the Detroit metro area.3 points

Literally - from an independent league. Guy had always walked too many, but he's only given up 4 passes in 18.2 so far with the Tigers.3 points

We’ll always remember this as the Sunk Cost win, when both Maeda and Baez came through.2 points

The Tigers' issues with injuries come from the fact that the depth got hurt this year. Manning, Flores, SGL, Leonard, Kreidler, etc. That isn't going to be factored into the Fangraphs analysis.2 points

Glad they’re ending the linebacker experiment. Just let him be a situational pass rusher. That’s still really good value for a 6th round pick.2 points

The drama going on in Cincinnati with JaMarr Chase and Dallas with CeeDee Lamb makes me appreciate Holmes even more. He got it done with ASB. It was easy. You can always question the timing, but he got it done before Justin Jefferson or either of these guys, and now both of these guys want to reset the market and are in a game of chicken with their team with the season on the horizon. You can even throw in San Francisco with Aiyuk. No drama in Allen Park, just all ball.2 points

This has been two extremely satisfying nights in a row. Tomorrow’s a day game and a bullpen game - again - from what I can tell. I don’t know how long they can keep this up. I think we expected to be smothered after the trade deadline but we’re 6-4 in the last 10 games and even split a West Coast road series. This ugly dog has some teeth. They’re actually pretty darn entertaining.2 points

Maeda talking after the game about adjustments being made to improve velocity on all of his pitches and it seems to be paying off lately.1 point

When we pitch like this, a little offense is all we need. We only gave up 1 hit and 5 walks. 4 of those walks came in the 1st inning.1 point

The fact that the GOP is spending such an inordinate amount of time going after Tim Walz really demonstrates how much they are struggling in figuring out how to deal with Harris IMO.1 point

A combined 1 hitter. We're 5-1 against a team that's fighting for their playoff lives. Amazing...1 point

This is almost good luck of biblical proportions, which is scary because there’s a lot of bad luck biblical proportion too, but still really awesome.1 point

If they can stay healthy, big if, a line-up that includes Carp, Greene and Keith could start to resemble an actual decent MLB offense. I also like Malloy's potential to be an .800+ ops guy, but as a dh. He has excellent plate discipline and can drive the ball to all fields. Hopefully the years of having a AAAA offense are coming to a close. Then Jung, Clark etc should be ready the next few years1 point

I wouldn’t be surprised if that judge and court gets some heat over this. I saw the story when it aired and was half paying attention. I thought she was a defendant. The handcuffs thing is problematic for me. That’s physical restraint. The judge doesn’t know this girls situation. Maybe she is on meds. She didn’t commit any crime.1 point

Yes. I believe his thinking rests with starting them against the bottom part of the lineup in hopes of them getting in a groove.1 point

They have been getting most of those innings from Sammons, Maeda and Hurter, they just haven't started. I think Hinch figures if he doesn't announce who the starter is, teams have to prepare for multiple possibilities. So far, it's working.1 point

Consistent with the Harris philosophy of controlling the strike zone on both sides of the ball. You do that by your pitchers not issuing walks—Tiger pitchers are 4th in MLB at that—and your hitters to draw walks—Tiger hitters are 23rd there. The main thing you need to make that work is to get the right players who can do these things. We seem to be able to find pitchers who can do their thing. Now we have to find more hitters who can do their thing. It makes sense that pitching would come around first because it’s a pitcher’s game these days.1 point
