  1. I try to stay far away from political discussions, but apparently this was a Charlie Kirk quote: "I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights" - Charlie Kirk, 2023 If that was his stance, then his own death was worth it to himself. As I see it, the killing of my friend Brian (estrepe1) was not worth it. I’d rather have very tight gun control and have my friend back, among many many others.

  2. I don't like Charlie Kirk, nor his viewpoints on issues. I disagree with him on just about every viewpoint he's taken, including his stated views on gun ownership and gun rights in the wake of mass shootings. All that being said, violence against other human beings is morally repugnant, deeply troubling, and wrong in every way. Political violence and targeting people for their political viewpoints is even worse as it attempts to intimidate and silence people simply for who they are and holding the opinions they do. The rise in political violence and violent acts in this country is deeply disturbing. If we can't do anything else, can we at least come together to denounce violence and political violence against our fellow human beings? I'd sure like to think so. I certainly hope that Charlie Kirk survives this attack, from whatever scumbag of a person did this. I may not agree with anything the man has to say and find a lot of his viewpoints repulsive. However, I certainly condemn the violent act used against him today and hope that he makes a full recovery.

  3. I have an agreement with 7 big Italian dudes who will wear nice suits and pinkie rings to show up at my funeral. I also gave them envelopes of cash to give to my wife and kids with instructions to say "this was his take this week... we never got a chance to kick it up to him. He was a good boss."

  6. when a Registered Republican "shot" Trump in Bulter, PA, MAGA f***tards said "the left" was trying to kill him. it does not matter who killed Kirk (but 200 yards? sounds like a 2nd Amendment patriot to me), MAGA f***tards have already decided it is "the left" and any facts to the contrary will be fake news it is irrelevant if people celebrate this or condemn this; MAGA f***tards have their marching orders already

  9. Remember how the right treated the two democrats that were shot in Minnesota? One of them dying? Then Trump saying he wouldn't call the governor because he was a wacko? Remember how the right joked about Pelosi's husband being attacked?

  37. Even before Trump was elected, Paul Krugman wrote a piece about the maximum likely effects of Tariffs and the proportions of the economy dependent on import/export and he basically said the same thing - a tariff regime would be counter-productive but not likely the end of the world. Of course what nobody anticipated was that it would not only be tariffs but pure chaos, and the chaos is probably having at least as much deleterious effect on the economy as the tariffs themselves. Plus the thing this all misses is that tariffs do have an outsize effect on consumer's sense of inflation because other than food, a ton of consumer shopping is for imported goods. And as the Biden admin found out, it doesn't matter what the inflation number really is, all that matters is how it feels to voters. And that not only has the obvious political fallout but also, to the degree it reduces consumer confidence, a slowdown can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
