If you missed the 60's you really don't have any idea how bad the environment was before the clean-up started. That's a bit of a revision on Smith. Smith actually performed very well for us and was one of the highest rated players traded at the deadline. They actually went out and got the best available player at edge.

Wow, I did not know that. My family has a connection to him. My father's friend Eddie "Bucky" Boehm (you can look him up on b-ref) played with Shantz in the minors in 1948 and they became lifetime friends. Shantz owned some really nice rental houses in Lakeland and he sometimes let Bucky use them when he wasn't doing anything with them. One of them happened to be available the weekend my father, mother (the only time she joined the boys on a Lakeland trip!) and I were heading to Lakeland, so Bucky passed it on to us. It was the nicest vacation housing I every stayed at. That was a good thing because I doubt my mom would have liked Lakeland much otherwise!.

Cautionary tale. There was a time that the Dodgers had a #1 prospect young outfielder everyone was salivating over. Boston finally pried him loose in return for Mokie Betts. Since the trade, Betts has put up another 32 WAR, Alex Verdugo has produced 8.6 and doesn't seem to have much left at only 29 (Jeter Downs didn't produce any). It's *really* hard to match any young player(s) to a superstar. You just never know ⚠️

I think a fanbase that for years had to put up with Nick "Lindstrom" is patient enough to get over Olson vs Olsen. Nobody died.

The problem with spending 20 million on the bullpen is you don't know which relievers are going to good from year to year.

If you trade Mize, you need to sign 2 free agents. I am not so sure they lose Mize. That would put us down 2 starters if you include Flaherty. You have to have someone replace those victories and innings. I do not have confidence in Harris paying 2 quality free agents.
