I think i might have mentioned the purchase of the King Abdullah Academy here in NOVA. Fairfax County Public Schools recently asked for names and I put Jamal Kashoggi HS as my first choice. Trump likes the guy who had Kashoggi cut up.5 points

I get the idea, but I think you are being idealistic. If the Dems had it as program plank and then introduced any such thing in a GOP state, the GOP would immediately amend the proposal in to an effective suppression format and the Dems would be left holding the bag politically. I think that is the much more probable political reality. And in any case, the idea that lack of state ID is holding back people from accessing services (other than voting) is a presumption not actually in evidence. I've yet to hear any chorus from county social workers that they are being impeded in their work by lack of client documentation. This is about voting, and I'll stand with the all the arg's above that state ID for voting is a red herring that Dems have no good reason to get behind.3 points

So the DFA window is 7 days, and the non-tender day is Friday. DFA doesn't mean a player has been placed on waivers. In Foley's case, he is also injured and literally per the rules cannot be outrighted (there is a small window where he can that ended yesterday), so he will not be going through waivers. He is a certain non-tender. Ditto Guenther. Rainey as well because you can't outright a player added after Aug 15.3 points

I remember back on October 2, just before Game 3 of the ALWC, MLB radio talked to Jason Foley about the Tigers, the state of the team, how everyone was feeling, etc., and two things came to mind: (1) Odd choice—he didn't even pitch for us all year, so how would he know?; (2) He sounded like a dead man walking on the broadcast. No energy at all.1 point

When I looked at it using academic research in college in the mid 2000's, so much was tied to synchronization where an inefficient motion could increase the momentary spike.1 point

Yup. We've talked about it before, the fans tend to be very short horizon, what the schools realize that fans don't is that you put together one conference of all the perennial top 20 teams, half of them will start losing half their games, and I don't think that's an appealing future for a Michigan or a Clemson. In the heyday of the Yankees being the Yankees, was when the Senators were being the Senators. Someone has to willing the be the Northwesterns of a new super league and I don't imagine any one is.1 point

If anything I would say bigger pitchers are more susceptible, just given longer moment arms and the biomechanics of it all. All of that is likely in the weeds, though. Diet, exercise, and genetics are tough to control for in a study and likely are your main drivers.1 point

i know pre season means nothing but when i saw the leafs play all i could think of was that they looked slow without marner. dude is really good. i am unimpressed with toronto.1 point

get rid of one of the best players in the league, rely more heavily on an aging defense and a flash-in-the-pan no name goalie = stanley cup. gotta love leafs fans.1 point

Mommy, when I grow up I want to be a crass, no-class jerk, so I can be President!1 point

I have asked that question many times about both pitchers and hitters. Big people tend to be stronger, but I feel as if they are just as likely or even more likely to get injured. They have to carry around more weight than a smaller person which I think would create more force in every movement and puts greater stress on their bones and joints.1 point

We spent a delightful day in Caruacao this Spring as part of a cruise package. They are proud of their collection of baseball major leaguers. Andruw Jones, Ozzie Allies, Kenley Jensen, Jonathan Schoop, Jurickson Profar among others. Also one of my favorite descriptive salutations comes from there. Dushi....as in everything is Dushi1 point

With players of this caliber returning to a defense that is fifth best in YPG allowed and tenth in PPG allowed, hopefully we can get back to more splash plays defensively that shorten the field for the offense.1 point

Maybe if you didn't have half the people on this board on ignore you would know AI has been talked about in this thread going back at least 10 pages. Try to keep up Gomer.1 point

I liked it more when we won 10 in a row, but I'll forgive them if we can win just four in a row in January and February1 point

I feel like AI shenanigans deserve their own thread. There is just so much of this stuff out there about its failings and people overweighting it as the next step in our evolution.1 point

Curacao just became the smallest nation ever to qualify for the World Cup. Their country has less people than Grand Rapids.1 point

2nd of back to back and on the road, vs a team 8-2 in its last 10. Very nice win! And they'll have Ivey back soon. At this time 2 years ago they were in the midst of a 28 game losing streak.1 point

This is not particularly encouraging. Does this include the Kansas City Athletics and the Kansas City Royals?1 point

its an incredibly bad deal. it undervalues the product. it is a payday loan. michigan is right. this should be the canary in the coalmine for college sports. if the big ten - the biggest and richest conference in america - cannot reliably make a profit under the current system, then the current system is not sustainable.1 point

Bro, you still don't accept that Trump signed Epstein's birthday book so spare me your attempts at trying to connect Jeffries to Trump's buddy.1 point

You just posted a bit ago regarding accepting and not accepting facts and here you are repeating nonsense that distorts the truth. Jeffries did not solicit anything from Epstein and neither did his campaign. A firm working on behalf of his campaign sent the email. There is no indication that it was directed by Jeffries or his campaign.1 point

Another blah game from Holland. Cade with a couple of key hoops down the stretch to ice it. Thompson was big on defense at the end1 point

Scotland will be at the World Cup in 2026. First time since 1998. Two injury time goals today to win 4-2. A draw would not have been enough. https://x.com/bettyglover_/status/1990901757711392836?s=61&t=don8lQTnTq5FKXq14p2GMw https://x.com/kdcunliffe/status/1990901958157148672?s=61&t=don8lQTnTq5FKXq14p2GMw1 point
