  1. One positive from this? This isn't the Red Wings where you can cross check our captain in the neck and skate away like nothing happened. You run at our top guys..you're going to pay. Duren stepped up for Stew awhile ago and now Stew is throwing hands for JD. Circumstances could be better..but it' good to know we have a team. A team that's kinda melding the Go To Work identity with the Bad Boys identity.

  2. My mom had advanced dementia for 9 years and my dad had heart failure for 17 years (although he did remarkably well and didn't suffer a lot). I was in charge of their health care, especially for the last 9 years. My mom was in a rehab place for a few months and was mostly neglected, so I pulled her out of there and took her home and vowed to never ley her go to another home. The agency home health aides were ridiculously expensive (and the aides were not getting much of that money! It was all "administrative cots"), so I decided I would handle their health care privately and cheaply and at home where my parents would feel comfortable. Since I was still working full-time, I hired live-in home health aides from Africa and Haiti for about 65k per year which is actually dirt cheap for dementia care where I live. Dealing with aides was annoying and stressful, but they took better care of my mom than she would have gotten in a home. I took care of my dad as best as I could. This whole experience was the most stressful thing I have ever been through, but I am so glad I kept them out of homes and let them live their final years with some dignity. It's also really good that I can live the rest of my life without guilt (at least not from that!) and know that I did my best.

  3. My sister died the first week of September, 2017. The last thing we talked about was Verlander being traded. She didn't like it obviously. She was going into hospice and communication was tough at that point. I thought about that just now after seeing a photo of him in camp in a Tiger uniform.

  4. I am excited to see what Verlander can do, but he could just as easily be the next Charlie Morton as be the hometown hero making his grand exit. I'd be happy if he's a good five inning fifth starter with occasional flashes of his old self.

  7. Glad it wasn't more games for Stew, but 7 still hurts the team a ton. This is the toughest part of their schedule down the stretch where you want to keep your lead in the East. But, I guess it's fitting for the team that likes to give up leads and win tough games down the stretch. Looks like they'll be trying to do the same thing with their playoff standings. I would've given Bridges 6 games. One less than Stew who gets the extra one for coming off the bench. This fight doesn't get escalated without Bridges. He immediately jumped into a 2 man fight and shoved Duren. Then he ran around the crowd after Diabate was restrained and it could have been over in order to take a closed fist swing at Duren who was walking away, which is what set Stew off. Maybe I'm biased because a guy who beats his wife into the hospital should no longer have the privilege to play in the NBA, but I also feel like he was the one who took this thing from a 3 to a 10. I thought Duren should've been just 1 game, but the league needs the Knicks to win a national TV game against us, so why not toss an extra one in there.

  10. Home opener should be close to a sell out regardless of pitcher. If JV pitches game 2 of the series, the Tigers could start the season with 2 sold out games.

  13. I’m very excited for Verlander to be back, but if we’re being honest, Reese is probably a better pitcher at this point in their careers.

  17. Well, that was a fun game to be at. I was 4 rows back, at about the free throw line, right where the initial skirmish was happening. I was at the Malice at the Palace as well, so maybe it's me? This game was starting to boil long before that though. There was a sequence earlier with Tobias and Bridges going back and forth for a pretty long time having heated words right there at the three point line in front of me. Couldn't hear what they were saying, but it wasn't pleasant.

  20. I guess to me JV's always been THE GUY in my relatively short (compared to most of you guys) Tiger fandom. A Virginia kid, went to ODU, always seems down to earth (even with Kate)

  21. Wall Street knows the numbers. There are other ways to figure them out. This guy touches on it in his article today; BLS Revises Nonfarm Payrolls for 2025 Lower by 1 Million Jobs FTA: A big Wall Street bank analyst makes more money than the CEO's of the companies he covers, or sector. The ARE the smartest guys in the room and have data we don't. They don't get fooled. The rest is up for debate for us serfs. It's been like this since forever.

  23. The most important part of today’s report were the 2025 revisions. 584,000 jobs gained were reported for the year. The revisions today has it at 181,000. 403,00 jobs that were reported but never existed That is a misstatement by 69% What’s scarier is that sinceI don’t trust these numbers, it’s probably much, much worse. Either way, why does our financial system continue to put trust in these numbers. Who would put trust and use an indicator that had only 30% accuracy? This is insane but then again these markets have always been rigged. This is yet another tool meant to confuse and deceive.

  24. Yes but... at what potential risk? Obviously it's gonna REALLY depend on the situation. Like let's pretend that Joseph's condition is so bad he can't play anymore... he's 25 right now and potentially could make many millions more if he got back to even 90% of what he was. We'll, then it's probably worth the risk of trying something not fully tested because it's not like he's got any NFL career left in our senario. But what he can still play, just may not quite as well as he was? Maybe he's down to 80% of his peak. He's still gonna make a LOT of money... not as much as 90 or 100% Joseph, but still a LOT. If he risks an untested procedure he might get back to 90 or 100% and make even more... or it might fail he goes down to 40 or 50% Joseph and ends up not being good enough to stay in the NFL. So yeah, it'll massively depend on the individual and their current condition. Now, having said that I read through the article that @gehringer_2 linked above and there's mention of some early phase clinical trials already underway with, I'm assuming, humans given that it references volunteers and lab animals don't generally volunteer. So I might be way off on how close this is to the market. Completely outside of the world of sports... I'm SUPER excited about this news as someone who already has some joint pain issues and some arthritis problems.

  25. Exactly! It could be part of the grander strategy, and I'm not even kidding about that one. Better to be thought incompetent to cover up their criminality than to be thought criminal when they are merely incompetent. Incompetent people are routinely underestimated and never taken seriously.

  26. I think that’s because there are no more RSNs and their local advertisers to protect. Since MLB.tv will now be the exclusive broadcaster, neither part of the equation needs protection.

  27. I wasn’t trying to tell you you’re wrong for your feelings, and I apologize for it coming off that way. I was trying to draw a parallel between situations in which players end up on teams that are trying to make your team lose.

  38. Another thought, all these rule changes and tweaks have just made tanking worse. if a team could tank and get a superstar, they would get better and gradually rise in the standings. but when you tweak the lottery and the worst teams keep getting screwed (like the pistons did), they keep being mired in that desperate attempt to get a superstar player. ultimately, as long as there is a draft and no relegation there will be tanking.
