Is this the right time to comment as if we know better than Brad as to what moves the Lions should be making?

Well... yeah kinda.  It's a message board, not a court of law where things need to vetted. Obviously there's always a caveat in these sort of statements pending further developments. But dang... I would have done that trade all day long!

The NFC is never, in all likelihood, going to be a worse conference than it is now. The same thing with the NFC North as a division. It has a bevy of teams of are bottom feeders or very mediocre. There are what, 2-3 very good QBs at most in the NFC, with Goff, Prescott, Hurts, and maybe, maybe Geno Smith. Our schedule down the stretch will never be easier than it is now either. I feel like we should be taking advantage of that by making a move of some significance on defense.

It is a head scratcher. As @MIguy correctly points out, we don't have all the details. But it sure seems odd based on what details we do have. It's possible that the Lions brain trust thinks Young is a potential locker room liability. It's possible that that something weird happened with the Commander just agreeing to a 3rd round this time without even talking to other teams (seems unlikely). I dunno... I'm disappointed I guess more than angry. I just don't understanding this. I feel the same way after the Erod non-trade this summer.

As an Edmonton Oilers fan, this meme frustrates me because I've been living this for the last 4 years with exactly zero Conference Finals wins in McDavid and Draisaitl's prime but I digress.

I'm getting a little hint of this from Holmes and Campbell as well. "We like our guys" "The Answer is in the room" "Has to be a culture fit" etc.  They're doing well so far but I wonder if this mentality puts a cap on their upside.

Lions are expecting James Houston to return...

And I think they like Julian Okwara at this point, as a pass-rush specialist...

Don't know if they were factoring that in...

Just sayin'...

None of us know what they actually think or how they feel. That likely won't ever come out. However, I think this is the answer I believe the most as well. I mocked Brad Holmes for being Ken Holland with the whole "we like our team and the player we have here" approach he took today. I agree with what you're saying here though in that they feel confident and comfortable with who they have now and who will be returning later on today.

tater throwing a gm under the bus is like the first snowfall of the season: its an annual event that always happens no matter how much you wish it wouldnt.

i have heard scuttlebutt on young that he's a selfish player and just looks for sacks instead of following the plan.  that's sports radio talk so i have no idea if its true.  its possible the lions value a 3rd round pick more than the niners do.

give what little knowledge i have on football and the fact that i know young's name and history, i probably would have made that trade.  but the lions might be looking for different things from their defensive ends (like assignment integrity) and thought young is too much of an injury risk.

or its possible they like the ends they have now.

I don't mind hearing "we like out team" from a GM as long as his team is better than it was last year. When it's getting worse each for several in a row, not so much.

Ultimately, while Holmes has not been perfect, he hasn’t given us reason to doubt him. He’s masterfully turned complete garbage into gold in just over two years.

I would rather us stand pat than add the wrong piece, and if that’s the way he saw it, so be it. I do think we are still good enough to beat any team on any given Sunday.
