He'd still caucus with the dems.  That said, I don't think it's happening.  I think it's a political ploy that will allow him to back some version of the BBB bill at some number between 1.7 and the 3.whatever,  while showing a 'I'm very concerned about the debt' that a good portion of his state apparently cares about again.

Exactly.

The framing of Manchin's views tend to be dominated by the left of the Democratic Party, who tend to call him a conservative or Republican-lite or things like that, almost to the point of it being kind of the built in assumption on his views.

But at the end of the day, while he does fall to the right of the AOC wing and maybe doesn't desire the same level of expenditure that they do, when you look at the guy's voting record, he's just not anywhere near being a Republican. And he's made it pretty clear a number of times over the years that he doesn't like Mitch and the GOP.

Setting aside that politically it would be dumb for him to switch parties now (especially given his Senate Energy Committee Chairmanship as well as his strong hand in negotiations on infrastructure), I just don't think the philosophical alignment is there. And while he can be a frustrating guy at times, I don't think he's unprincipled enough to throw out his beliefs to switch parties.... if he were, he probably would have done it during the Trump Presidency.

I'm surprised this has been brought up here, but Merrick Garland testified in a house committee yesterday.  Rep. Chip Roy questioned him on domestics terrorist parents and things happening in the Louden Country High School.  I'm not a fan of Mitch McConnell but he should be thanked daily for keeping Garland off the Supreme Court.  Obama said Garland was a moderate but he's a long way from a moderate and the AG office is more political now than it ever was under Trump.

Unlike one Clarence Thomas who just celebrated his 30th anniversary on the court in a celebration sponsored by the Heritage Foundation.

If that’s not political I’ve got a small yacht in Long Beach, CA for sale

WTF does that have to do with Merrick Garland?

Get out of here with that bullshit.

Chip Roy is a grandstanding fool who cares not about kids or rape but about being a bigot and blowhard. F him.

It's far from BS.  Roy is asking questions that Garland is pleading ignorance on or refusing to answer.  You should be very concerned about what the Biden Administration and DOJ are doing.  They are investigating, or targeting is a better word, parents who question a school board because a union and the Biden Administration asked them to.  What happened to parent in Louden whos daughter was raped in school is inexcusable not to mention everything that has gone down with covering up the crime because it doesn't fit the liberal agenda.

"question a school board"

That's where you are wrong.  Members of boards have had death threats and been chased around in parking lots by psycho anti vax mobs and other like minded idiots regarding other topics.

Guess you are ok with that.  Once again a failed equivalency.   Sensing a trend.

What did the father of the student who was raped do to be targeted?  The letter that Biden received (and given to Garland) from the union called him out specifically yet Garland denied to Rep. Roy of having knowledge of it.  I guess in the liberal world a father isn't allowed to be upset about what happened to his daughter and should be happy to see it swept under a rug to promote the democrat agenda.  If you think this is acceptable you must not be a father, especially of a daughter. The father was even required to spend 10 days in jail for disturbing the peace. The Prosecutor was Buta Biberaj who's campaign was funded by Soros.  This entire thing is a liberal circus targeting families concerned about their children.

archie, anything that goes in front of a special committee is political grandstanding.  and chip roy is doing nothing but political grandstanding.

likewise, the doj going after parents "protesting" at school board meetings is also political grandstanding.

its politics.  that's what they do.

even a legitimate inquiry, like the 9/11 commission or the january 6 commission will devolve into political grandstanding.  most politicians are trashy click bait specialists who are there to get elected and do their donors' bidding.

c'est la vie.

My point was the father was specifically mentioned in the unions letter and Garland denies any knowledge.  My comments aren't so much in reference to Roy but to what Garland says or didn't acknowledge.

As far as labeling the father a terrorist and sending him to jail is an extremely low move and horrible.

the nsba has now withdrawn the letter it sent to the doj that started all this nonsense.

hopefully the doj does the smart thing and just drops this ridiculousness.

It would be the smart thing to do.  However, that they went along with this nonsense to begin which shows the playbook they are following.
