Not too surprised except that it came now. Unless Fox panicked and upped their offer. As I said I can’t blame dominion. Their responsibility is to themselves.  If you as a business sue for defamation then the resolution is a business resolution.   It’s not their job to fix the political media landscape. (I stole that sentence from twitter)

The jury had been selected and sworn in.

I think the Fox lawyers must have assessed the jury and said “we can’t go to trial”, and then upped their settlement offer big time.

I agree that Dominion lawyers should have only been looking out for their client’s interest, and it absolutely wasn’t their job to go forward and risk defeat (because you can never be 100% sure what a jury will do).

I understand Dominion did what they thought was best for themselves and the company. I just hate that they did it, is all. I wanted to see Fox shamed Cersei Lannister-style.

Yeah. For sure we all wanted to pull out our giant bag of popcorn & watch some sweat-stained witnesses on the stand. 😂

No apology, no on air statements necessary.  One could only hope that they would need to trip two or three top salaried employees, but that won’t happen either.

Stockholders will get screwed however

It's driving me a little crazy that some of the early assessments of the settlement are that Fox had to admit in their statement that they lied about Dominion on their programs, even though they don't have to admit that on air, and that's still pure shame on them. But is it really?

"We are pleased to have reached a settlement of our dispute with Dominion Voting Systems. We acknowledge the Court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false," Fox News Corp. said in a statement.

That doesn't look to me like them saying "we lied." That looks to me like them saying, "Well, the judge says that some of what we claimed is false, and yeah, sure, we acknowledge he said that." Definitely not the same. And nobody who watches Fox will hear boo about this, except in the sense that the woke libtard justice system is out of control and needs to be reformed.

Yeah, but, even if it had gone to trial, the fox viewer was never going to get this story any other way but slanted if he continued to watch Fox during the trial.

Yep. This.  No result would have given us what we wanted.  A verdict against Fox with all kinds of embarrassing testimony could have occurred and they wouldn’t lose a single viewer.  We all know the truth and testimony isn’t needed to confirm it.  Fox was never going to be bankrupted or hosts fired.

My recollection is that Dominion also sued Rudi Colludy and Sidney Powell for 1.6b each as well.   Neither of them will have the capacity to settle at 857m.

and newsmax and OAN.  Those are the ones who can be "Gawker-ed"

I never watched Newsmax or OAN, but my understanding is they 'led' this charge, Fox News just followed along.  I don't see any end for them but being "Gawker-ed".

This gives me some hope.  This is from the front page of Drudge...so I don't know the ultimate source of this data.  The Muir ABC broadcast is the closest thing to a straight news broadcast I know of right now.  They still do the heartwarming, puppies-who-have-returning-veteran-owners or veterans-who-get-to-see-their-long lost...[insert whatever noun] stories at the end of the broadcast which is just dumb dead air to me.

It's also a reminder of how few Americans actually watch any of these cable shows
