If we grab Hayward and let's say pick 13 from Charlotte, then this immediately becomes a really good move. Grant for: Pick #13 mid-20s 2025 1st round pick 36 instead of 47 in this year's draft Hayward 2026 2nd round pick Is a solid haul.2 points

But this is what I was afraid of. The discussion about the quality of the police response it a total misdirection from the real problem, which was the shooter being there armed the was he was in the first place. The police may have made it much worse, but fundamentally the situation was lost before they ever got there - that is what needs to be fixed.2 points

No I'm glad AJ is pushing him up there. I'd rather he get acclimated to where he should be in the lineup - and I think AJ should be doing the same thing with Tork like, right now - and go through his ups and downs. Especially this year. Here's your spot... figure it out.1 point

My first reaction to this trade isn't favorable, but if you told me that no other teams were going to give us anything and it was this or sign Grant to a 4/120M deal, I suppose I'd take this. Very curious to see what is done with this cap space. I really don't want another Charlie V + Ben Gordon offseason where we overpay for a bunch of middling players just because we have the money and it's a weak free agent class. And yes, I'm talking about Ayton (max), Bridges (max), Brunson 25+M), or Sexton (20+M) - none of them are worth those contracts.1 point

Rumors are that Charlotte want's to send out Hayward for cap space. They are willing to attach picks to him and hold the #13 and #15 pick this year. The Pistons now have the cap space to do it without sending anything to Charlotte if they so desire.1 point

rosenthal on Avila. "Avila concluded by saying, “We’re all obviously working hard to turn this around. And we will.” Rival executives, however, question whether Avila is creative and savvy enough to build a consistent winner.... But with Báez, the Tigers banked on a hitter notorious for his lack of plate discipline. With Rodríguez, they bet on a pitcher who never had led a rotation. And while hitters such as Jonathan Schoop, Jeimer Candelario and Robbie Grossman inexplicably have cratered, the Tigers also are haunted by past blunders. Among them: • Meager returns in trades for Justin Verlander, Nick Castellanos and J.D. Martinez, compounded by failures to move pitchers such as Michael Fulmer and Matthew Boyd when their values were highest. • A drought of homegrown position players that predates Avila’s hiring as GM in Aug. 2015, but might be on the verge of ending with the arrivals of two top-five picks, first baseman Spencer Torkelson and center fielder Riley Greene. • An international program that, while showing signs of improvement, has produced only one positive WAR player, closer Gregory Soto, since the trade of Willy Adames in 2014." alright, which one of you has been talking to rosenthal? chas? while he criticizes Al, he's actually too nice to him for my liking. go for the juggular Kenny!1 point

The Athletic hit on Al Avila being written by Ken Rosenthal was 1000% done so that junior guy Cody Stavenhagen didn't lose his access.1 point

The rot in the Republican Party runs deep. The fact that Bowers would STILL vote for him again after that testimony, shows he’s no hero. He’s just as much a coward as the rest of the party. Not a big surprise there.1 point

I’m somewhat shocked to have read in an article this morning (can’t find it now, but will continue looking), that Mr. Bowers opinion,….. even after that gut-wrenching testimony yesterday, …. is that if Trump were to run again in 2024, he would, in fact, vote for him over Biden. How do you even process that?1 point

Phish is the epitome of a jam band which means they can bust into a 32 minute song to open a set out of the blue. I get how many people don’t dig on that. The core fanbase is odd and weirdly entitled and obnoxious. I definitely get how people don’t dig that. They are absolutely an acquired taste but once you catch the bug, it’s hard to let go. This band amazingly talented and Trey is one of the best guitar players alive. The live experience is unlike any other and I am still amazed they play each show without an actual set list. Trey calls them out they as they go. August 3rd at Pine Knob is their first Detroit stop in 8 years. It might be the last time here, who knows.1 point

yeah really. 160 pts is a big drop in OPS to just happen out of the blue. So here's what I don't get with Tucker. Last season he only hit LH, and he had a zero platoon split. This season he is switch hitting but his LH numbers have gone down despite not facing LHP as a LHH, and he is hitting LHP as RHH worse than than he did last year as a LHH. Not to mention, that when he SH in 2019 he was also terrible as a RHB. So why haven't the Tigers talked him into dropping trying to hit RH? If you are scuffling it's a lot easier to work on your problems from just one side. This is the same question I had with Goodrum. Is the Tiger FO so enamored of SH in theory that they ignore when it's not working in practice? Or can't Coolbaugh persuade any of his hitters to do the obvious to help themselves?1 point

If you like that story, you'll love this: Trayce Thompson was slashing .299/.352/.639 in Toledo, good for a .416 wOBA and 153 wRC+ with eight home runs and seven doubles in just 97 at bats. We just sold him to the Dodgers for "cash considerations". Just like Lavarnway. Anyone still think "the rebuild is over" and that we are trying to stockpile talent?1 point

To be fair to Chevron, at least they provided a plan to deal with this. What has Biden done? And please don't embarrass yourself by mentioning the release of a drop in the bucket's worth of oil reserves. I'm not saying the right answer is to follow Chevron's plan, but I haven't seen anything from this administration to deal with this. Biden has been slow to react to this, just as he has been on most issues.1 point

after all these years calling those burnouts wooks is still pretty hilarious to me. such a great label1 point

yeah way back in the day, I'm talking like early 2000s they had a wookipedia where they were cataloging all of the serious hippies that were on phish tour and wook #17 was by far the most popular. I was on another mb that was all about taping shows and it was all the rage back then1 point

After reading some of Sam's guide about Ivey it makes me feel better about him if we do indeed draft him. I trust Sam's opinion so by him putting him in the top tier and saying that he believes he will be a capable outside shooter at the next level it does ease my concerns about that aspect of his game and in turn him as a player. I still think I'd rather have Murray or Mathurin just cause I love the potential immediate contribution they can bring and I feel that they offer a better combination of fit and floor than Ivey while also possessing enough upside to warrant the number 5 pick but after reading Sam's guide I would totally be fine if we do indeed end up with Jaden.1 point

You don't get to be the all time record holder for consecutive error-less games in the outfield (and any position) by taking chances. I think it was the right call by Baez even though it didn’t work out, Grossman is kind of a let-it-drop specialist IMO.1 point

Some guys focus on the last 90 at bats and nothing else. And salaries. Because thats even more important than the last 90 at bats. Which is more important than the last 900. Or the next 900.1 point

ideally, you want to suck in non-voters. The best thing that could happen out of a situation like this is that people who normally don't bother paying any attention to politics decide they need to start voting. I know - quite the pipe dream, but if you had to pick the most important target audience, it would be them.1 point

One more think. The buck doesn't stop with Trump. There are still many, many elected officials who are or might be in position to overthrow future elections. Democrats may moan and groan about results, Republicans are still complicit in attempting to overturn democracy.1 point
