Get the analytics staff, player dev staff, and new hitting coach together. If they are confident that Candelario can be fixed, hang onto him. If not, bye.

And him delivering on his "projections" is dubious.

I frequent this other Lions board and there are multiple posters there who are criticizing Campbell for not being aggressive at the end of the first half which I completely disagree with because the Lions hadn't scored a touchdown since the Lincoln administration and were missing all their top offensive weapons They also got on Campbell for not challenging the Brock Wright spot which I also completely disagree with because there's not much benefit moving the ball from the 1 to the 1/2 yard line and the major downside of the refs screwing up the review and costing Campbell his challenge for the rest of the game. I'm certainly no fan of a lot of Campbell's coaching decisions this season but these two just seem like a case of criticizing the guy because it's the cool thing to do now.

Yes and point well made but which is he is the question and he and the team was beyond terrible last year so I vote for a fresh look knowing it might be the wrong decision verses retaining him and knowing it could also be the wrong decision.

With all of the pitching injuries there is a huge range of possibilities performance wise with the starting rotation. If Turnbull, Skubal, and Manning pitch well at some point and ERod is still a mid rotation guy they could in a good place by the end of the year. Plus they have Jobe and Flores in the minors and Mize coming back in 2024. Or not. So spending on multi year deals doesn't make sense until they get some clarity. And then as Edman mentioned they have to go through Candelario, and every position player player on the roster, with the new hitting and analytics staffs and determine if there are any keepers, and at what cost. Get creative with value trades and low cost signings and go from there. I don't think they will trade Skubal for example if he pitches well, but other relievers and possibly Turnbull. That is what I expect.

At this point, I'd be OK with rolling the dice on moving Schoop to 3B next season if we can't come up with a better option. He's already signed and will be without a position next year, once we acquire a real SS and move Baez to 2B. For consideration, the Yankees will need to desperately cut payroll to attempt to keep Judge next season. If we could get one of their better prospects, I think it might be worth taking on Josh Donaldson and the remaining year on his crappy contract. The Yankees would probably throw some money into the mix, too, like we did with Verlander. He seems like a bit of a douche, but that's OK for one season if we can get a very good prospect as part of the deal. This is why this offseason will be fun to watch--with few tradable assets, it will be interesting to see how innovative Harris will get.

Disclaimer...I am not a guitar guy. That said, I thought this was pretty cool. My daughter has been making noise about wanting a guitar for quite some time. Tonight we were over at a family friend's house and "Uncle" Adam is the owner of eight guitars and had been discussing his most recent purchase and his need to get rid of a couple older ones. My daughter randomly came upstairs and started talking about her desire to get a guitar....then "Uncle" Adam appears from the back room with a guitar and offers it to her as her first....it was his first that he bought when he was 15 years old. Such a cool, cool moment. My nine-year old daughter was speechless, sat down and started her best strumming, then hugged her "Uncle"....amazing.

If risking $7 million on a guy likely to rebound, which would make the salary worth it, is a major concern because there's a possibility he won't—if the money is the reason they don't do it—then we should be a little concerned for what that means for Baby Doc committing adequate resources to the team. Because in the MLB scheme of things, a $7 million risk is almost nothing.

You are right on the first bolded part, and I really really really hate that conditioning. I hope you are right on the second bolded part, because THAT will determine the Tiger's future. If Harris is given a mandate of a limited budget along the lines of what we have seen to-date (well below average, especially when Miggy's contract is discounted), I believe that we will be a losing team indefinitely no matter what Harris does with drafting and development. Don't get me wrong, even if he's given an average or above average budget that doesn't guarantee anything in terms of success....he still has to maximize use of analytics and scouting and his own sense of things, and some luck, and make it all happen. But WITHOUT at least an average budget, all of this discussion about analytics, drafting, development, trading, Candy vs. whoever, is all academic and pointless in my opinion.

Jared Goff could be one of the best passers in the league but in typical Lion fashion they use him all wrong. He needs a clean pocket, 8 seconds to throw the ball, and a wide open receiver. If the stupid coaches would just do this every time then things would be so different for him.

Candy could easily rebound with the bat to something decent, but hes eeking over the peak performance age and is a below avg glove. I say cut him and see if you can get him back on a minimum contract. You have Kreidler and Lipcius, who wouldnt be a step back from 2022 anyway, and one of them might provide a solution for a couple of years or more.

We're at the point where we are criticizing Campbell for not a challenging a play that we know he would have lost.

Except, it wasn't a TD and he would have absolutely lost the challenge and you would have complained about wasting a timeout.

I just don't think Campbell pays attention to the details. When I watch Michigan, Harbaugh is on the refs for every little thing they miss. If it is a bad spot, they are hearing it. If it is a turnover that should be reviewed, they are hearing it. If it's a questionable penalty, they are hearing it. It doesn't seem like we see Campbell pay attention to these things to the extent a head coach should. He is a motivator and a people person but you have to be more than that as a head coach. And if you are not, you better have the best assistants in the business to stay on top of that stuff for you.
