  3. My son is a senior in HS and we went on a campus visit this past Monday. While there he posted about it on (I think) Snapchat. Someone who is a freshman there replied and was going to meet up to talk to him, except his class schedule conflicted with what we had scheduled. He made sure to say that my son could reach out with any questions he might have though. The amazing thing about this to me is that the two of them are not friends. They went to the same grade school and maybe played soccer or baseball together a time or two, but they never hung around together or anything. It's what social media is supposed to be for, and it just blew my mind that teenagers can (and do) use those apps for good. You always just hear about how they are used for bullying, etc, so I was very pleased to see the other side of it.

  5. be careful. A friend of mine, who is in decent shape for someone in their mid 40's, was doing 100 a day to keep up with his HS boys. He ended up having some kind of muscle attack on his arms but wasn't sure at the time, went to the ER to rule out a heart attack. Don't be afraid to go on your knees. At our age.... it's no joke. I used to bang out 25 at a time but my wrists and fingers started to develop some issues, i wear gloves now. But during our classes if we are doing chest or pushup work I get some 35 pound dumbells and do it that way.

  10. an apology for any mistake, acceptance of the apology, and further discussion is all that is needed. there is no need for "punishment." there is need for forgiveness and understanding. if a pattern of disrespect emerges, then that should be dealt with differently. but one instance like this is not a cause for giving the internet mobs and ace anbender's of the world their pound of flesh.

  13. Weaver has turned SVGs pile of hot trash and broken finances into a ton of young potential and a totally clean and flexible financial situation. Getting a coach who can put these players in a better position to succeed and teach them a real NBA offense and defense would help, but it's undeniable that they're in a way better position as a franchise now then they were a few years ago. When your team is all at their ceiling, your finances are capped, you have no likeable players, and you know your best outcome is the 8th seed, there's no reason to watch. That was the Drummond era. Today we have a bunch of 19-22 years olds who have plenty of potential, are mostly likeable hard workers, and you have a ton of cap flexibility to start adding pieces once you see if this core you drafted works. It's a much better situation and much more fun to watch. Does it work? Time will tell.

  14. Young does more than just extend drives by scrambling, which he does. He also steps up in the pocket to get by the pass rush and deliver the ball to an open receiver on a developing play. One of the continuing narratives on Goff, as shared earlier from the tweet by MB, is that Goff takes the sack or misses the downfield shot because he drops back so far in the pocket. If Bryce Young were 2-3 inches taller he'd be the consensus #1 pick and #1 QB I think.

  16. Weaver completely sucks how exactly? Drafted Hayes and ??? Sure, Casey completely sucks but he's good for the tank so we're good with him for one more year. Weaver has done more good than bad.

  17. Of course, like many our age, I displace more water than I used to. In preparation of the challenge, I have been doing them on my knees. I've grown wise enough to know that I don't have to impress anyone and will know when it is the right time to transition to doing them on my toes. As a barrel-chested fire hydrant, pushups are the one thing that I've always been able to do a lot of and had stopped doing them because I fell victim to laziness combined with busyness. Having said that, it's sage advice and I appreciate it.

  18. I am doing a 3,000 pushup challenge in November raising money for St. Jude (my favorite charity). If you would like to donate $5 or whatever (heck, even a buck helps), you'll be helping a family receive free medical care for a child with cancer. https://www.facebook.com/donate/1259963094845565/?fundraiser_source=external_url

  23. almost any baseball player who gets to arbitration should have enough money to live on with some sensible investments. its now $700k per year at the minimum. invest that in some rental properties and you have a nice nest egg for your future. but young people gonna do what young people gonna do...

  24. Of course Stewart can't get a rebound on the most important possessions of the game. It's insanity to play him as the only big man against the other teams starters. He either needs to be a bench player or be playing next to another big guy in the starting lineup. We are give up third and fourth chance opportunities and that makes it extremely hard to win.

  27. All of the Detroit sports rebuilds have hit a speed bump this year. Coupled with Michigan State playing like a bad MAC team this season, and it’s been a pretty lousy sports year.
