Continuing the trend that dems are expected to behave like it's 1991 and not 2023. They have to play nice and old school congeniality while the GOP can run amok and break norms.3 points

If you’ve ever listened to his podcast, you would say hard pass. Very sugary and optimistic—that would wear thin fast. The Masters thing was funny, though.2 points

This will shake up the team. I hope to higher and higher levels of production and professionalism. "If Matt Shepherd can be fired, any of us can lose our jobs! "2 points

What is Kiner-Falefa going to rebound to? His next season of an OPS at .700 or higher will be his first.2 points

I think this is right. He was coming off a serious injury onto a team that was in a playoff push. The next two months will tell us more about Jamo than the last 18 months have.2 points

Uh huh... And who bears some responsibility in that exactly? Who has spent years nurturing and enabling thus behavior?1 point

one big picture thing to keep in mind is what's happening in SF with Harris's old friends. Zaidi fired Kapler and admitted he is next if he cannot figure out how to improve the team. does this sound familiar? constant platooning by Kapler met with jeers when it does not work; frequent dumpster diving on the waiver wire with constant churn at the end of the roster; making a few attempts to land a big fish FA but always falling short; no impactful trades. Ilitch will, I assume, have a lot of patience, more than SF (or Boston where Bloom got axed in part because he did not want to make a mistake and trade the wrong prospects), but next year's free agents will only be more expensive than last year's free agents.1 point

Throwing out names is dangerous because every player either sucks or won't play for Detroit or costs too much!1 point

Tigers Twiiter: Team needs to spend Tigers Twitter: I can't wait for these bloated contracts to come off the books1 point

I don't even think they would have to go that far - just going the Fred Upton route (ie. moderate GOP member / caretaker Speaker) would probably be workable. My thing is that, though some GOP strategists in my Twitter feed seem to think it's the Democratic Caucus's job to clean this situation up, in reality, this is sort of the GOP's mess and it's not clear the degree to which the Dems have a role to play in fixing it at this point.1 point

I think even seriously submitting Trump for a vote is akin to setting Congress on fire.1 point

Its been said multiple times, its not a crop of free agent position players this offseason. I think if the Tigers bring in new position players, it'll be via trade. Meadows look reasonable at the plate in his debut, and I think can be the CF out of the gate. Baez is going to return, like it or not. Rogers showed enough to be a primary catcher. That's pretty good defense up the middle. If the Tigers can get good enough offense to where this trio is stuck in the bottom third of the order, that's probably the best possibility going into 2024. Greene, Torkelson, and Carpenter will hit in the top 6 spots of the lineup. The key will be adding sufficient bats to the top 6, keeping Greene healthy, and keeping the lesser fielding OF from causing too much damage on a daily basis. In other words, the less time Carpenter (and/or Malloy if promoted) have a fielding glove on, the better. But that means getting bats and defense at 2B, 3B, and RF. It'd be nice for one or two of those spots to be right handed hitting (RF is probably the best spot). Maybe they can figure out a way for it to work with only one of Malloy/Carpenter in the field and the other at DH. But will Greene require more time at DH than we might like? That's kind of tricky. I suppose they can try it for next season and see what happens.1 point

Yeah, McCarthy has poked his finger in the eye of the Dem Caucus repeatedly since become Speaker and has proven himself untrustworthy It's amazing, despite all of this, there is an expectation that the Dems would or should just bail him out.1 point

PS: Yes. But there will still be holes to fix as I noted above. Think Steve Kemp traded for Chet Lemon.1 point

The 70's ruined me. Of COURSE every Tiger prospect is going to be great! I already SEEN it HAPPEN!!!1 point

So, next year will be like 77. Just 7 more years until the World Series! 76-87 were my Tigers fan glory years, so repeating that would be fun. Except I'm old and cynical now.1 point

Knew the knives would be out for McCarthy within a year. Surprised it took this long. They're gonna try to vote Trump in as Speaker.1 point

Back then I was like Echoes. Every Tiger prospect was going to be great! That worked out in the late 70s, early 80s.... Then it didn't work anymore.1 point

I think any NFL on-field evaluation of JaMo is invalid. Coming off the ACL as quickly as he did didn’t allow for anything except to allow him to get into the rhythm of the NFL schedule. The eval begins now.1 point

The Padres were one of the most underachieving teams ever, so I'm not sure Soto and Tatis made players better.1 point

I hate the idea of investing so much into one player again. He gets injured or declines or underperforms and then what? Then we suck again for multiple years. Build a good balanced team with pitching, defense and hitting. We need a solid 40 man roster, not one superstar.1 point
