Ideally I'd call Denver and see what they want for Surtain. I'd be willing to give up a 24 first for him in a heartbeat, yeah he's due for an extension in a couple years but it's not like you can't have any high dollar players in this league. You could build a defense around him and Hutch being the expensive players while sprinkling younger more affordable players to compliment them.3 points

True, Jacobs and Harris have played out of their minds... against Desmond Ridder, Jordan Love, and Bryce Young. I don't know if their secondary situation is sustainable. They could use a depth piece at corner3 points

I put a little work into my service time sheet, adding some roster restrictions to the front page. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jRnDAcv86yGYl1Tq6fdXD1VoGr2Ls5PiRBNEFBXHL3Y/edit#gid=03 points

Your wife is likely not a US Government senior executive who worships at the altar of fiscal propriety. A little graft doesn't bother me but...indeed, it makes the World go round but...the wife would be most upset.2 points

To them, I say, this staff really loves them some David Montgomery. He had more receiving targets against Carolina (six) than any WR.1 point
-
Now that they have close to a balanced schedule, they should eliminate divisions and just take the top six (or how ever many teams they feel is necessary).1 point

Yeah, like i say, its a psychological barrier. Like I won't wear Lions merch out of fear I'll bring back the bad old days of pain.1 point

Some is automated (Standings for waiver order, service time counter is automated but I need to nudge it for transactions). A lot of stuff is just copy/paste which is easy.1 point

I, personally, would love to see anyone make the argument to a room of politicians (GOP and Dem) that Israel shouldn't get any funding because, don't worry, the war machine always gets theirs.... They would (with good reason) be laughed and/or jeered out of the room. Because it is a specious and unserious argument that isn't founded in anything concrete. And the same would hold true with Ukraine as well.... if Congresscritters want to vote to cut off aid, they should be made to own that decision, not covered by unserious arguments that hinge on throwaway lines about "the war machine" and whatnot.1 point

Again, I think actual, concrete votes taken in the House of Representatives tell me a lot more than "trust me bro, Ukraine's gonna get money because [insert conspiratorial throwaway line here]"1 point

Part of this is that the value of possession has gone up. I think the reason long passing is dying out is because it was never high percentage, but today's QBs can hit 70% completion rates throwing the short and intermediate routes, and that means you keep the ball, and that is everything in today's game. You have to score, and you need the ball to score. Go back a generation I'd guess there were more punts, each possession was worth less, low percentage plays with high return like the long pass made more sense. Go back 2 generations and you had the old clock rules that made the game much longer and single possession even less important. So it's been a very long term trend in one direction, and it takes years for players and coaches that came up in different circumstances to all either change their ways or retire.... LOL - sort of the inverse of the disappearance of the mid-range jumper in the NBA, which still hung around decades after the 3 pt shot came in.1 point

Lions entering Tampa with a two-game lead in the NFC North. Through five games, the Lions appear to be the only team in the division with a pulse.1 point

Packers fail to take advantage. Lions have a 2-game lead in the division.1 point

What a crazy finish. Great catch, but Harper still shouldn't have been almost all the way to third base there.1 point

I think they're both prime examples of why it's stupid to sell the farm for Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson, or Russell Wilson. Build a supporting cast and you can install a lot of quarterbacks. Having a good play caller helps, but if they have an oil-and-vinegar relationship, they won't go far either (see: Goff and McVay).1 point

Yeah, I don’t assume he’s a starter to begin the season. In fact, it might be more about matching up with the opposition. Cunningham and Duren are starting. Stewart is likely at opening 4. I do think Ivey is probably pencilled into there as well, but it might depend upon who gets the 3. Hopefully there are plenty enough games where the 4th quarter matters. By that point, it doesn’t matter who started. Who is playing well that game? I like those 5 guys on the court then.1 point

I don't mind adding some "hunger" to this team... As in... Better be HUNGRY if you want to earn MINUTES on the court. At any position... starter or backup.1 point

chiarot is also an alternate captain. he's obviously a locker room presence and i dont think he's going anywhere. unfortunately. i can understand the signing because they were such a weak team and got pushed around all over the ice. but if you have him, i'm not sure bringing in holl and petry makes a ton of sense. otoh, there will be injuries and edvinsson will be first man up and will definitely be here next season unless something bad happens. in fairness, he was good in preseason but still took too many penalties and made some rookie mistakes.1 point

I don't in any way, shape, or form, justify the barbarism and horrific crimes against humanity committed by Hamas on Saturday. But I think this Palestinian-Israeli expert that CNN had on is right. The world has largely allowed the Israeli government to engage in and get away with an apartheid against Palestinian people for damn near a decade? I don't think the Israeli apartheid justifies at all what Hamas did. But when you have people living in an open air prison, as Israel did with Palestinians in Gaza, you can predict at some point there will be retaliation.1 point

There is a point when to get excited and if you do it all the time, not only is it annoying but it doesn't describe the game. One thing I have always appreciated about Dan Dickerson is his general excitement when someone from the other team does somethin exciting too. That's pretty important actually and a lot of broadcasters weren't crediting the other teams impressive feats.1 point

While on the Detroit Lions 2023 Revenge Tour™, the Bucs aren't as obvious a choice as the Seahawks, Panthers, or NFC North rivals, the 47-7 drubbing the team took from the Bucs in 2020 still pisses me off when I think about it. Practically the entire interim coaching staff was in COVID-19 quarantine, which for any other NFL franchise in 2020 would have led to the game being postponed until Monday or Tuesday, as was requested by the Lions. Instead, the NFL forced them to play on Sunday with zero game preparation and poor Rob Prince at the helm, who will forever have one of the sorriest NFL head coaching records of all time as a result. Stafford got hurt on the very first drive and the Lions never crossed midfield the rest of the game. Their only points came on a punt return from Jamal Agnew. But Tom Brady got to embarrass us en route to clinching a playoff berth, so the NFL was happy.0 points
