  2. AA is actually a pretty important degree. Most corps won't hire you without one. Supervisors on the line at GM must have them. Most nurses have an AA (pushing for Bachelors recently).

  3. I don't know why I'm engaging here, but here goes. I never said he was asking for that, but to me the burden of proof falls on the person who claims he can just be rubber stamp signed to a 2-3 year extension after the year he's having without him testing the market. As @oblong always says, you aren't going to the grocery store and shopping in the pitcher aisle.

  7. I am now requiring that anyone that wants my vote should at least have a working knowledge of Civics and basic American history...i In rebuttal I present Thomas Jefferson's Letter to Danbury Baptists. https://www.loc.gov/loc/lcib/9806/danpre.html While Jefferson was not involved in writing the US Constitution, he did express views on the separation of church and state.

  8. And for extra credit, if you really want to bring the King James Version of the Bible back to schools, or the RSV, American Standard, or whatever whitewashed version is popular these days add a few things like the Beatitudes along side the Ten Suggestions. After all Christ did say he was bringing a new covenant and if one actually paid attention to those teachings instead of what the money grabbing MEGA Churches teach these days.....

  10. That is absolutely awesome and I am so glad he didn’t mince words but spoke the unspoken. No pun intended but Reggie addressed the white elephant in the room with an explicit and honest appraisal of what life was really like for these guys. 🙏 Reggie Jackson! Now, was I the only one to notice Reggie adjusting his HONDA baseball hat for the camera’s sake prior to his comments?

  11. You don't lose over 80% of your games if you have talent. The Pistons added a guy who was the #7 pick, was cut in year 4, and nobody picked him up. Think about that. Every single contender in the league wants depth. Every team can sign a guy to a vets minimum. Nobody touched him. Duren and Ivey are not that level of bad, but Pistons fan really overrate them. Cleveland made a big jump the year they drafted Mobley and traded for Markkenan. Then they just flatlined, even after obtaining Mitchell. He hasn't molded anything. Garland is lazy and doesn't play D. Mitchell is a decent offensive player, but brutal on D. When Drummond was there, they tried to run the offense through him. Totally misuses Mobley. Not a lot of accountability for certain players. Actually, he does sound like a Pistons coach.

  12. Baltimore already traded for Flaherty last year and he sucked so bad they put him in the BP. I do not see them trading high end talent for just 3 months of any pitcher, and certainty not Jack.

  15. If everything was based solely on stats and merit, Lee would be Toledo bound, with Jung heading to the show. Crazy thing about Lee is that he is doing this at age 21 in AA. Starting to get excited about him.

  16. You don’t push players up to see if they can compete, or “let them sink or swim”. You know at each stage what their flaws and strengths and weaknesses are, you don’t use stats to justify a move, leave them at an appropriate level until they acquire enough skills to compete. At some point they will be ready and will require the challenge, but there is no point in rushing it.

  19. I’m following this game on my phone, but I’m watching the Braves and the Yankees on Apple TV and I saw the Dontrelle Willis is now an announcer. Too bad he didn’t work out for us. He started his career in Boise, Idaho and for years he called his host family every week to talk to them because he got really close to them. He’s a cool guy. Once again it’s a shame he didn’t work out for us.

  21. For what it's worth, the one semi-useful nugget of info from today's press conference was that Trajan wants to use the trade market (and therefore the cap space) to acquire players that can help now but also come with future assets. Sounds like he wants to do what Weaver should've done years ago. Get ready for this rebuild to drag on a bit as they try to do it the right way this time. Also, get ready for Lavine or a similar sin contract that comes with some draft capital.

  27. maybe the organization is doing what all organization's do after changes are made and the initial results are below expectations? you blame the prior management team! which in this case, would be true. the tigers' rebuild started in 2023. its only been on year. its going to take some time to dig our from under this mess. dealing for Lee last year was a start, getting a good prospect for flaherty will be the idea this year, and then getting a haul for skubal next year (or this year) will be the foundational pieces that make us the 2016 cubs. but it will take a bit to get out from under the albatross of a decade of al avila.

  28. Following up on this, has the RWM started weighing in on how Reggie Jackson is a woke commie anti-American yet? Because I have a feeling they’re gonna in the next few days. Because remember: when Reggie was playing, he wasn’t considered anything like Willie Mays. He was a lippy, uppity, mau mau negro, and the media gladly reminded us of that every day.

  29. Looking at the pitches in his gameday plots, he seems to be swinging at a lot of pitches he would normally take. One hopes that's a deliberate experiment to stretch out his plate coverage and not that he's completely befuddled. But only he and his coaches would know for sure.....

  30. I might believe you if the beat writers did not 100% depend on the teams to maintain their access to the front office, players, and information. You can ask Anthony Fenech about exactly how that works. Thank you for your insights about local writers, which I will take under advisement.

  33. Already did quote it. A quick mention of extending him 2-3 years, to me, implies what I took it as. Again, not sure why I am bothering getting dragged into a bad faith argument.

  34. Maybe - or it's just the writers chasing audience because a higher level of 'burn it down' critique is what appeals to the audience about now. I wouldn't take too much out what the local writers say one way or the other. I might put some stock into any subtle attitude shifts in the TV booth because I think those are the guys that probably spend the most time with Hinch - but that's just a spitball as well.

  35. I’m still not understanding why the league(s) don’t go with the full ABS system versus the Challenge system. If a challenge is raised on a given pitch when the Challenge system is being used, aren’t they using the ABS system to determine the call anyway through a visual review? If so, why not commit to the ABS system? It was my initial impression that the Challenge system was a way of introducing an automated system to the game, generally speaking. In that it is being promoted over the ABS system, I’m a bit surprised.

  42. This scene, this right here. I put it up there with the brilliance of conveying emotion without having to raise a voice or get animated. It's so subtle, but powerful. Right up there with Paul Newman's summation scene in The Verdict. Great actors who use their face and voice so perfectly.

  44. I would rather: Extend Flaherty 2 or 3 years. He and Skubal and Olson are the basis for a competent rotation for the next 2+ years. We have no one else ready to step in this year or next to take one of their places. I don't mind sifting through guys (Mize/ Manning/ Madden/ Montero... hmmm... I'm feeling a sudden urge for M&M's for some reason...) in the 4th and 5th spot. But 1-2-3, I want talented, reliable pitchers. That's Skubal-Flaherty-Olson, for now. Until someone pushes into the top 3 (Jobe is more than a year away, on a WAG?), then those 3 guys anchor the rotation. If someone DOES push into the top 3... awesome. I'm of a mind that, if we're going to look like ****, because of all these kids... well, then let's just look like **** with all these kids. As soon as is humanly possible, call up Jung, Meadows, Dingler, Tork (if he can get back on track)... hell, even Vilade. He's only 25 and can play 1st. Get it over with. Whatever struggles these guys are going to have trying to acclimate to MLB... have at it. Let them all flop around and struggle and try to figure out MLB pitching. They either swim... or sink. Maybe even call up Lee in September if he warrants. I think he can actually FIELD 2B. Keith & Jung & others can figure out their spots later, if Lee actually comes up and STEALS 2B from them. Do. It. Now. Or at least as soon as the Org deems them ready... but I'm giving them a serious push. If we lose lots of games the rest of the year... does that change anyone's expectations from where we are... right now? Hand it over to the kids and let them swim, or sink. IMO. That means trade: Urshela, Kelly, probably Canha. PS: I hold onto bullpen guys because no one is outstanding enough to get anything but low-level crap, IMO. And therefore, just let them come back next year and fight it out for a bullpen spot. Get more bullpen competition, and hope a better bullpen can, somehow, be constructed. With, or without the current guys.

  45. Trading present tense productive players for even top prospects is usually a loser, especially the way teams are valuing them now. IIRC Verdugo was a top prospect in baseball. Red Sox gave up Betts for him, Betts is still an all-star, Verdugo is a journeyman and not even with the BoSox. White Sox tried the same and got nowhere. When it comes to all-star baseball players there is no replacement for the bird in hand. At the time we thought we got a decent return for Verlander, in the end not so much. If you had given up an all start in trade to TB for the consensus best prospect in a generation in Wander Franco, it still would have blown up in your face. Until a guy proves he can play and stay in the majors, he remains a crapshoot.
