Well after bragging about my generally excellent health at age 74, three days ago I suffered a visual impairment that implied a possible stroke (which implies a host of bad results) or a detached retina (which implies possible blindness). Four or five times in the last 20 years I’ve stood up really quickly and saw shooting stars and weird images that got burned on my vision - it’s sometimes referred to as a visual migraine or ocular migraine - and it was kind of frightening because if these images stayed there forever it would be awful but they went away after 10 minutes. Monday morning around 2 AM this happened again for the first time in three or four years but part of the image never went away and never will and is burned into my vision in the left eye forever. My doctor tested me for evidence of a stroke of which there was none and sent me to an ophthalmologist which allayed my fears of a detached retina. When I’m looking through my left eye only it covers about 1-12th of the visual area of my left eye. It looks like a childish drawing of a ball of yarn. When I’m looking through both eyes it seems like a mild shimmer at the very bottom of my vision. I know other people to whom this is happened and it doesn’t affect driving or reading and your brain does you the favor of overlooking it as a problem after a while. so the next time I think of bragging about my health I’ll be more circumspect about it.3 points

I think the reason most people like restaurant food better than home cooking is all the things restaurants do to food that also makes it so much worse for your health.2 points

How about we stop even referring to the guy? He adds nothing but mishegoss to the discussion, and all we do is feel bad afterwards, which is the apparent goal.2 points

They got very colorful in the 1970s (not the Tigers but other teams) and then they eventually went back to more traditional uniforms. I don't really care anymore. If they have to screw around with the game, let it be the uniforms rather than how the game is played.1 point

From a purely travel stand point, I don't think crossing the state line when you're that close is any big deal. I doubt there many, if any, fans who would say "I can live with the struggles of driving to get there if it was still in Illinois, but I refuse to go over the boarder!" I also think fans would be more willing to put up with all the struggles when it's just 8 or 9 events a year, vs. 81 games at Comiskey Park -- I mean U.S. Cellular Field -- I mean Guaranteed Rate Field -- I mean Rate Field. Having said all that, I still think it would be a bad idea and does look bad optically to leave your home state.1 point

Turning to an important topic, the new alternative jerseys are not as bad as they could have been.1 point

I tend to agree. Strictly speaking, he's not saying "Terrion Arnold is connected with two men who were arrested for armed robbery." Instead, he's saying "A FOX station in Florida is reporting that Terrion Arnold is connected..." It's a fine line, and when you're Florio, with a large audience, there comes a responsibility to do more digging than just retweeting. Hell, I think I did a better job of posting the story here in my first word being "unverified." This isn't that far removed from if Florio had reported fake news promulgated by a Twitter Bot. Can't do that. And it will cost Florio, to the extent TA's agents (Klutch Sports Group, who represents ~200 professional athletes including LeBron and Jalen Hurts) have now likely put him squarely in the dog house. But as it stands, I can't really blame Florio too much for re-reporting what on its face appeared to be legitimate news.1 point

Look I don't want to seem like I'm defending the guy too much here, but he's quoting a legitimate local news station who is quoting a police detective's comments during court proceedings. That's not a "My source said he heard someone say..." I mean ideally journalists should fact check, but I think most people would assume that a police detective wouldn't be making comments in court about this if the detective hadn't checked them. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume a police detective is a believable source, especially when the accusation being made is simply that there's a link here... not that TA orchestrated or was involved directly in any way. In the end I 100% believe that he should have tried to reach out to the Lions or TA to get a statement. But I believe that these days 90% of "journalism" seems to be about getting the story out first, so I can't fault Florio anymore than I fault 90% of "journalism" these days.1 point

The fact they are debating if it will or won't be 2% seems like a win for tariffs. I know I was wrong predicting much higher inflation. The interesting thing to me is what happens when the left regains the White House. The way they have railed against tariffs, you would assume they would all be stricken from the books at 12:01PM on January 20th. But government doesn't have a long history of giving up revenue streams like that. So we'll see what happens.1 point

Agreed. And our government is also committing murders of its citizens by Proud Boys working for a racist department. As well as terrorizing an entire population of immigrants who just want to go about their lives in peace.1 point

Right. This is very much a walking city, and everywhere, every neighborhood, all 77 of them, and not just downtown downtown. Kids under 12 are allowed to ride on the sidewalk, but once you’re old enough for a bar or bat mitzvah, get the hell out onto the street with the cars where you belong. 😁1 point

The Prince Andrew arrest seems like a big deal. I heard that the OSU donor who runs Victoria Secret was testifying. It would be nice if our media were not so bent to the will of Trump.1 point

If that’s the case then yeah. Especially if he could see things not working out. Might be worth losing your job over. They can never take it away from you. That’s up there with walking on the moon in feats that nobody can top at a cocktail party.1 point

Anyone ever play Fascination? I don’t think there’s many of those games left. There’s a hole in the wall Fascination place in Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio. Sure wish they would patch the place up, but there’s probably no money in it. Anyway, it’s kind of like bingo. There’s 5x5 grid of holes that you roll these racquetball size slightly heavier rubber balls at. The middle hole is plugged and a free space. The object is 5 in a line like bingo. But there’s a V shaped ramp in between you and the grid. So, the screws up its path. Then the ball could have its path impacted depending on how it travels amongst the holes. So, it looks easy, but there’s definitely luck involved. As the game goes, there’s a “scoreboard” on your lane showing you what holes you’ve gotten. Games ends once there’s on player with a line of 5. It might last around a minute depending upon how many people are playing. I think this place has 36 or 40 lanes, but as I mentioned, it’s a hole in the wall, so some of the lanes are unplayable.1 point

Didn't make it yesterday or today but I'll make it to the fields tomorrow. Also to the evening BBQ after practice tomorrow. Got tickets to Sunday's game for my brother and I. Found a small blurb on the interwebs on Briceno hitting a HR off Skubal today... Tigers underrated prospect reportedly mashed home run off Tarik Skubal in camp Damn, I missed it!!!1 point

I'm reminded of something a former coworker used to say- everything in moderation, including moderation. It's worth it to treat yourself once in a while, as long as you make healthy choices about 85% of the time.1 point
