Please stop. The Tigers made the playoffs because of both Avila and Harris. Can we move on?8 points

It’s logically and morally impossible for anyone to defend this admin and it’s people in a serious way. That’s why the forum lost all of its right leaners or they don’t post. They know they would get destroyed with reason and fact. The intellectual wing left the Republican Party. All that’s left are kooks, trolls, and grifters.8 points

I really dislike the narrative that nobody can compete with the Dodgers. This year's World Series was arguably the most competivive World Series in history. It went seven games wiith one game going 18 innings and the 7th game also going into extra innings. During the regular season, four teams won more games than the Dodgers.8 points

As someone who works in academia, I encounter a lot of anti-AI sentiment. It is admittedly a serious problem with student papers. Prior to ChatGPT, it was time consuming enough to prove traditional plagiarism, but in many cases, I could eventually find hard, indisputable evidence of academic dishonesty. Now, I receive quite a few papers that are suspicious but there’s no hard proof that the student didn’t write it themselves and merely copied from AI. You can meet with students one-on-one and ask them about their writing, but that’s very time-consuming when you have ninety students. Re-designing writing assignments to address the AI problem is an ongoing challenge. Many professors are abandoning at-home writing assignments altogether, but I think there’s something very valuable about sitting by yourself and slowly thinking through and writing a paper over many hours, days, or weeks. That being said, I have found ChatGPT incredibly useful in my own research and writing, whether for brainstorming ideas, improving writing, or researching information. (It can make mistakes, so information needs to be verified.) I see it as an extension / enhancement of or supplement to human intelligence. It’s like being able to have an immediate conversation with a very intelligent (but fallible) person about virtually anything I want to know more about. I recently used AI to help think through the fairness of new grading scheme I am considering, and how I might want to frame it and word it to students. Or I can use it, for example, to compare Ancient Greek approaches to moral virtue with those found Asian religions like Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Confucianism. I allow my students to use AI for some of these purposes, so long as they document it. Fundamentally, I see no sharp difference between using AI to assist in some aspects of research and writing, and relying on another person such as a writing tutor or a professor. Unfortunately, I do think many students will be even less motivated to read actual books. It’s depressing when I see recent news articles reporting that many high school students finish high school without ever having a read an entire book.6 points

While I posted this, I also think it's unconscionable to suddenly decide to uproot people who have been here for years and built a life, that for years we never took the time or effort to be bothered with. I think of it sort of like a common law marriage after any number of years. Time and space absolutely creates/changes the reality of what is just.6 points

I don't think it's that.... I think they're just being assholes in general. "They" did something different so we have to change it back because whatever reason they had for doing it was "woke". They would cut their own dicks off if it "owned the libs". That's how stupid and deranged these people are now.5 points

When my partner and I opened our first restaurant my girlfriend was talking to some employees and a few mentioned they didn't have anywhere to go for Thanksgiving. She invited them over for dinner and I think 7 people ended up coming. That morphed into an annual dinner hosted by my girlfriend and my partners wife. We're expecting over 200 people tomorrow.5 points

I’m going to guess that as I explore up & down the various highways in the northern confines of my new home base in Delaware.. frantically searching for elusive Italian delicatessen that can create my favorite sandwich (eggplant, mozzarella & broccoli rabe w/balsamic glaze), this could be suspicious activity?? What will they think when I have to make the extraordinary decision to cross over state lines & waterways of Philadelphia to extend my search area? I will, perhaps at moments, break into weird sounding foreign dialects….. both uttered when I am failing to get my search specifications understood, AND when I make a breakthrough and get the exact coordinates of my final destination. There will be furtive, suspicious behavior as I look to smuggle stated delicacy back to the First State. After all, my family motto often uttered by the Neopolitans and Sicilians on my father’s side - “ Que mangia ne morte”, which is of course a lie, but anything you’re saying in Italian sounds wise. Even when it’s nonsensical and could get me escorted into an ice truck for my suspicious behavior, coupled with my insistence for speaking non -American. But sometimes you just gotta have that eggplant mozzella and broccoli rabe sandwich. You just gotta.5 points

Things I believe: -Avila was not nearly as bad as he is often made out to be. -Harris has not yet demonstrated that he is the wunderkind that some claim. -Both contributed to the last two seasons postseason success. -Ilitch is not cheap, and if we’re not spending to some people’s expectations on the MLB roster, that is Harris making those decisions. -Jim Campbell never should have traded Jason Thompson for Al Cowens.5 points

I think i might have mentioned the purchase of the King Abdullah Academy here in NOVA. Fairfax County Public Schools recently asked for names and I put Jamal Kashoggi HS as my first choice. Trump likes the guy who had Kashoggi cut up.5 points

I think its a form of privilege to not understand that many people just don't do well or have the ability to deal with bureaucracy. What if they don't have a car or access to transportation? Or missing required documentation, like birth certificates. What if they have trouble reading or writing? Maybe they have anxiety around people. Maybe they don't know where to go an ID. Maybe they're afraid because they didn't pay a ticket years ago that they'll get arrested. The list goes on. These people still have the right to vote.5 points

I suspect any real trade “haul” will ultimately underwhelm compared to what is being speculated by podcasters and ex-general managers.4 points

I really don't see much evidence that the team performance of the last two years is all because of Harris. I expect to see more evidence at the MLB level of Harrises influence soon, but I have not seen it yet.4 points
-
I haven’t watched any interviews, but when I read where Harris said “no one is untouchable“ and that he’s willing to “listen” this means the organization is not desperate, that they’re not panicking, and they will not be easy prey and it’s going to take quite a bit to pry anything loose of substance from the club. It’s his way of dealing from strength instead of weakness regardless of optics. Of course I’m an inveterate optimist and I like reading the most positive intent into things.4 points

Are we seriously still debating the value of pitchers because they don't pitch every game? Pitchers don't have to play every game like position players have to because a pitcher has five times the impact on winning or losing a game as a position player does. That's why a pitcher can be just as valuable starting 30 games in a season as a position player is starting 150 games. Top-of-the-line pitchers are worth every penny that top-of-the-line position players are. I would like to sign Skubal to a number of years, although preferably not ten, and if it takes $40 million a year to do that, it's worth it. I mean, it's worth it just for the idea that if Skubal commits to Detroit long-term, that's going to signal to the rest of the market that Detroit is committing to winning, and that's going to make us a lot more attractive a destination than we are now.4 points

Aside from the fact that 'the Bible' is a book, not a sentient entity and thus not capable of 'smartness', the statement "Atheism is a Religion" is foolishness. An atheist may believe any number of things are true that may or may not be true, and he may hold some of those beliefs in dogmatic fashion, but he does not believe it is true that God exists, so whatever you call his belief system, it is by definition not religion. And English is certainly a rich enough language that that kind of inarticulateness is unnecessary. cf: re·li·gion: /rəˈlij(ə)n/ noun the belief in and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods.4 points

the market has spoken. this is all that Rodriguez was worth. and it is not very much. so the question is not, are the Os wrong? the question is, is the marketplace wrong? if the Tigers offered Carp or Perez for Rodriguez, the Os would have instantly taken that over Ward, a lesser, more expensive player, with less team control. but the Tigers did not make that trade for a reason. I am begging you not to think that the one of the worst run franchises in professional sports somehow has gamed the system and outmaneuvered 28 other teams to acquire a huge asset for pennies on the dollar. could that be true? yes, it could be true. is it? nope4 points

I don’t think Avila was as bad as some do. I even think he wanted to get us on the right track as far as analytics, development, etc, but he clearly was over his head. Harris has completely revamped the development system which has allowed some of Al’s picks to make their impact. Meadows was stuck. At this time last year most wanted Tork gone. Same with Mize. And if you want to use Harris’ FA signings against him, who did Al get in FA? Zimmerman? Upton? Pelfrey?4 points

I will agree with this. I am not trying to be diplomatic here - but it is Avila's group mostly that we are working with. With said, I do not think he did a real good job with most areas of the franchise. Some here may think he really took us back and/or buried the franchise. I am not totally on board with that but to me he did NOT surround himself with the right people - and he needed to do just that. Scott Harris, all IMHO, is putting together a solid franchise from the ground up. I will say again he has really helped in several areas: scouting, player development, exercise and nutrition science gains on many fronts (rehab, recovery, etc.), facility upgrades, international look see, waiver wire 'potential' player pick-ups and more. However, I have said repeatedly, he has to show he can acquire MLB talent (not fringe MLB types). It has been apx three years now. We were not in the position 2-3 years ago to add. However, this team has now been to the post-season two straight years. Both times advancing. Most baseball pundits feel it is a talented team. Harris cannot give the previous statement we want to develop a core first (BTW, he has not done that lately). The Tigers can contend 'now'. It does not mean they will win a WS, but they can contend for it. With said they need to add some talented MLB players. Maybe another bat, a top RP or two and 'maybe' a solid starter. I have been questioning all along 'Can Harris add MLB talent, via trade or FA?' I would like to see it. The last trade deadline was nothing to write home about, it may have effected the team (cannot say for sure) but on the positive I feel it gave him some experience in dealing with several clubs GMs and hopefully he is better at evaluating real talent (our MLB scouts as well). So much of sports is a crap-shot. Injuries are one of the biggest factors (this is why depth is sooo important). The Tigers are close. They have Skubal for another year. The have a core. They have another wave coming of young players (and there will/should be less swing-and-miss). IMHO, Harris needs to add THIS off season MLB talent. It will be interesting to see what happens. If it shows up, that he does not have this knack, this skill set - then hopefully he can find someone to help him who can. That is also why I ask/question the ability of GM Greenberg just as much in THIS particular area.4 points

Granting that it might be true on some margin, if he truly did not want Torres to come back, I don't believe Harris would have taken a big risky swing by offering a QO crossing his fingers it gets turned down, only to say "oh **** on a stick" if Gleyber were to pick it up. I think Scott was pretty much banking on Torres coming back.4 points
