But the question is more valuable for who. Part of what makes trades work is that the player you receive is more valuable *to you* than the one you gave up. Unless the team you traded with is one potentially ahead of you in the standing, it doesn't much matter what the value of the player you traded is to his new team. Tigers need a bat like Meadows a lot more than they need a player with Paredes profile. Now if Meadows turns out to be damaged goods for some reason, then Al will have blown it, but it's way premature to make that kind of negative assumption just because it was Tampa that decided to move him.2 points

Seriously, you all................when's the last time the Tigers pulled off a trade like this? A guy who is still young, who still has a higher ceiling. Wait a minute.............I'm still dreaming, aren't I ? Mixing weed & Melatonin again..................2 points

I don't know what Cueto means in Spanish, but in Portuguese it means Washed Up.2 points

lol got a laugh out of this. This stemmed from Rosenthal's tweet that said we were acquiring Meadows but didn't say for what which prompted multiple Rays fans in the thread to think that Tork was part of the package.2 points
-
Big surprise. Meadows is not a center fielder, but he can slug. I doubt Paredes or the comp balance pick will ever be as good as him. Aggressive move by Avila. I like it.2 points

If you had asked me yesterday what Paredes' trade value was, I would have said "bag of baseballs".1 point

Kudos to the Tigers for taking the high road and not telling the real reason, that reason is all the Orioles pitchers suddenly weren't feeling well and not available to pitch after hearing news of the Meadows trade and thinking of facing that potential lineup. None of them wanted to be the ones to get shelled on the last day of camp1 point

I am surprised that he only played four games because I remember his name well. I think it's because I used to look at the minor league stats in The Sporting News and saw his name often. It's sad to hear that he is in such tough shape.1 point

Fun fact: Ike grew up in Hamtramck. I met him when he was checking in to the Lakeland Holiday Inn during one of the fantasy camps I went to (either 2007 or 2008). He said his nickname growing up in the Mostly-Polish neighborhood he lived in was "Ike Blessitski".1 point

I wasn't saying it was a wise move to wait on trading Grant, but I also have no idea what was on the table. I'm just hoping we trade him in the offseason and don't extend him. I highly doubt we go into next season without one of those two things happening and I'd prefer not to pay a guy like Grant 112M at this point in the rebuild.1 point

Miggy sees him. Just missed a HR on his first AB then a loud HR on his second AB. I don't think Miggy is ready to hand over the DH spot yet.1 point

You notice it always comes down to asking the Dems not to respond in kind to make worse what the GOP has already felt free to break? Seems to be a game theory error in there somewhere.1 point

I know i was mainly just following up with your point of not remembering that there ahve been lots of trades with picks and some with some very high profile names.1 point

Maybe. There was talk of him just working with the staff in Lakeland (facility) before being assigned to a team.1 point

Escalate to deescalate. I am fully on board with packing the SC with Liberal judges until: (A) A set number of judges is defined by law, and (B) MCConnell's shenanigans are ruled illegal and the Senate must follow specific rules to vote on a SCOTUS. No passing on a vote because "reasons", and no trying to jam a candidate through in under a month because... "reasons".1 point

If this is correct(via Cody S), the only passable LH starter in the rest of the AL Central is Keuchel.1 point

but we had to mansplain it 😍 a few weeks ago in one of our fitness classes the instructor was counting off and then wanted to check some people's form so she asked my wife to count. My wife starts counting and then this other guy starts counting too.. I guess her counting wasn't good enough. He had to "man count".1 point

I suspect Madden isn't going to be there that long, good place for him to start but I think he will carve up Single A hitters with relative ease or atleast I'm hoping that is the case.1 point

If nominating a centrist justice will yield zero Republican votes anyway, then why had it better be a centrist justice?1 point

On the surface it looks like a steal but wait it's..oh nooo..Tampa Bay and they will probably get the most out of Isaac and make a good draft pick. Having said that knowing Hinch signed off I feel better. Not sure Meadows will handle Left field in Comerica real well but his power and clutch hitting is solid. Best of all we are adding to win! Could this be our 1984 version of the Willie Hernandez trade also made at the close of spring training in 1984 ?1 point

Cade does a lot more than just score though and has been playing well for longer than Green has. With that said, Green will likely be the best scorer in this draft when all is said and done, which is what pretty much everybody predicted. ROY doesn't matter anyway. I have little doubt that Cade will wind up being the best player in this draft class, he's just too damn good in a lot of areas. I think he has top 10 player in the league potential.1 point

article about Meadow increase in FB rate and attendant decrease in BaBIP. If there is park that might persuade him to stop trying to hit the ball in the air as much it should be COPA. https://www.draysbay.com/2022/1/26/22877187/austin-meadows-has-been-trying-to-hit-the-catwalks1 point

Conforto would have cost them a pick near the CBB, so this makes a lot more sense getting Meadows for 3 years at a much lower $$$ cost; Parades is going to get passed by Kreidler and others soon.1 point

So, I guess Baddoo will be the center fielder with Meadows and Grossman at the corners and Reyes backing up. Meadows still has three years before free agency too. They will have an interesting (good) situation when Greene returns.1 point

Oh c'mon! I just finished my write-up on Riley Greene and I wasn't going to do any more.1 point

I like it. I liked Isaac but to be honest he looks like a high floor low ceiling guy and the truth is that the Tiger system is deep in upcoming IFs likely to eclipse him, while we are pretty thin in the OF esp from the left hand batters box. Meadows was 4 WAR in '19, 2 WAR in 21 and is entering his prime power years. I can't see Paredes contributing that to the Tiger org over the next 2 or 3 years.1 point

The other aspect which probably isn't stressed enough is how much Russian doctrine in Syria/Chechnya/Azerbejian etc was able to depend on a level initiative achievable because their opponents didn't have much tactical intelligence capability against them. The Ukrainians apparently are being supplied by the West with the kind of tactical intelligence on Russian maneuver that denies them any kind of battlefield initiative advantage.1 point

OK, fine, she gets Putin as President. Deport her and all other Trump Supporters that make this choice, including Donald MF'ing Trump and his brood. Their choice. They want Putin, they can have him for the next 25 years... IN Russia. They can send us their report after 25 years and tell us how much they loved their life under Adolph "Murderer of Women and Children" MF'ing Putin.1 point

Ummm… this choice now is / SHOULD have been non-controversial. So, you know what? The hell with trying to appease that side of the aisle, because there’s NO ONE they won’t paint as extreme Commie-loving pinkos. It’s disgusting.1 point

For those of you (like me) who might be disappointed to watch the Pistons slip in the draft lottery standings... I've been looking at re-drafts of the top 4 players from each draft from 2005 until 2018 (I want to make sure we have at least 3 full seasons so I stopped there) and the data is pretty interesting. I've included all the data below if you want to see it, but here are some findings: Of the 56 total players 33% were from picks 1-3 41% of them came from picks 1-4 59% were picked outside of the top 4 20% came from picks 5-10 16% from picks 11 -15 23% from picks 21-48, showing the importance of late first round and early second round picks that some GMs like to give away Never have the top 4 picks wound up being the top 4 players Only 2 times have 3 of the top 4 picks become the top 4 players of that draft 6 times only 2 players were drafted in the top 4 5 times only 1 player was in the top 4 picks Once (in 2013) none of the top 4 players were drafted 1-4 Some data on individual picks... #3 tops the list with 8 players #1 is right behind it, with 7 players Picks #2, #4, and #5 have each yielded 4 of the top 4 players in their draft #8 is the worst. Not once did it yield a top 4 player from 2005-2018 ----------- Data dump below in case you want to have fun poking around ------------- Year Re-Draft Player Picked 2005 1 Chris Paul 4 2005 2 Deron Williams 3 2005 3 Monta Ellis 40 2005 4 Lou Williams 45 2006 1 LaMarcus Aldridge 2 2006 2 Kyle Lowry 24 2006 3 Paul Milsap 47 2006 4 Rajon Rondo 21 2007 1 KD 2 2007 2 Marc Gasol 48 2007 3 Mike Conley 4 2007 4 Al Horford 3 2008 1 Russell Westbrook 4 2008 2 Kevin Love 5 2008 3 Derrick Rose 1 2008 4 DeAndre Jordan 35 2009 1 Steph Curry 7 2009 2 James Harden 3 2009 3 Blake Griffin 1 2009 4 DeMar DeRozan 9 2010 1 Paul George 10 2010 2 John Wall 1 2010 3 DeMarcus Cousins 5 2010 4 Gordon Hayward 9 2011 1 Kawhi Leonard 15 2011 2 Kyrie Irving 1 2011 3 Jimmy Butler 30 2011 4 Klay Thompson 11 2012 1 AD 1 2012 2 Damian Lillard 6 2012 3 Bradley Beal 3 2012 4 Draymond Green 35 2013 1 Giannis 15 2013 2 Rudy Gobert 27 2013 3 CJ McCollum 10 2013 4 Steven Adams 12 2014 1 Jokic 41 2014 2 Embiid 3 2014 3 Zach Lavine 13 2014 4 Clint Capela 25 2015 1 Devin Booker 13 2015 2 KAT 1 2015 3 Kristaps Porzingis 4 2015 4 Dangelo Russell 2 2016 1 Jaylen Brown 3 2016 2 Jamal Murray 7 2016 3 Pascal Siakam 27 2016 4 Brandon Ingram 2 2017 1 Jayson Tatum 3 2017 2 Donovan Mitchell 13 2017 3 Bam Adebayo 14 2017 4 DeAaron Fox 5 2018 1 Luka 3 2018 2 Trae Young 5 2018 3 SGA 11 2018 4 DeAndre Ayton 11 point
