This is a sad moment. Jim Price is family. Period.

I knew this news could come any day. It still hits hard. When I read the news I couldn’t even tell my wife. When I finally gave it a try I did what I was afraid I would do, I choked up and couldn’t finish my sentence. Jim was a good man with a good heart. RIP Mr. Price.

So far in 28 innings, Jobe has struck out 39 batters and walked only 3 this year.

All everyone has said and more are true. He was a true gentleman, and always had time for me when I asked him a question about players I was researching for my books. I grew up with Ernie and Paul, and my kids grew up with Dan and Jim. I hope the next generation will be so lucky to have as good of a team to listen to as those others would. It will be a hard broadcast to listen tonight, and I'm sure Dan is not looking forward to it. Thanks for the memories Mr. Price and I hope you are in a nice area tonight.

Thank you for posting. Yes, Mr. Price deserves his own thread. Long time fan of listening to him and Dan Dickerson the radio. He stood in the game as long as he could. He told you how things were, esp later on. I also had the honor of meeting him at one of the Old Tiger Stadium weekend Fantasy Camps. I remember it will, him tossing some Ps to me as I swung away for some hitting practice. Then Ernie came by to sit in the dugout and talk to several participants. Northrup, Horton and others participated as well. "Late Movement" and "He put a severe buggy whip on that one" are the sayings I most remember. Peace and onto 'The Field of Dreams' Jimbo 😇

For anybody who has complained about lack of PT for Max Clark et. al. The FCL Tigers have 26 position players on their roster. They are really missing the second affiliate right now.

I think there are multiple possible answers, but it certainly wasn't to be a backup quarterback in 2023.

Sad day indeed. Jim is still a few years short of the man he always called 'the Great Al Kaline", who was already 14 yrs into his Tiger career when JP arrived. Al was with the Tigers over 65 yrs. This year was Jim's 56th. Still pretty amazing. I was never that big a fan of Paul Carey, so while no-one had topped Ernie individually, for me Dickerson and Price were the best radio broadcast pair since those few years when Ernie and George Kell worked together.

At least he played on one. And had a job that he presumably loved until he was 81. We should all be so fortunate.

So-so player and so-so broadcaster BUT thanks to longevity and decency he became a Tigers legend, a link between eras.

hooker was a great gamble in round 3. great season at tennessee. great arm. gets a year (or two) to sit behind goff and get better. if you thought we drafted hooker to back up goff this year, you were misinformed. he has a knee injury. if you want them to draft a qb in round 3 to be a serviceable backup this year, you are also nuts. the lions are entering a period where they should be a playoff team, you dont want a rookie backup in that situation. go get a serviceable vet (or a really serviceable vet like teddy). the only issue with hooker is his age. he's 25 already.

Lange is keeping that dream alive for Hess.

In theory I think he will be healthy enough to play by November. But with Goff on the roster, I don’t think even Stroud or Young would have played this year, outside of a backup role. Without pulling up statistics, it sure feels like QBs who have had a year to redshirt and learn an offense before getting hit by NFL defensive linemen have a better track record. Mahomes, Rodgers, Brady, and Hurts all come to mind as guys who were allowed to have a slow start to the league.

From what I have read it was WJR's decision. Jim Long (no relation) ran it and he wanted the change. Bo didn't push hard to fight it and felt as the boss of the Tigers it was his job to take the heat, so I guess give him credit for that. I think he was ambivalent over it and didn't appreciate the love people had for Ernie. Maybe being in his UM Football bubble he just didn't get it and didn't realize it would be such a big deal. This was before twitter and all of that so all we had to go by was what people like Joe Falls and Mitch Albom would talk about. I trust Joe more than Mitch, looking back. Joe wrote in his book that he was pretty sick when it happened so he wasn't writing any columns. But that gave him time to not react. He started to think about it some more and it didn't make sense to him. He sort or criticized Ernie a little bit. You sign a one year contract then go into their building and have a press conference and it starts to become a blood bath against your employer? In fact WJR wanted to get rid of Ernie immediately and Bo fought for one more year with a huge raise. Joe arranged a meeting with Bo and when he pulled up to his house he saw Mitch leaving... Bo double crossed him by meeting with Mitch first. This was also on the heels of the Save Tiger Stadium issue so public sentiment towards the Tigers and Bo was pretty negative.

To be a long term backup solution and a potential starter if Goff falters. You didn't think he was playing this year, did you? His injury only occurred 8 months ago.

I despised him and Ozzie during the mid-2000's but in hindsight I get it. Baseball needs characters like them.

That's how I felt most of my life and I still think politicians have very little effect on my life. However,as I have gotten older, I have grown to understand that they have an effect on other people's lives and some day I might be one of those people.

49.... but who's counting. Never understood the Ford Pardon controversy from the standpoint that he 'cut a deal' for a pardon in exchange for resignation. Ford didn't have to do any deal. Nixon had no leverage. Ford was going to be the next President regardless. That's not to address whether he should have done it. But I'll go ahead and blame the media for some of that. A month into his Presidency and every question Ford got was about Nixon. He had problems to address and too much of his time was spent answering those questions.

I kind of get both, but when you put guys out there who clearly aren't goin to get it done, I think you send a message that it's okay to lose. It's not. Have a bullpen day. Do something other than this thing which really hasn't worked all year. This team's management can be infuriating sometimes.

There is a musical director (MD) who has a mic only the musicians can hear and there is the voice built into the tracks which can be switched on and off so you nailed it. Depending on who is playing any Sunday, the MD either has to talk a lot or very little. We have iPads with our sheet music and an app to control our mix. I'll try to grab a picture next time I play to show you what it's like. For my mix, the click track, lead vocalists and MD are high up while everyone else is down. Fun fact: we get the songs on Tuesday or Wednesday and then have to learn our parts on our own. Sometimes they're songs we've played before so that's easy because I already have the notes on the ipad (and hopefully am assigned the same EG part - we have two EG parts which are always different from each other for layering). We show up at 8:30 Sunday morning, play the set once and then go live at 9:30 and again at 11:15. No rehearsal other than that. Know your parts, follow the click and the MD direction. Pack it up...go home. I'm not tooting my horn when I say this but not just anyone can do that.

Depends on the artist, there are holdouts and purists, but sure. Autotune is a digital tech, but splicing and overdubbing goes back as far as good studio tape machines (1970's). It was done, just not to such a fine grain and it was more work. What I wonder about is how much of the digital tech is used in a typical live show today. I'm sure no artist would want to admit it, and of course in small venues with little or light amplification you are going to hear a real voice in real time, but in stadium level shows like Swift, or even auditorium size venues where the volume is cranked to >110 db, no one will hear hear any of the actual voice going into the mic, only what the PA system puts out. Any mixing board has plenty of equalization and compression options but I wonder how far beyond that live tech goes now.
