Kim is risky but potentially a great fit - either at short or third. If they want to stick to shorter term deals they may be able to do that with Kim.2 points

I've listened to parts of Tim Snyder's Yale course on Ukrainian history, and one of the points that he comes back to often is that rulers move into and out of religions (and even languages FTM) when it becomes convenient for other reasons. No doubt the reformation had become very convenient for H VIII!1 point

LOL - C$1.3B over 6 yrs is small money even by Canadian standards. Another political announcement that is more PR than program. Our Canadian neighbors absorb their lessons from the South well.1 point

actually I would say that over the years, NPR has done more coverage of religion in the US than most national media.1 point

I bet Trump would like not only like to raise the debt ceiling, but get rid of it which would make it easier for him to do whatever he wants. The DOGE crap commission is not about efficiency and lowering debt, but stealing money and punishing opponents.1 point

I've been thinking about the onside kick against Buffalo, and I'm wondering what the rules are? It has to travel 10 yards, but what if you kick it high and deep and have a speedster like Gibbs or Williams chase it down? Is there a rule on how deep you can kick it?1 point

It's a little messier than that. Just because he's claimed doesn't mean he would sign with a team. He's 38, and his release is with the intent to sign with a contender. Who knows how liberal his definition of contender is though. I'm guessing he would have a list of 3-7 teams that he says "I'll go here," but it's not as if he's going to play for the Jaguars or Raiders if they are who claim him. If the Packers or Rams are not on his shortlist of teams he'll play for, it would be an exercise in futility to claim him just to prevent him from signing with the Lions, because he would have to take a spot on your 53, despite refusing to sign/play for you. That said, it would probably take some other contenders passing on him for him to reach the Lions, given they have one of the best records in the league.1 point

whether he believes is Tork or not, Harris needs to acquire a decent alternative to protect against Tork flopping again. right now there is no back up 1b in detroit or toledo. if that player is Yandy Diaz or Goldschmidt, i think that tells us what Harris thinks of Tork1 point

Assumptions are pretty simple. Your closing disclosure will state if it is assumable. If it is, it's basically like applying for a new loan. You'll need to be approved with credit and DTI, and there's still typical closing. Lenders usually charge a fee of $250. The lender has no incentive not to do it as long as the person assuming the loan is qualified. When rates were low, assumptions were still done. It was usually in cases of divorce where one spouse was awarded the house. Less common was death of the borrower and a survivor assumed the loan.1 point

Hinch made an appearance on MLB the other night and his comments on Javy were very pointedly in two separate parts: 'Have to get him healthy' and 'Have to get him in the strike zone', not "Have to get him healthy so he will be back in the strike zone'. I would read that say that Hinch is not really expecting that the hip repair is the fix to Javy's problems with the bat.1 point

Don’t much know either way, but it did strike me when Harris was quoted at the Winter Meetings as basically laying down the gauntlet when he said, basically, the performance has to get better and it’s not just offensive performance, it’s defensive performance, too. That reads to me as though they checked in with Tork before the winter meetings and were not satisfied by what they saw. I think if he were hitting all their check boxes along the way, they would have said something more like, Tork is making some improvements, there’s a long way to go, but we like what we see. Something more like that. Unless he did say that and I missed it, but I don’t believe so. But what was reported comes off as a public calling out. To me, this is the most interesting storyline of the winter. I’l be interested to see whether any more is said and, just as importantly, how it’s said.1 point

I wonder what Torkelson’s off-season “training” interventions are like. Is it more mental than mechanical? If they can turn him from being like David Webb into Jason Bourne, I would be pretty much OK with that.1 point

Good stuff. Too bad these "professional" announcers can't pronounce Rasmussen's name. What a quick shot he made, right off the face off.1 point

Flyers let the Wings get a 3 on zero rush, not sure I've seen that one in a while lol. Veleno buried it from Fischer on that play to make it 4-2. DeBrincat from Kane made it 2-1 before Philly tied it. Then Rasmussen scored off a faceoff win by Compher to make it 3-2. Wings have twice as many shots as the Flyers, 18-9 with a minute left in the second1 point

I don't know if it's preferable, but pitchers are unpredictable. Pitchers decline physically just as fast as position players, but I think certain pitchers can compensate for loss of physical tools with wisdom and experience better than a hitter.1 point

State media? I can’t believe you are bending a knee. just kidding, for real. My Dad is on hospice and I am going to be staying with him tonight. He is a huge Fox News junkie. He will be up then and I will tell him I know this guy! It really will make him smile.1 point

Agree—can understand wanting to avoid the commute, but don’t base it on the offseason. We still have a foundation of a playoff team that was largely populated by rookies, who should only get better. And it’s not like the rest of the AL has improved much (yet). Most of the free agents and trade targets are still out there.1 point

With the current mess it will take time to fix that is for sure. I don’t think anybody thought he was going to show up with a magic wand. Just like Biden he will have four years to figure it out. How is the inflation reduction act working out?1 point
