I am looking forward to a screaming headline mentioning SCOTT HARRIS and 3-WAY together to see how adroitly it’s handled given the fact that proofreading is a lost art in journalism.3 points

I haven’t watched any interviews, but when I read where Harris said “no one is untouchable“ and that he’s willing to “listen” this means the organization is not desperate, that they’re not panicking, and they will not be easy prey and it’s going to take quite a bit to pry anything loose of substance from the club. It’s his way of dealing from strength instead of weakness regardless of optics. Of course I’m an inveterate optimist and I like reading the most positive intent into things.2 points

I think it does. The idiots on twitter who listen to too much radio make dismissive comments beyond his performance. “Scotty boy”. “Haircut”. Stuff like that. They thjnk he’s weak and timid. Most of them are overweight pretend jocks who think they are teasing the nerd in high school.2 points

Purely off of the awood video it looks like Rasmussen and Soderblom actually had some good moments, winning puck battles and cycling in the offensive zone. I like that when Sherwood hit Raymond in the head at least a couple Wings approached him and then JVR actually skated hard and threw a big check. The Wings have to show some sort of fight.2 points

They have no starting pitching signed beyond 2026 and nothing in the high minors. It's both a short and long term need. I don't get how waiver claims and minor league signings is the way to go. I don't see any swing and miss bullpen guys in the minors either. Just a strange way to build a major league team. They just roster hoard and think that they will win on the margins. The 'on the margins' moves like short term pitching contracts have been epic wastes of money..I just don't get it.2 points

It's only a shame for the sake of your headline that it's unlikely the team from Minnesota will be involved....2 points

do it like they do in hockey. very open and transparent with what teams need to get in. the formula is known before the season starts and teams know what they need to do.2 points

I just started a rumor that Eric Ebron was in Allen Park and is planning a comeback.1 point

Yeah, I know from my own experience that lots of rank-and-file UAW are right wing. My dad’s like yours, though. Lots of “MAGA-coded” characteristics but he has never voted for Trump or any Republican that I know of. And, lo and behold, he doesn’t watch Fox News or listen to RW radio. He’s also a Vietnam vet with decidedly non-warm-‘n’-fuzzy memories of his service, which may factor into things although I couldn’t tell you that for certain.1 point

Haven't seen any rumors about Tigers making an offer except for one Skubal turned down in 2024 I believe.1 point

The Eagles OL is not the problem. Hurts had all day. He just missed. A lot. He’s maybe not a great pocket passing QB. With a dominate run game and defense he can hit his first read. Anything else he seems lost.1 point

It would hurt our negotiating position for him to be so open at this point.1 point

3 years $70 mil for Edwin Diaz is absurd. That contract is going to suck for them, not that they care.1 point

I saw it and agree, disappointing. He doesn't have to committed to anything, but just one time say something like "we love Skubal and certainly want to have him.be a Tiger for life. He has options and has an agent who tends to go with the highest bidder. We intend to try." Instead we get the same statements, which to me point to Skubal being gone. Gibson was good. Canucks had a ton of point blank attempts, not necessary all grade A but still otherwise undefended and he managed them all. He let some rebounds get away but he had some luck with that not hurting him. Canucks outplayed the Wings over more than half the game but the Wings executed a couple of very slick plays for their scores. Always good to get a win in the Pacific time zone, but the Wing's inability to clear their own zone against a not very good offensive team was a depressing thing to watch.1 point
-
The only thing I would say about Gibson's game yesterday is that... I hope he goes on a nice long streak for the next 4 months with games just like it. Not all shutouts of course. But give this team a chance in each game...1 point

This isn’t the first time. Remember when the Eagles collapsed in 2023? Hurts is ****ting the bed without Lane Johnson and a dominant run game. When do the narratives start?1 point
-
The Eagles have a championship defense. They have weapons everywhere on offense. Their problem is Jalen Hurts has forgotten how to play Quarterback. This is the defending Super Bowl MVP and he’s been lost the last 5 weeks.1 point

My father is white, male, older boomer, high school education, factory worker, listens to country music, lives in Macomb County, and hates Trump and never voted Republican. He fits the stereotype of a MAGA voter to a tee. The one exception is he doesn’t watch Fox News.1 point

One thing about the Detroit area is that you never know what is going on from the exterior. I find this to be more the case than other metros i visit. Some very MAGA looking types who have family genetic disposition to the democrat party and some very left-coded looking people who seem to have fallen for the cult.1 point

If Lane Kiffin has taught us anything, it's that loyalty can be bought by the next highest bidder. The right dollar amount makes anyone go anywhere. Honor is as high as the last number on the check.1 point

I have to assume Harris thinks he can just flip the switch on his drafts - go pitching heavy and have Fetter & Co. turn them into several Cy Young candidates in 6 months. Hard to see what other plan is in place.1 point

1934, actually... and, this is going to ruffle a few feathers, the Lions didn't invent Football on Turkey Day. They weren't even the first NFL team to do it. What made the Lions effort unique were two things: First was the fact that Lions owner George Richards also owned WJR, which was part of the Blue Network (which became ABC) and the Lions game was broadcast nationwide on the radio. And of course the second thing was that the Lions would go on to do it (almost) every year after. (They didn't play in T-Day during WWII.) So the Lions didn't invent it, but they were the ones who made it wildly popular and cemented it as a NFL tradition. Lots of the info here was pulled from the wikipedia article on NFL on Thanksgiving Day if you want to read more. Some numbers (also pulled from there): The Lions have played 85 T-Day games. Second closest is of course the Cowboys with 58. The Bears and Packers are tied for 3rd place with 38. Most wins also goes to the Lions with 38 wins. With them also having 46 loses and 2 ties that's a sad .452 WPct. Second place is unsurprisingly the Cowboys with 35 wins. The Arizona Cardinals have the 5th most T-Day games as they used to host them quite regularly in the past in their various stops around the country. As the Chicago Cards they hosted 1922, '24, '33-'35, and '50. As the St. Louis Cards they hosted on '75 and '77.1 point

“College Boy” is just a way of making fun of people who disparage education as a mark of inauthenticity although they would scratch their heads at the use of the term “inauthenticity” and utter resentful banalities about “the wisdom of the common man” being slandered. They’re the same people who are against the practice of the term “doctor“ being used for anyone except a male MD.1 point

Ugh...why are people in denial of actual facts? The facts speak for themselves...without Skubal the last 2 seasons, the Tigers were barely a .500 team. No playoffs. That's not being negative, it's an actual fact. Will they still try to win? Yes, but without Skubal, they're not nearly as good. Replace him with a Toledo arm or a reject from some bottom feeding team? Yeah, good luck with that.1 point

If a big trade is going to work, I think it has to be multiple teams - like the Ganderson/Scherzer deal. That's how you can square the circle between the Tigers wanting ML players or at least ML ready players back but the shoppers who are contenders who want a Carpenter or Mize or Greene or even Skubal want to offer prospects back. But engineering a 3 way trade is going to be quite the leap from a guy who has hardly dipped his toes into serious trade waters since he's been here.1 point

good Rosenthal article about The Skubal Decision in the Athletic. Basically, if you keep Skubal, get better now. If the Detroit Tigers want to keep Tarik Skubal, president of baseball operations Scott Harris can’t stay in his preferred risk-averse mode...No one is suggesting he do anything reckless and make a free-agent splurge that could set back the franchise years if it goes awry. But if the Tigers keep Skubal – and they should, seeing as how rare opportunities are to win a World Series – it’s time for Harris to get uncomfortable.1 point

He was released at his request so he could play for a playoff team. He definitely isn’t Branch or Joseph, but he does have a decent career.1 point

I would support this as long as they’re going to pretend like this is still college football and not have the Big Ten and SEC leave everyone in the dust. All nine conference champions (not including the two-team PAC-12 or Notre Dame) get an auto-bid. Plus 11 at-large teams, as determined by a computer. All teams are ranked #1-20 based on the computer. First round is just #14 vs. #20, #15 vs. #19, #16 vs. #19, and #17 vs. #18. Which will be mostly MAC and CUSA champions against lesser at-large teams. Re-seed after every round.1 point

alabama also had better wins than notre dame. if notre dame wants to make it to the playoff with a 2 loss record, they can join a real conference. i dont have sympathy for notre dame and their attitude. that said, i think each of the teams involved - alabama, notre dame, miami, and byu - all had a case. what is odd and what gives notre dame a bit of a legit grievance is they were ranked higher than miami and then got jumped for no apparent reason. and notre dame was very impressive down the stretch -albeit against "lesser" competition - than bama or miami or byu.1 point

My recent thought has been that signing Skubal to a long-term deal would go a long way toward signaling to the market that we are serious about contending, which would make us a more attractive destination. If we let Skubal walk next year, that may not hurt our position with free agents all that much, depending in large part how this season goes and what our roster looks like next winter. If we trade Skubal for minor leaguers this winter, however, I believe that would be an unmitigated disaster in terms of our ability to attract top talent to the team, because that would likely be seen as an active move toward pulling back on competing this season after making the playoffs the past two seasons. IOW, it would look like we're going into another rebuild. Fair or not, I do believe that would be the perception.1 point

Wrong! With Jobe, McGonigle, Anderson, Clark, Olson, Melton, Bicerno, Hamm, Green, Torkelson, Dingler, free agent signings, and whatever prospects we get for Skubal (if he is traded) we will NOT go backwards!!! One more year only for Skubal and a prospect in 2030 is malpractice IMO and is more than likely what we are going to get.1 point
