  3. as someone who has wanted Harris to do (a lot) more, IMO this is wrong. They are what they are: Baez, McKinstry, Jones are not going to outperform 2025 numbers; same for Dingler Low ceiling, not much more there: Meadows, Wenceel, Rogers, Sweeney but With a little health luck, could see big improvements: Torres, Carp, Vierling Still have another gear, which they may or may not find: Tork, Greene, Keith Future Allstars: McGonigle, Clark Lots of other young bats: Valencia, Lee, Anderson, Cruz, Briceno, Liranzo

  4. Baserunning an F? After all the stories written all year about their historic baserunning achievements and then ending up with the high percentage of extra bases taken by a wide margin? It’s obvious he didn’t watch the team. That’s the only data point I need to dismiss the guy. If he gets something that basic and well-known wrong, how can you trust anything else he says?

  6. and Trump had no part in it. Both can can be true and are. This isn't that complex. When covid hit everyone thought the world was coming to an end and both the Federal gov and the Federal Reserve (but mostly the Federal Reserve) dumped a ton of dollars into the economy to tty to keep it afloat - and they overshot. That pig had to pass through the Python. By the time Trump was elected it was largely already through. Read some Milton Freedman. Inflation is at least 90% a monetary policy phenomenon. Presidents have very little to do with it. The national debt fuels it to some degree (and Trump has made that way worse) but that is still small potatoes to what the Fed reserve does. The real influence a Pres has is who he nominates for the Fed board. That's the funny part. Trump put Powell on the FR, then consistently hated what he did even though Powell has largely saved his ass.

  7. and part of this is that we are in what John LeCarre would have called a 'silly season'. There used to be some level of separation between the office and then person or the politics. Like the line from Band of Brothers - "you salute the rank, not the man". But the problem is that is a two way street. When Presidents refrained from using the ceremonial aspects of the office for personal political ends, then they could expect people to respect the office irrespective of the occupant. But when the occupant doesn't respect the office or the institutions represented, then that level of respect from the public is likely to be withheld. But a lot of people are still sort of lost in transition - they may know full well Trump is jerk (even if they do vote GOP for tax purposes) but still think it's too rude to refuse the President - and of course a range of views on both sides around that. Trump is obviously a much more uniformly negative figure for young independent women, so the difference in the response of the men's and women's team is not surprising.

  13. People actually bet on spring training games. See, to me that is an absolute indication that you have a gambling addiction. Betting on games where the teams don't even care if they win or lose.

  19. Exactly (agree with everything except the little bro swipe, lol). The Damien Cox column in the Toronto Star about Matthews was one of the lamest things I’ve ever read. Look, the loss stung, and in a bout of self-flagellation I’ve watched a lot of the partying and the WH stuff, more as a fuel to get pumped for the 2030 rematch. Losing big games is supposed to suck, that’s what makes winning big games so fun. The over the top reactions by some of my countrymen, especially in the media, has been downright embarrassing. https://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/auston-matthews-made-his-choice-seemingly-putting-trump-ahead-of-the-leafs/article_5f28fc48-2724-4545-9e3e-d5c122ab7584.html

  21. This bubble is a bit different from the dot com bubble IMO. The dot com bubble was almost exclusively funded by debt. Nobody was making money back then and some of the transactions were just stupid. Mark Cuban selling broadcast.com for $5 billion and Yahoo did absolutely nothing with it. That bubble burned hot and fast. The AI bubble does have some debt funded ventures. But a lot of the big players are companies like Google, MSFT, Amazon, even Grok is now funded by profits from SpaceX, or mostly from Starlink if we're being honest. None of those companies make a profit directly on AI. But they all make dump trucks full of money in other areas. That money didn't exist in the dot com bubble era. So this one has a lot more sustainability and won't burn out as fast.

  26. Look at Fauci when he tried to guide Trump on how to fight a novel pandemic...Maga turned on him when Trump told them to. Look at Pence, who did his best to save democracy...Maga turned on him when Dinald told them to. The bottom line is Trump has zero loyalty to people in his orbit who try to help him or our country. Either lie for Trump or you're dead to him.

  28. I'm not even sure they "have" opinions like we do. They probably give it very little thought and just go about how believing how they were raised but it's very surface level. Especially those in team sports where they play a lot of games. They're not thinking about this stuff. Unless one of the team USA players comes out explicitly in support of the president and the policies I'm going to assume they are just along for the ride of enjoying olympic gold until they have to go back to their teams this week.

  29. It wasn't just the change in swing, he was a lot more aggressive last year. His swing% went up 8.3%. His in zone swing% went 7.3%, his chase rate went up 8.1%, his 1st pitch swing% went up 10.9%, and his meatball swing% went up 10.8%. After 2024 I thought the next step for Riley would be to be more aggressive in the zone. If he can find a way to maintain his in zone aggressiveness while returning back to his old chase rate he could make a big jump.

  34. You don't park your humanity at the door when you become an elected official either. It doesn't serve anyone's citizens to take joy in the discomfiture or others. The de-humanization is simply the precondition to excuse acting in ways that would otherwise be morally unacceptable - own it for what it is.

The can wear their crosses and praise Jesus after winning a sporting event and pretend all is good and that makes them morally superior. It doesn’t. It’s hypocritical bull**** . All while “Bench pressing” 315 pounds allegedly. Trump supporters today are pathetic excuses for human beings. Phony Christians.

  42. Why bother? He'd just be replaced by another red hat athlete. Most professional athletes, especially the white American ones, are ardent red hats. If you want to be a fan of big-time sports, you can't allow yourself to set a bar of no MAGA ever for your teams because you can't ever have that. Either disassociate the player from his ideology, or give up following big-time sports. Simple as that. You're rooting for the player, not the person. Difference.
