I gotta be real, Holmes' comments about "serious financial constraints" concern me as to how aggressive he wants to be to try and do everything he can to win a Super Bowl now. The Les Snead approach of "screw future years" is real appealing given that the Rams both won a Super Bowl and have since bounced back to being competitive in a short time frame. The goal of this franchise and any organization should be to build a Super Bowl winning team. The goal is not be a good/very good competitive team for X-number of years and maintain cap flexibility. I'm not saying we need to be Mickey Loomis and the Saints and be reckless with our salary cap. But a more aggressive approach, with more salary restructuring and a more concerted free agency plan, is what I think many of us wanted to see. It doesn't mean you blow your wad on every high dollar player out there. But it does mean you are in on players like Braden Smith, Cam Jordan, AJ Epenesa, etc. that they weren't after this offseason. What Lions fan that has suffered through years of misery wouldn't trade a few down years, where we are in tighter cap constraints, for one Super Bowl win/appearance?1 point

Out of the pool of 4 positions Colt can play - 1b,2b, 3b, DH, it's at least 50/50 one player at those positions will be down at any point in the season to an injury or slump. Or you just give 6 guys 500 AB instead of 5 guys 600 AB. Finding AB for one extra player isn't much of a struggle in 26 man roster. Now if McKinstry were to hit so well again that they wanted to get him another 450 AB, then it can start getting a little crowded.1 point

I’d prefer to see Javy and Meadows platoon CF, Keith at 3B and McG at SS. Vierling the typical RF and Carpenter the typical DH. (Or rotate it and let Riley be the DH every few days) Then you can mix it up a bit and have McKinstry at 3B, Carpenter in RF and Keith DH against back of the rotation RHPs. With McGonigles skill set, you play him every day or why bother having him on the roster.1 point

I was hanging out in the lobby at the Comerica Park offices with Max, his family, and girlfirend. It was right after the draft and he came up to sign his deal. I didn't bother them but it's weird not thinking you are that old and seeing his parents and they're about my age. I still think I have a shot.1 point

Weird situation is that I actually like how the Wings have played the past four games but their playoff position has never been worse. I've gone from "how high can the Wings be seeded" to "can they hang onto home ice for the 1st round" to "can they hang onto a playoff spot" to "do they have enough time with Copp and Larkin to outplay and outpoint a couple of teams for a spot".1 point

He played in 20 spring games for the Tigers and two games against the Dominican Republic national team and played generally crisp defense. They didn’t send him to play in the spring breakout games for minor league prospects. I wouldn’t be surprised if he played more games than a lot of the regulars. The fan base is profoundly excited about him and he is only going to get better by facing major league competition not minor league competition. Not putting him on the 26-man roster at this point would be pretty much an admission that the club really doesn’t believe in its philosophy. If he doesn’t make the team, I will be so pissed I’ll go on a six-state crime spree a robbin’ and a shootin’ and dying in a hail of bullets as a way of expressing my dissatisfaction.1 point

Great win against a team we should have lost to without Cade and Stew. Say what you will about the Laker being frauds as contenders - they certainly are - but they're still a playoff team that should have beaten us without Cade. Clutch performance by Jenkins, who seems to have found his groove again now that he's starting. I only hope it continues when Cade comes back and he goes back to being a backup. The Jenkins we've seen these last few games would be huge off the bench in the playoffs.1 point

I was messing around with AI getting some ideas for redoing my basement. I was pitching several ideas, and it finally responded with this: My honest take This is the first option you’ve mentioned that feels genuinely smart. I'm pretty certain I was just insulted by AI.1 point

They won 9 in a row with some of those wins against good teams and you literally said it was a rough matchup earlier in the thread. Sure they're probably overrated but I don't know why the Pistons don't get credit for beating them without two of their best players, nobody was saying that the Pistons "should" have won this game. In fact, a lot of people were writing the Pistons obituary the moment the Cade injury news came out and they're showing that they're a lot more than just Cade.1 point

I haven't really checked the stats. But it seems like Detroit has been giving up a lot of offensive rebounds lately.1 point

I can see how the Lakers have won 9 in a row. Phantom fouls on the Pistons and missed calls against the Lakers. You can't lose a challenge because then every single call will go against us with no recourse.1 point

Can you imagine the outcry from the right if department heads from the Obama, Biden or even the Clinton Administrations had posted stuff like this on line. Our country is now being run by guys (mostly) who are still into video games they played when they were teenagers... https://bsky.app/profile/sarahposner.bsky.social/post/3mhqiinicrc2j1 point

Good, well run teams still care about defense. It's no coincidence that the four top ranked defenses are OKC, Detroit, San Antonio, and Boston.1 point
