I'll take my chances with a month or Torkelson over a month of a Castro.3 points

I'm sure he would agree with you on the staying home part. He is not a lawless thug. Those would be the people who attacked him and tried to kill him. If anything he is the victim. If the situation was being managed by the police and Natonal Guard where were they when he was attacked. This situation is why so many people are armed in public. When a crime is being committed the victims have to fend for themselves any way they can. After the crime is when the police usually show up.2 points

Mickey Lolich was a mans man...doughnuts by day and strikeouts by night.2 points

at the immediate moment of the shootings maybe, but what was he doing there in the 1st place if not attempting to project law enforcement as a civilian - which is the common working definition of a vigilante? Whether he was there as a vigilante and whether he killed someone in self defense (or not) are separate questions.2 points

Barring any major setbacks whether it be injuries or performance based(like they look totally overmatched in Spring Training) I think Greene and Tork will both be up on Opening Day. I'm sure the rules about call up time and getting that extra year of control will change in the new CBA but even if they don't I think it would still be in the Tigers best interest to have them on the Opening Day roster. The reason being is that the Tigers are in a position where they are going to need every win they can get if they want to make the playoffs and delaying Greene and Tork's call up by a month may give them an extra year of control but could cost them a win or 2 and those wins may end up costing them a playoff spot.2 points

Batting average, like ERA for pitchers, is a poor tool for evaluation, especially for small samples like a partial season.1 point

So initially I said I'd lower the rent for every win over Ohio State. Then he came back to me and renegotiated a new deal at the start of last season and I agreed to lower the rent for every win over Mel Tucker. I even offered him cash back for every win over a top 10 opponent and double the money back for every win when he's the underdog. So far I've been keeping all the money I offered up.1 point

Detroit ranks 47...ahead of Phoenix, Tampa, Los Angeles, miami. But for comapirson sake the averge pay in Detroit is 22K in NYC, 14th on the list, its 28K. I can tell you 28K gets you homeless in NYC and 22K in detroit can at least get you something. I say this just to say measure markets by wealth is fool-hearty because big cities are gonna drive down the cost for a host of reasons. It's about TV sets and detroit ranks 14th.1 point

Finally, I can breath a huge sigh of relief with this news: If there was any concern that Cleveland would not be able to take the next steps with its historic name change, all of that worry can now be put to rest. The team announced Tuesday morning that the lawsuit filed by the local Guardians roller derby team over use of the name “Guardians” had been resolved, with both organizations permitted to continue using the name. 🥵 close call…1 point

Where i work here in Michigan my company is preparing for the mandatory masks for the not vaccinated rule to potentially go in affect next month. So the 2 HR ladies were going over the memo to be posted with about 20 salaried employees. As they were going over the memo they referred to Whitmer as Governor Whitless, and suggested she is going beyond the federal regulations because she expects to lose reelection and wants to get appointed to the Biden cabinet. I said "maybe she is trying to save lives?" From there the whole thing turned into a shouting match and the meeting was cut short. The Trumpies were shouting "the good states aren't doing this !" And calling Whitmer a political pawn of the president. All because they have to wear a mask for a while. It's embarrassing.1 point

Please don't say "it's the same law here". Your gun law is unlike any other country in the world and it is incomprehensible to everyone who lives anywhere else. If you walk down a street here with a loaded weapon, that's the best way to get shot by a cop. So my advice would be to never, ever try to look for similarities between US gun laws and those of other countries, because there isn't even a starting point.1 point

I'd be happy if he had stayed the fuck home and let the police handle any disturbances.1 point

The people and party that put the USA last are currently in office in DC and their action prove my statement.1 point

Going hunting has nothing to do with an open carry law that allows a moron to walk into a disturbance with a semi-automatic rifle. Nothing. There is no comparison to be made there.1 point

No bother at all, budd. Things can be dicey anywhere people congregate. It's no worse in downtown Chicago than downtown Detroit or downtown just about anywhere. I don't think there's any particular need to be hypervigilant. A reasonable awareness of your surroundings, same as at a game or a festival or the mall, is almost always enough.1 point

I can see Haase getting some playing time in spring training at first base. He and Miggy can handle first until Torkelson is called up. I wouldn't give up a year of control over our top two prospects.1 point

michigan is 9-1 and ranked 6th in the country. texas is 4-5, has lost 5 straight, and just lost at home to kansas for the first time in 100 years. i think you need to relax a bit.1 point

Mickey Lolich in 1971 - 376 innings, 45 starts, 29 complete games and he was a strikeout guy too. That's insane. Followed that year up with 327, 308, 308. Even at 35, after those 300+ years, he pitched 192 innings and had an ERA of 3.22 Then in 1976 Mark Fidrych had 24 complete games, 3 of them going 11 innings and they broke him.1 point

Whether or not that was useful, what is your criteria for excluding Rittenhouse's activity from the common definition of 'vigilante'? i.e. "Self-appointed law enforcer"1 point

Cracks me up that apart from Boys Are Back In Town, arguably the best-known song of the band from Ireland is their cover version of a song about a CKLW DJ.1 point

Receiver not doing Stafford any favors there. I'm over my breakup with Stafford. I'm kind of rooting for the Rams to miss the playoffs. I want what's best for the Lions.1 point

Funny but this year I have noticed at Tiger games it seems like a bit of a rougher crowd hanging around. Some new places opened up over the last few years. Just a scene of fast cars, loud club music, people waiting to get in and milling around the sidewalks. And greektown is turning into a place you don’t want to go past 9 pm. For my whole life until about 8 years ago that was pretty much the only place in the city you could go to. Every weekend there’s something that goes down.1 point

Id 3rd, 4th or whatever that feeling. In an ideal world they'd maybe pick someone up from that 2nd/3rd tier of free agents that lingers on the market and some wily peralta eque reclamation project. Regardless, I think they need 2 more starting arms and i more expect they'll get just get 2 reclamation projects to fill the need.1 point

But Gracia, Brieske, Olsen and Wentz are guys you could call up on during the season when you need them, maybe not guys you expect to be in the rotation. I mean, to me, they have to sign another veteran arm, the one year "prove your worth" type of deal. If we think we are going to avoid some sort of long term injury with all 3 of the young guns, we're being a bit naive. TJ surgeries are starting to become more of the norm these days. I wonder if anyone is doing a comprehensive study to find out why there are more pitching injuries with pitchers throwing fewer innings than in the past. A lot of speculation why, but has there been any study? Dr. James Andrews has become more well-known than most of the players in the league1 point

My feeling is a team is not hurt by signing good players to big contracts. They get hurt when they sign the wrong players.1 point

There were some issues with the migration and the change in nameservers... I'm still trying to resolve all of that with my hosting company to make sure things are correctly setup. It is quite possible that the issue you are experiencing is related to that, so I apologize. I hope to get an all clear later today that everything is working fine, so if you still have the issue after that, we'll begin to troubleshoot it. Your phone and computer are probably pulling the site from different places, so one may have the correct nameservers and the other may not.1 point

I approve of this signing. It sounds like just about everyone else does too.1 point
